Hi, first time poster - long time reader here..

I was reading the ad's in the back of the latest issue of Mother Earth News and under the investment/income title there it was. Want to live naked warm and free - all year?
Check out their web site, it really sounds cool!
www.cambiumbene.com

I will be sending my wife's and my resume right after I finish this....

I found this old thread and my post on it from three years ago. Recently a new entry on Naturist BnB revealed a villa to rent in New Cambium. Evidently, some of the purchasers are trying to resurrect the project! There seem to be plenty of lots available at attractive prices as well as properties to rent.

Cambiumbene grew and seemed to be prospering, but slowly. I met the founder a couple of years ago at the El Portus nudist campground in Spain, and he seemed earnest, legitimate and authentic. I have monitored the web site, to see what might be available for a week's holiday rental, but the most recent Google Earth pictures (dated 1/15/2014)don't show a lot on the ground. Yesterday I went to see if there was anything new on the web site, and it was gone! However there was a reference on a DR ex-pat's discussion forum of an armed robbery back in November, and that was the most recent news I could find. Anyone else know anything?

Good point, 'comber! I would not risk a dime on such a speculative venture until I had some rock-solid assurances in writing that I could get my money back if the "Founder" flounders. And even then, given the perils of investing overseas, I still wouldn't do it. I'd hate to think that my suspicious and cynical attitude led to the demise of a perfectly good concept, and I certainly wish the folks at Cambium well ... but not on my dime.

I will not even buy the property until I have enough people signed up to provide the money necessary to procure the land

That's enough information to worry me.

You are selling the rights to land you don't even own and you don't have planning permission for ?

Greetings to you all. As the founder of Cambium, may I make the following points. You would be right to do your homework before spending money on a project like this. We would not want any sceptics or wild risk takers amongst us. I have spent the last year and three quarters doing my homework and I am working full time to bring Cambium to a reality. If anyone is interested in the truth about the project, just let me know and I'll send you the documentation and statistics. One feature about my approach, which provides security to investors, is that I will not even buy the property until I have enough people signed up to provide the money necessary to procure the land as well as install the infrastructure. It is for this reason that I cannot yet publish pictures of the place although I have selected a superb location on the north coast of the DR. With 80 plots reserved so far, we are now very close to being able to proceed to the development stage and I would like to thank all those people who have had the foresight to communicate honestly with me, discuss their reservations and bless me with their generous support. To balance the hearsay and find out the truth, please feel free to email info@cambiumbene.com

I can confrim that we have no connection with the former Eden Bay and we will not be using any of their land.
Balataf how right you are. Cambium will be a place of creation and differentiation, just like the area of cell division between the xylem and phloem of the stem of a plant.

I thought cambium was an element on the periodic table.

Seriously folks, I'd definitely do your homework before putting money into it. It may turn out to be fabulous, or on the other hand, not so good. Buyer beware. If you used the place for, say, 30 years, $20,000 might not be bad, assuming some development took place.

It depends on many factors. How many successful places has the owner made good on? What is his reputation? Does the government approve of everything about this proposed concept? What about hurricanes conceivably trashing the place? What about my relatives trashing the place? Sorry about the last question. What about waiting for some other folks to try it first? Lots to consider about the lots. If it all worked out, it would sound appealing.

"It is error alone which needs the support of government. Truth can stand by itself."

The thing to do is to inquire OUTSIDE THEIR SYSTEM, what the local land prices are and what the cost would be to buy land next door! I'll bet it does not come close to TEN THOUSASND POUNDS or even dollars.

Was this project started before the current economic problems? It certainly will be impacted by them.

Also: "Cambium" is a term from botany referring to layers of tissue that are the source of secondary growth in plants.

This new place must border the - - - - [deleted] property there near Rio San Juan, in the DR. We've met the Director there last year, and the folks in their photos are one's we recognize from England. They must be using all of the unused property there at the old Eden Bay resort. He was talking about looking for property and I guess he found it. He's a very successful businessman in England and owns many grocery stores I guess.

Somehow that don't sound right. At the end of the lease you not only lose the land, but also all improvements you made (like a house) revert back to them and you have nothing . . .

It's a 99 year lease so don't worry you'll be dead by then.

Bob, I think the price is so reasonable because there is nothing there yet. Sort of like the plot of land I once bought in the Poconos, with the promise that roads, clubhouse, lakefront beach and all would follow 'soon'. That was 1980, and they are still not there. Sold at a loss years ago. Of course, if your timeline is long enough...Florida was like that decades ago!

I repaired that link. Thanks for pointing it out guys.

The link IS messed up. Just type the URL into your browser as written, but WITHOUT the period after '.com'. The site claims you can buy a 99-year leasehold on a quarter-acre plot and build a small cottage on it for around 20,000 $US. Sure seems cheap, especially compared to other nudie places, but the whole presentation seems a bit naive and utopian to me. I'll keep and open mind, and maybe investigate further, but I'm not sending my check any time soon.
