Important Announcement: Hurricane Charley hits Florida
AANR Headquarters and Several Clubs Impacted

August 14, 2004
Dear concerned friends in the nudist community,

We deeply appreciate your concerns, thoughts, and prayers as the American Association for Nude Recreation and a number of our Florida clubs dig out in the aftermath of Hurricane Charley.

Storm broke land Friday morning
As you may have read from news accounts, Hurricane Charley broke land in the Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda, Florida area on Friday morning. Port Charlotte is on the south west side of the state and faces the Gulf of Mexico. After breaking land, the storm then traveled in a north-easterly diagonal path. In fact, the eye of this storm crossed directly
over Kissimmee and Orlando before exiting to the east in the Daytona Beach vicinity.

We have prepared this information to let you know about the status of the situation from the best sources we have, including weather stations, personal phone calls, and messages. If the status of your club does not appear in this message, it is because we do not yet have much information available.

Clubs, AANR Headquarters Impacted

Tampa and Saint Petersburg, Home of - -, Gulf Coast, Lake Como Club, Lake Linda Circle, The Island Group, Oasis, and - -.
Fortunately, the Tampa/St. Pete area was spared from many effects of the storm due to the path it took.

Kissimmee, Home of Cypress Cove and the AANR Headquarters. A number of homes in The Cove suffered damage ranging from modest harm to
outright destruction. Much of the destruction was caused by trees, which are down throughout the property. The Cove is currently without power and water and is expected to remain so for several days. However, management notes that much of the basic infrastructure and club grounds remain intact. They are optimistic that the club will be back running fully---albeit with some changes from what you've known---within a couple weeks.

AANR Office Closed until electrical power is returned. Our headquarters in Kissimmee does not have basic utilities and is closed for the
present time. We have arranged contingency plans to serve you during this interim period.

To the best of our knowledge, no one in the AANR community has suffered serious bodily harm.

Where to turn for information
We will be periodically posting new information about the status of our Florida clubs and our headquarters on the main page of our website,
www.aanr.com. We invite you to check in regularly for the latest news.

Suggestions for contacting AANR
Currently we are without telephone service in the AANR office. However, our members, clubs, regions, and friends are extremely important to
us. We want you to know how you can contact us should you have an emergency:
Regarding very routine business, updates, and simple FYI messages. We suggest that you not send for the next two weeks.

Important business:
Please contact us using exoffice@aanr.com as
your e-mail address. We are able to check this e-mail from remote locations. We do ask for your patience as it may take more time than usual for us to respond. Please clearly reference AANR and indicate your name
plus the nature of your message in the subject line of your e-mail.

Extremely urgent messages may be directed to urgentaanr@yahoo.com . We respectfully ask that you reserve this address for critical, brief messages without attachments as the account has more limited server space. If you will kindly leave contact information, we will respond to you as soon as possible. Again, please help us serve you more quickly by

As of Monday morning, August 16, 2004:

Cypress Cove Nudist Resort & Spa was hit hard by hurricane Charley. Damage is extensive, but there were no personal injuries. Power was restored to parts of the park by late Sunday, and we are optimistic that power will be fully restored by late Monday. A standby generator is powering the water plant, so drinking water is available, but water is not yet available to residences because uprooted trees have caused extensive damage to underground water lines. The Cove maintenance staff is working hard to repair the damage.

Cypress Cove buildings fared well, without major damage. Two buildings have significant roof damage, and several others have lost shingles. Damage in other areas of the park was more severe. One RV was destroyed by a falling pine tree, and several others suffered some damage. One residential mobile home was severely damaged by a falling tree, and many others have significant damage. Several cars and golf carts were damaged or destroyed. Many aluminum porches, screen rooms and carports were damaged or destroyed .

The outside, perimeter fence was heavily damaged, but crews of volunteers have effected temporary repairs to most of it. The most stunning effect of the hurricane is the devastation of the tree cover. Many, many trees are down or broken, and the trees caused almost all of the damage to structures. Debris removal will be ongoing for weeks.

Full utility services should be restored within the next two or three days, but it is uncertain when we will be able to accept day or overnight visitors, hopefully within the week. At this point the Cypress Cove office remains without power or telephone. We will post updates to our situation as soon communications are back to normal so we can access our website.

We thank the many residents and other members who have volunteered to help with cleanup and repair, and especially for their patience and good nature while we wait for things to resume some similance of normalcy.

FireProf, I didn't make it to Glen Eden. I gave Travelites' proxy vote to another club.

The AANR powers that are knew I wasn't going and emailed me the notice to send out to members and clubs, I did that.

Hugs, Cheri

Cheri,

Welcome to So. Calif. We didn't make it to the convention, but are headed to San Onofre Beach tomorrow, Monday, Aug. 16

Thanks for the update on our friends and extended family (nudists) back in Florida.

Hope you had a good time at Glen Eden and the convention was a success.

Again, thanks for the update, we're glad that the destruction was to things that can be re-built and replaced and no one was seriously hurt.
