Posted - 03/08/2013 : 1:58:01 PM Why do you think so few - if any - conventional actors and actresses shave? I know shaving is standard in porn films but its incidence in mainstream cinema isn't at all the same as in real life.
In real life here in France, I'd expect almost all women under 30 to be extensively trimmed or, more usually, completely waxed. The proportion of men would be lower but still high enough you'd expect to see the occasional shaved actor.
But apart from one French actress, I don't recall any actors, male or female, completely shaved and very few even markedly trimmed.
I've never seen it discussed. Maybe there's a feeling among actors, especially woman, that they're prepared to show but not to show too much. And men may just not see it worth the comments that would be bound to arise.
But that's just a guess.
Can you think of a shaved actor or actress in mainstream films? And if you can't, why do you think that should be?
happy days

Posted - 03/19/2017 : 12:43:44 PM The ancient Egyptians removed all body hair and it was jus the norm. Last year at a nude beach it was interesting to see HOW SHAVED the general public is now in all age ranges....esp the women.......I didn't notice a single person who seemed to be shocked or offended by anything they saw--including piercings.... (and I have many)

removing one's hair is as old as the world. It exists in different places and cultures. It comes and goes and comes again ! |

Posted - 03/20/2013 : 01:59:48 AM I was addressing that in a previous post.
I don't know which actor is shaved or not, but I think that the area of the genetilia is more emphasized by the presence of pubic hair in adult rated movies I.e., it fairly draws attention to a person's genital area.
However, that can change in the future. Who knows? Actors, and film-makers may decide it's old hat to have any hair. That is why I mentioned current trends versus past of future modes of hair, or lack thereof.
It would be curious how the audience feedback regarding pubic hair gets back to the actors/film-makers. I can't imagine that people would say things like, "I especially enjoyed so-and-so's lack of hair." Don't know if that would show up in the movie reviews in the newspaper.
As I said, this could all change over time. The 1970's were more hairy than the 2010's. Things ebb and flow over time.
As Thomas Jefferson said, "In matters of fashion, go with the flow." The presence of pubic hair of the lack of it in the movies will ebb and flow, too.

Posted - 03/18/2013 : 10:08:01 AM This is not a topic on shaving vs not shaving! We've been down this road and we ALL know what all of us think. There's really no need to rehash this topic over and over again. What the topics is about is;

This is the subject of the topic ... not whether or not YOU like people shaved or prefer hair. How 'bout some more conversations on the topic of the thread.

Posted - 03/18/2013 : 02:48:47 AM Strictly speaking, I dont' watch porn, because nudism is not about that. However, never being short on opinions, I have "encountered" actors on screen, and the women seem to be more likely to have at least some pubic hair. The same goes at nudist venues. Some do shave, though.
We all have our observations, and yours might be different. From a nudist's point of view, such as mine, naturally, hair is not unattractive. It has a purpose for being on one's body, or it wouldn't be there. Of course,that is stating the obvious.
It would seem to me that shaving is more of a modern age thing, as opposed to eras in the past where shaving was not done, and the same went of underarm hair for the ladies.
I suppose it comes down to the taste of the public - to shave or not to shave. The overall average fluctuates over time, like fashions (e.g., wide neckties v. narrow neckties).
People have more freedom nowadays to express their follicle fashions.

Posted - 03/17/2013 : 5:59:33 PM The only differences we have, on this topic ( LOL), are that I usually will "buy" a movie because I want to watch it over and over again, for the story, and not for the nudity.
There are lots of female actors I love and think are beautiful and have sparked my attention in little clothing as well as partially nude, but there are lots of movies out there with nudity that I just don't care for.
I just don't think that many of these female actors want that much attention drawn to their pubic areas. I don't think it should matter but I'm only one person. But I certainly don't go to watch some of these female actors to see how much of their pubic area I'm gonna see.

I'm with you on the first part of your post.
To address the nudity in movies question...well that depends. For example, when Jessica Alba signed up to play Nancy Callahan in Sin City, but then backed out from being nude in the movie, I seriously cringed. It wasn't so much that I wanted to see Jessica Alba nude; but in the Sin City comic, Nancy Callahan is...nude. That's part of hr character and how it was written. IMHO, J.A. should have passed on the role rather than request a textile rewrite. On the other hand, I like actress Emily Browning. So my interest naturally peaked when I found out she was completely nude - full frontal - in her movie Sleeping Beauty. The trailer and the reviews left me lukewarm, so I took a pass on seeing the movie. In spite of Emily's full nudity.
On yet another hand, I own "La Belle Noiseuse", and proudly so. The movie is about a reluctant nude model and her relationship (non-sexual) with the artist. In the movie, Emmanuelle Beart is nude throughout half of the movie. I found her ability to act, convey strong emotion and be moving - while being completely nude - to me a thespian tour de force.
To me, nudity in movies is about performance, realism and artistic integrity. Yes, I have bought or viewed some movies because of the nudity. But it generally wasn't to see if Jennifer Anniston still had firm breasts; or if Emma Thompson shaves or leaves a strip. Maybe that's the distinction for me.

Posted - 03/17/2013 : 03:02:52 AM As usual ... this topic always takes a negative turn and gets off topic so some can continue to pontificate their narrow views. NOW ... to get back on track and on topic;
Why don't more actors shave? Because of the narrow minded views of the general public and even some of our supposedly open minded nudists. Actors are exposed in many ways. Their lives are out there for judgment and scrutiny. With people automatically assuming that, if you have shaved pubic hair, you must be a porn actor or connect to porn is some way. Why would the likes of Kate Winslet, Gwen Paltrow ... etc, want to be judged because they happen to groom their pubic area.
Most female actors will shy away from "full frontal" nudity and seems as though almost all cinema in the US is reluctant to show full frontal male nudity. Here's something to think about;
Are you going to the movies to be entertained or to see how much of the actor you'll get to see? Why is that important to a nudist? I shouldn't be surprised at some of the comments made from so called nudists ... but then again, this is the internet and you can be whatever you want to be ... even if you're not.

Posted - 03/16/2013 : 09:04:34 AM Never really noticed...not that I watch a lot of movies, and some of the ones I have seen, have had little or no nudity. I was reading recently that male frontal nudity (once taboo in main stream movies) is being seen more and more. Movies used to throw brief or partial nudity in just so they could get the "R" rating...I guess with the assumption that more people would go see it? The only movie I can think of (and the name of it is escaping me right now), was a group of super heroes, and one was a nude blue guy that spent pretty much the whole movie nude...I think he may have been completely shaved? Anyone know which one I'm talking about? |

Posted - 03/16/2013 : 09:03:07 AM I will offend many members here by stating my opinion on this one but you said it yourself you find it more common to see shaving in porn which is true. Thus shaving is sexual for the most part, I have seen many films over the years with any nudity that shows the pubic area of men or women and almost all I can remember were bushy if not trimmed but never shaved. |
