Posted - 11/21/2015 : 5:17:22 PM It is well documented that in the US at least, affiliation with Organized Religion has been on the decline for several decades. Although true for all age groups, this trend is strongest in the younger age cohorts. On average, the congregation is becoming smaller and older. (See the link below.)
Does this sound familiar? The same trend is obvious in what we might call Organized Nudism - AANR and TNS. Membership has been in a long-term decline, and the demographics are such that AANR might as well merge with AARP.
Look closely at the publications from Organized Nudism (ON). The ads for resorts feature pictures of unrealistically young and gorgeous guests, and cannot be taken seriously. Articles about ON activities, on the other hand, are dominated by retirement-age adults, with the occasional nod to some sparsely attended youth event. Where are the 20-, 30-, 40-, or even 50-somethings? I know they exist, because I've seen them at Club O and at Wreck Beach. I've even seen them at some (not all) of the resorts I've visited. They exist, but they don't have much to do with Organized Nudism.
Maybe the post-Boomers are no longer enchanted with Organized Anything. Or maybe the Internet has rendered ON obsolete, at least as a source of information (or pictures of naked people). Their ostensible purposes, education and advocacy, are largely undetectable out in the real world. Or maybe nudism is just going out of style. I don't know. Do you?

Yes. I see many young nudists on a web site called Experience Project. They are always talking about being naked at home, going outside naked at night, driving naked, and otherwise living naked as much as possible. Only very rarely do they talk about going to a nudist resort or traditional nudist venue. We need to encourage home nudism, real life nudism, living naked, not just nude recreation.

Posted - 12/10/2015 : 12:30:46 AM I have not seen that many 20-somethings at nudist resorts or churches. Now there is a lumping together of seemingly opposite organizations. However, I have seen many 20-somethings at ocean beaches, clothing-optional hot springs, and Sierra Nevada river and lake beaches.

Posted - 11/26/2015 : 7:10:55 PM There are nudist currents going both direction. There is an increasing number of young people who value body freedom and independence from authority. Many of them don't care if someone is naked around home, around town, or at a beach. At the same time, many of the younger people have no use for "factory farmed" nudism with all its rules and restrictions. They have less money to pay for the privilege of going naked on an expensive vacation. So they attend and participate in the Naked Pumpkin Run, the WNBR, and other local FREE events. Many go naked around home and in their back yards. Many drive naked around town or on Interstate highways. Many just go naked whenever and wherever they feel like it. At the same time many young men are wary of gays in school locker rooms, at the YMCA or a gym, and at so-called "traditional nudist use" areas.
So its changing. In some ways the culture is becoming more accepting of general nudity while no longer attending nudist venues as frequently.
I don't have studies to point to either. This is just my own observations.

Posted - 11/26/2015 : 09:57:38 AM Sadly, I think you are right, nudism is going out of style. I'm not sure why, but I know that at the "clothing optional" beach we go to, 90% of the young people keep all their clothes on. This trend seems to have accelerated in recent year.
As for resorts, it's rare to see a young family with kids. Just 20 years ago, they were common. The "retired nudist" is now the most common.
I realize these observations are anecdotal. Can anyone point to a resort or beach where the opposite is true?
