Posted - 05/16/2009 : 11:38:43 AM About a year ago the City Council in Pittsfield voted 9-2 against creating a segregated top-free beach (men and women) following a petition from at least 50 residents...
The Mayor stated it was "unacceptable and unnecessary".
The residents have not given up, and the City Code prohibits discrimination against people based on race, gender, etc., for purposes of recreation.
Under the City Code, at least, women can be topless, and the new Massachusetts law allowing breast-feeding should help to decriminalize and de-sexualize the female breast.
If you feel so inclined to help support top-free equality and an end to government sanctioned sexual discrimination/harrassment of women who choose to be top-free in Pittsfield, MA, thoughtful letters to the editor of the local paper may help open some minds.
Western, MA could use a nude-beach, and a top-free beach should be a guaranteed legal right of equality, if not a good first step towards a real clothing-optional beach.

Posted - 06/08/2009 : 4:08:55 PM Is there really a beach in Pittsfield?? I've only been there once, on a ski trip some years back - but I recall it being many miles from the ocean, and not close to the lake district. Musta missed something. Well, it was winter.
