I'm curious about this type of activity and how other nudists view it.

The idea of the WNBR (for those of you not familiar with it) is to hop on a bike in a major city on a specific day and ride around a pre-determined route. This is done in the form of a protest for a variety of issues, from nudist rights to usage of natural resources (oil, coal, etc.). Their website (Google "world naked bike ride) can provide further details if you require more information.

My question is this:
Do you think that this type of activity breaks down barriers for the everyday nudist?

I am lumping this (wnbr) in with things like the Bare to Breakers in San Francisco every year.

These folks are taking a risk to be nude in public with police foreknowledge of the event. Sometimes they are arrested for their participation, sometimes they are not. Their reasoning appears to be "The more nude people that are seen by textiles, the less of an issue it is."

I admire their willingess to face potential criminal charges in in order to live the way they wish to live, but I'm not sure if it actually promotes a nude lifestyle, as much as a 'thrill' of being naked in public.

Just curious. Thanks for your time.

Nobility is not a birthright, it is defined by one's actions.

The ride was a lot of fun. Saw and heard many interesting things. It seems some of these rental bikes have a 2 hr limit. As a result many folks swapped out their bikes durring the ride. Not everyday you see a naked guy using an AMX gold card. One spectator commented that he was surprised how many of the young guys weren't circumcised. As always the kids enjoyed the show. While a few parents shielded their kids most did not. A friend found this https://www.flickr.com/photos/24894360@N03/37583804990/

I've been involved in the Boston ride for years. Each year has been a wonderful experience. It has opened dialog with younger people about nude activities and seems to get mostly positive response from the city overall.

Well, I finally did a nude ride. The Philly Naked Bike ride is a blast. I don't know if anyone has a total number of riders but, at least a thousand. Only managed a little of the ride on my bike. Hit something between where I parked my car and the start of the ride that gave my rear wheel a slight wobble. Add my heart issues, weight, etc. I ended up in the pickup. Great view esp the biggining when I had a female with me. She got off quite early. https://www.flickr.com/photos/pixelfocusmedia/37160146055/in/pool-pnbr2017/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG9MUi-PGFY
I'm the last 15 secs in the video. While it is 13 mins long,it's worth a look. FYI- it seems most of the female riders are near the end. Start at 10:00 if you don't have time for the entire video.

The Philly ride is August 25, 2012. I think they had over 1,000 riders last year. Looks like I should be able to go.

You might want to do a search about recent the LA ride http://www.flickr.com/photos/ronslog/sets/72157630166011226/ or the NYC ride or the Philly ride (August 26, I think) or the chicago ride. Never mind LOTS of places around the world.

I think the WNBR would be able to be done in almost every city if the race raised money only for local business or charity so participants could ride bikes on a 5 or 10 mile stretch of the city nude by paying a entry fee of $20 and 100% of that fee goes to local food bank etc. Just no reason to call it the WNBR when its only done in a few places.

Great ride! Smaller group (15?) but, mostly nudists wearing very little. Photogs enjoyed two young women painting each other breasts before the ride. I was interviewed by a woman from the Washington Post. I guess I should pickup a copy in the morning.

The ride is "Bare as you dare". Many of the riders are enviro types. Last year was HOT. Most of the guys went shirtless but, still wore shorts. Of the 42 riders maybe 15 were wearing a bikini or less including a young black couple. With a helmet and shades you are hard to recognize anyway.

We should encourage even people who don't plan to ride nude to join the ride to show support!

And the WNBR is always a great opportunity for signage and slogans:

  • Skin. Perfectly Natural Bike-wear.
  • Ban nudity in Congress - otherwise it's a 9th Amendment right!
  • Take a break from fabric. Your skin will thank you!
  • Just getting some VITAMIN nuDe
  • Enjoy natural air-con. Bike nude!
  • Naturist cyclists are naturally cool!
  • We're not just naked, we're aerodynamic!
  • Rediscover your inner child. Bike in the buff!
  • Sometimes I bike naked. But I always vote!
  • Tour de Eden 2009
  • After this bike ride, we're going skinny-dipping!

balto bob hope you have a great bike ride in dc this week
Balto Bob Posted - 06/10/2009 : 05:01:51 AM
The DC ride is this Saturday. Roger spent last week contacting the alphabet soup the regulates events in our nations capital. NPS, MPD, DC Parks and ACLU for starters. We are supposed to meet at Franklin Park (13th and K St) at 3 PM.
http://wiki.worldnakedbikeride.org/ Washington,DC is at the bottom of the list of rides. A couple good pics from last year.
www.ipernity.com/doc/elvertbarnes/album/98943 has 60 photos that Elvert didn't post on flickr. You should find a link to the youtube of last years White House Rally. You will need to register with flickr that you are over 18. I'm on dialup so youtube is sort of useless to me.
I bought a green bannapeelz to match my bike seat.

The guy who spent much time and effort getting the permits for the DC ride www.wnbr-dc.org has a son (USMC) who has served in both Iraq and Afganistan. The ride is 1 hour start to finish, most of the time we kept moving. The big stop is in front of the White House in an area set up for protesters. While a lot of people saw us, we certainly didn't cause any disruption. It was a wonderful experience for me. We waved and spoke to people along the route, most seemed to enjoy the show. I hope to do it again. We had about 10 nudists and 30 textiles. I didn't ask why people joined the ride. While, none of us were totally nude, the tiny little pouch I wore left little doubt what was under it. This is still the USA and I'm glad to enjoy what freedoms they still allow. Next year who knows.
