Posted - 09/11/2020 : 6:44:01 PM Nick and Lins, on Naked Wanderings, mentioned the topic of naturism and disability. It has led to a strong reaction of comments (including from me, not personally disabled). N&L don't want to open up on the topic because they feel they are not qualified to comment, which is a fair statement. I wrote to our Admin in Naked Friends suggesting such a topic:
"An NF-appropriate suggestion. https://www.nakedwanderings.com/naturism-with-a-disability/ is a recent thread started by Nick & Lins, with (now) 22 comments from several people including me (CalgaryMark). N&L recognise that there are shortcomings at naturist places with regard to the needs of disabled people; they don’t want to address the topic. Many people see ‘disabled’ as a code-word for only needing a wheelchair, not the many forms of disability including sight, hearing, physical mobility, and the need for washroom facilities beyond the bare (!) minimum for ‘able’ people. A thread for discussion by differently-abled people, or a menu item encouraging reports on facilities for differently-abled people would seem to be an opportunity for NF to reach out. Poor access could be a starting point. In early August 2016, I was able to visit Black’s Beach. The walk down from the hang-glider port was difficult; the long climb back up was downright dangerous, slippery and steep. A month later I had a heart attack. If I had had that on the so-called footpath, the executor of my estate would have been suing the State of CA… is there better access to B'sB? This thread or menu tab could be a place for such discussions".
Then I went looking for a heading on this site and found this old thread with only one post.
Is there a need for a dedicated topic or thread for disability? Times have changed since the first thread above, I suggest there might be.

Posted - 09/25/2020 : 03:29:01 AM Having known many disabled people through the years, I say it definately needs to be addressed. I've noticed an issue that people think the handicapped can't take care of themselves, which is only true less than 5% of the time. So, I think there may be some preconception that they won't come because they're too embarrased to have the help in this situation or they won't find anyone willing. This certainly needs to be handled.
