What kind of resort qualifies for discussion here?

As many of us know, there are a number of choices for types of places to be nude and socialize.

Some members have wondered why we prevent the mention of certain problematic destinations. We will do our best to explain our policy in this regard.

First, remember this forum is about the subject matter "nudist resorts". We choose not to contribute to the public's common confusion between the nudist way of socializing and sexual impropriety.

In the last several years, we've seen certain resort destinations formerly advertised as nudist resorts begin to openly advertise "anything goes" parties, "porn parties", "skin-to-win strip contests" etc. We've seen them install multiple stripper poles while the DJ switches to playing pornographic music. We've seen invitations to swinger lifestyle open-sex "takeovers" included in the newsletters sent to the resort's entire mailing list.

At least one such resort has threatened to sue us for allowing honest discussions of what goes on at these destinations. After all, for these activities to continue, whether in Jamaica or the US, the management has to deny any knowledge of such activities occurring on their premises. Any publisher allowing such honest discussions to occur in writing faces liability if *proof* of such activity and management's knowledge of it is not readily available.

Any resort destination that creates a liability for us to have honest discussions, is probably not a nudist resort, whether or not the word "nudist" is still part of their name.

So, to keep this forum available to you for many years to come, and to minimize our legal costs, we have been compelled to determine finally what type of destinations we are willing to include under our general definition of a "nudist resort".

I'm sure there are some of you who will disagree, but here is how we see it:

A nudist resort is a destination that-
  • Allows guests to be nude or clothing optional, but "actively and verifiably" enforces standards of behavior to prevent sexual impropriety in public at any time.
  • Avoids creating an impression upon the public that the resort is a sexually oriented business.
  • Provides an environment with no unwelcome surprises for the average family nudist.
  • Avoids making swinger lifestyle groups a major focus in the pursuit of profit.
  • Respects the traditional nudist's right to enjoy a respectable, non-sexually explicit environment.
  • Recognizes the harm that can be done to the nudist industry if the above values are ignored.
None of the above hinges on whether children are present. Some resorts cater to families with children, and other are for adults only. It is okay, in our opinion, to have some events open to only the adults provided the above values are supported.

We define sexual impropriety as a sexual act viewable by others, as defined by local laws, or the appearance of such an act. We still hold that revealing costumes worn at a theme dance are not harmful in certain environments provided the above values are not ignored.

More than one resort in Pasco County, Florida and at least one in the Western US were recently de-listed. Many other resorts and clubs in the US, Australia and Jamaica are have been and are currently excluded from our forum for the reasons listed above.

If we cannot have honest discussions with full descriptions of what to expect at these destinations without causing ourselves problems, then we should not host that discussion at all.

Of course, many of these destinations are fine places to visit or spend a vacation depending on what one expects for a clothing optional atmosphere, and whether one is open-minded and tolerant of any surprises. These resorts going out on a new limb, so to speak, of sexual titillation will just have to work out their advertising needs without forums such as this one to support them.

We're not preventing visitors from finding information on other websites hosted by those who don't mind the added legal liabilities.

So— this is why some resort names come out as "- - -". It is a simple reminder that this is one of the "resorts that shall not be named", because they cannot be accurately described without causing problems.

We could re-list a resort again if they could demonstrate they've got the above issues worked out and they remain consistent over some length of time.

Thanks, Maria, good question. We would much rather have a whitelist than a blacklist. Just like the old saying, "If you've got nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all."

Have you seen our full list of popular nudist resorts and clubs? It is found under the Locations Menu.

If a resort is in there, it is because we have not yet found sufficient reason to exclude them from a nudist list.

And please, if someone sees a destination in this list that really shouldn't be there, let us know privately, preferably by email. And especially let us know if we forgot one that should be included.

If there is such a list, please forgive my ignorance. I have not found it on my pleasant and informative meanderings. Could you direct me?

Admin, Is there any place on this site which will give us a list of names (list of names only, not disclosure of what happens there) that we can not mention or ask about? Some of us are very well informed of sites about the country, but some of us, without the wherewithal to travel, know diddlysquat, about any of them. On the rare occasions I can travel to a nudist venue, I may not know what I am getting into, or even if I am allowed to say I am thinking of visiting such and such place. A list of forbidden names, that I can easily check, may squelch an illegal trip report.
