Last month I attended a Phillip Day event, and the way he talked about the whole corrupt medicine system. He talked how the medical establishment actively kept the information on how to cure or solve certain health problems like cancer from the general population.

YES, CANCER IS NOT A TERMINAL DISEASE. In fact, "terminal" on the dictionary is where a bus ends up, so the whole idea is in reality a whole fraud.

(I will now stop on cancer and get on with the REAL topic, but anyone wanting to know how to prevent or fix the cancer problem as well as other disorders please visit www.credence.org)

However, this made me make an analogy, and thus this thread:

Just think for a minute how many billions of dollars, pounds, euros or whatever are being generated by all this textile industry. This directly or indirectly puts pressure on governments to discourage (or ban) nudism. They preach words from the bible (which I have yet to find myself) as a lie to tell people that nudism is a sin and all the usual yada yada.

Meaning that the government is being pulled by the economy's strings. This sadly is one major giant obstacle nudism is facing and is by no means a pushover.

Answer 1: sure
Answer 2: sure
Answer 3: absolutely false. It's shame, not modesty.

On a game show I was watching MANY years ago;

Question: what are the THREE reasons people wear clothes?

Answer: 1. Protection, 2. Decoration and 3. Modesty

Good point, Prism. Clothing for many millennia have been used as a way to present oneself to the world: one's culture, social status, wealth, which clan he/she belongs to, sometimes one's religion, the list goes on and on. One the beautiful things I like about nudism is that all that's (literally) stripped away! It's a great equalizer, and I have a much easier time conversing with strangers on a nude beach than I would in the textile world---because there's no pretense! You have no idea about a person, other than maybe their general age, when you see them unclothed. It only reinforces the notion on just how much the same we all are.

But sadly, in the world of governments and commerce and Madison Avenue and religions and political groups (on all sides of the spectrum), there is a vested interest in making sure that people DO emphasize how they differ from each other----it drives the marketplace, it helps strengthen community identities (sets "us" apart from "them" in whatever situation)----and watering down the differences among us could threaten to undermine some of that (don't get me wrong, there are totally valid reasons for community identities, whether religious or political or geographical and even sometimes social---I'm just saying that clothing can maybe overemphasize the differences among these groups).

I'm not against clothes either, we'll always have a need for them for protection against the cold and the environment, and I'm not even against them for purely aesthetic reasons either---I think people look darn good dressed up once in awhile.

But you are absolutely right---clothing/fashion can be used for power, status, even subjugation, and certainly is a HUGE source of moneymaking in the world, more than ever before. There would be quite a fight put up by the powers that be before they'd allow a completely clothing-optional society. :)
