Posted - 05/05/2014 : 9:09:24 PM Trying to keep a positive outlook about a resolution to Lighthouse Beach on Fire Island. We are supporting the Naturist Society's Phase Two protest, but we are wondering is it worth it to get a New York State Parking pass or just give up and go to Gunnison this summer? Any Lighthouse Beach naturists care to reply and share your thoughts? We love Lighthouse, but the lack of any progress makes us wonder if the nude status will ever be re-instated. We seem to remember this same problem happened about ten years ago and things were settled during mid-summer. We remember seeing it on the news. Thanks to all who can direct us and offer their perspective. Here's hoping 2014 will be a naturist summer on Fire Island.

Posted - 09/04/2014 : 9:48:53 PM This beach was definitely on our list of places to visit ... more than once. This is sad to hear that your beach, like ours, is being taken away by some prudish authoritarians that probably have some pretty nasty skeletons in their closets.
Loves being naked. Plays well with others! |

Posted - 09/04/2014 : 8:49:19 PM We were there last Saturday and Labor Day Monday. We observed many disenfranchised nudists who are following the NAC guide to protest the ban. Just barely covering the fronts. As my wife commented, how stupid that she can expose her breasts and most of her ass as we both were wearing thongs, but have to cover up our genitals. We saw first hand one of the reasons why nudity is banned. Some moron with his girlfriend or wife, was getting all hot and bothered near us. Needless to say ameuter that he was starts massaging her ass and fingering her p*ssy in front of us. Funny thing was, that Suffolk County police vehicle took no notice. Since we are both rather annoyed that we can't be naked, when we left, I pointed out the moron who was going at with his woman to the FINS park patrol. He was a bit of an arrogant S.O.B. himself with an attitude which I gave right back to him. As we were leaving, I noticed he was addressing that situation with Mr.&Mrs. Horny. People like that are the reason we can't go naked. On a more positive note, I notice the dunes are being re-built and I had read an article in the New York Post about a naturist woman who is challenging the ban. There was a big article about her. Google Lighthouse beach to find the article. We need people like her and Beach Ambassadors like at Haulover in Florida to insure we get our beach back to its nude status. Thank you for your reply. I hope to get more replies to this post. |

Posted - 09/01/2014 : 11:33:17 PM No sign of any progress at all. NPS banned alcoholic beverages at a different location along the seashore to keep local residents happy. Rangers have been re-distributed to other parts of the seashore to keep the residents of the private communities happy. NPS patrols of Lighthouse beach are way down. One recent weekend I didn't see any rangers at all, however The State Park police were around often enough as LHB is adjacent to Robert Moses State Park.
I'd say on a good day, somewhere between 2% and 7% of the old regulars still utilize the beach. Its now mostly textiles filling the void. The beach has much more litter now than it used to. One recent saturday I passed three different people openly urinating along the beach.
TLDR: Don't bother purchasing a season pass, not for this year, not for next year, and not ever again if Lighthouse beach is your intended destination. There are plenty of other much nicer textile beaches along the shores of Long Island now that nudity is banned and the new dirty rowdy textile crowd has taken over. |
