Posted - 07/03/2008 : 7:30:22 PM It strikes me more and more as extremely sad that the U.S. is hung up on simple nudity to such a strong degree.
Two nights ago in Chicago, I watched the evening news and witnessed a women die as she waited for treatment in a hospital emergency room...the news show even edited the security video and pointed out what was happening as this poor woman DIED. The point of the story was that she was in the hospital waiting room for an hour AFTER she died and no one did anything. That's horrible in itself, but why did they have to SHOW her dying? I find that incredibly insensitive, offensive, and many other strong negative emotions. But the thing that surprises me the most is that there has been NO PUBLIC OUTRAGE WHATSOEVER about that being presented during an evening news show.
Are we as American's so desensitised to evil that we expect it now? Even during 'Family hours'? When was the last evening news program shown that didn't at least mention a murder. If they were lucky(?!) enough, we were shown a covered body or at the very least the bullet casings as they lay on the ground.
The more time I spend living as a nudist, the more I am honestly confused as to why we/they/people in general have such an appetite (or worse, indifference) for horror than simple acceptance of their own body.
The body is an amazing machine. It can renew itself, it can adapt to ALMOST every climate on the earth with minimal changes (ex: clothing), and when coupled with the opposite sex it can CREATE a new body. Show me any invention that we've created since time began that has the same amazing capability as our body. The human body is incredible.
My point is that the human body is beautiful and positive while mayhem is ugly and negative. How can the general public feel so strongly against the human body and feel indifferent to such powerful negativity?
Its...very sad and frustrating and...and...ugh.

Posted - 08/26/2008 : 6:00:36 PM Calbob, I agree, ignoring mayhem isn't the answer. One of the points I was trying to make was simply the furor that people display over nudity, and the indifference they display to the mayhem. IMO, the reactions way out of balance, with mayhem clearly in the lead. I would expect outrage from the victim's families or friends when they're murdered. But that's a relatively small circle. Battleboro, VT had a NATION taking sides, but you mostly heard from the anti-nudity side, there was only a limited amount of press regarding the postive side of nudity.
Battleboro was the last instance I've heard of public nudity and it did continue on for several months. But every single night, I still hear the mayhem.
Nobility is not a birthright, it is defined by one's actions. |

Posted - 08/26/2008 : 5:05:39 PM I worked in the TV business for over 40 years, and although I wasn't in the news department, I had plenty of contact with them. Some stations do positive stories, but ignoring murders and other mayhem isn't at all realistic. If there was a gang shooting in or near your neighborhood, wouldn't you want to know about it? As for positive stories about nudism, we've had many good ones, as Cheri can tell you, but we do have to be careful about who we cooperate with. I've often advised, "interview the reporter before he interviews you". News reporters are not always as objective as they want people to believe. If the assignment editor, for example, tells them to bring back a story about how children are harmed by the practice of nudism, they will only look for facts to support it and ignore anything that goes against it. Sometimes they're only looking to do a humorous piece with lots of cheap shots at our expense.

Posted - 08/26/2008 : 12:54:49 AM I have often wished for a way to persuade a news outlet (print or broadcast) to spend a week presenting only the local accomplishments, not the failures. Give us the sports results and the kids who made honor roll; show the fire crew doing a rescue, or tell about the business leader who helps out at the Big Brothers. Just one week without the shootings and car crashes. See if the market responds.
I was going to respond to some other things, but my mother told me to avoid religion & politics in polite discussions. More to Ranger's original point, one of the positive stories that could run would be a feature on the nearest naturist resort. Skin is so much more pleasant than blood.
Jefferson wanted a strong press for a nation well informed, so that they could make wise choices for their leaders. I have to say, I think he'd be disappointed on both counts.

Posted - 07/31/2008 : 07:13:10 AM tgg, Me too. I stopped watching TV news on ABC, CBS and NBC years ago. I have refered to the mainstream media as liarmedia for years. I rarely read a newspaper anymore, even the sports page. My TV is defective and I cannot see FOX, MSNBC, CNN and others. So far I haven't even considered buying a new TV but probably will early next year. I do connect to WND, Townhall, Human Events, Lew Rockwell, etc., on the Internet and enjoy Neal Boortz' talk radio show and others. The MSM sells doom and gloom, e.g., the hoax of catastrophic anthropogenic induced global warming.
Best Wishes, Jim |

Posted - 07/30/2008 : 9:34:54 PM Hi,
I rarely watch the news on TV or watch violent movies or read the paper now. As time is going on I've become more tuned out from the world and starting to improve the quality of my life. I don't smoke anymore, and I don't drink alcohol to excess.
Now it just amuses me as to how messed up and hypocritical mainstream society is. Eventually, American culture will collapse and implode on itself with the rate it's currently going.

I think they may be two sides of the same coin. Cec Cinder in his book "The Nudist Idea" shows us that false modesty is nothing less than the loathing of one's own body. It is much harder to feel our common humanity when we hate our own body, so we respond only when some gripping tragedy strikes.
Many of us are forced from an early age to treat our bodies as somebody else's sex object out of "modesty." As we internalize that total loss of control over our sexuality, we come up with all kinds of reasons why such a thing should be imposed on us: that we are bad down there, that potty things are bad, that anything involved with that down their should make us squeamish, that those parts of our body are derisions. We end up with adults, like the brilliant former Governor of Virginia, when he was signing the law punishing nudist children for their and their parent's beliefs, who thought it appropriate to make infantile jokes about those parts of us.
If the philosophy is, "Nobody has the right to force our bodies to be their sex object," and they do it anyway, and they get away with it, it is the same whether we are forced to wear a burka or a bikini. The loss of control over our lives and our sexuality is the same. It is like being a little raped every day. Once we accept that irrational, silly imposition for modesty's sake, we are sitting ducks for the body negative chorus of commercial fixes all around us. After we loose our inborn respect for our own bodies, it is the slippery slope of body bad, us bad, people bad, nature bad.
Nudism/naturism is a start to correcting some of the body negative issues. It cannot correct a whole ocean of bad habits, like too much alcohol and smoking. It is the canary in the coal mine, though. Given the state of nudism in the USA, the canary is not looking too healthy.

Posted - 07/04/2008 : 10:44:12 AM Well said sadly I have no answer as to why this is. We seem to be enjoy it don't we. I think it is rather like when you see a car accident almost everyone looks.
