Posted - 01/16/2008 : 5:10:21 PM Many of the larger nudist resorts cater to a clientèle that prefer lingerie dances and a nighttime erotic element to the atmosphere. In these resorts, children are not allowed in the nightclub areas after 9pm.
Others, especially smaller mom-and-pop establishments and home-based non-landed clubs, are more strict to eliminate any reference or value that is not 100% family-friendly, 24 hours around the clock. Children are allowed to participate fully in all activities.
The question is, where are the "pure" nudist resorts? Which ones have absolutely NO indication of varying from the "AANR standard" of totally non-sexual nudism at any time, day or night, and refrain from ever suggesting anything to the contrary in their advertising?
In other words, for those looking for an absolutely non-sexual, 100% family-friendly around the clock experience, which clubs have a perfect record? |

I was hoping someone would pick up on that. For the purpose of this thread, I assumed the admittedly questionable premise that ultra conservatives seem to hold regarding what is nudism and what is not. This is apparently not written anywhere, but it is a strongly held belief among many American nudists nonetheless. I refer to it as the "AANR standard" with quotes to indicate its undocumented origin.
When you discuss this question among fervent AANR supporters you'll find a commonly held and aggressively defended belief that the only legitimate type of nude recreation is that made family friendly around the clock. Of course, the flip side of this belief is that there are some, but not all, environments that are still legitimate nudism but are more appropriate for adults, such as where liquor is being consumed in great quantities, or when erotic dancing and dress is encouraged.
In both the nudist and non-nudist world, there are some environments that are not sexually oriented businesses, but you still wouldn't want to bring your children to them. This could be because of the way the patrons behave or for safety reasons.
Businesses for adults to entertain themselves are sometimes justified in excluding minors, because of the liabilities that might fall on the business as a result of bringing children into an inappropriate or unsafe environment.
It seems we both agree that there is no written AANR definition regarding what is sexual and what is harmless expression. This is why I assumed that questionable but common premise that I refer to as the "AANR standard" with quotes, in order to examine what becomes of it on closer scrutiny.
quote: Your unstated premise is that a "100% family-friendly" environment requires "absolutely non-sexual" behavior. Yet I've never seen you justify any such equation. You just assume it. I, for one, would appreciate your providing a philosophical dissertation on why you think it's so.
If you do, please remember to include your reasons why you or anyone else has the right to decide what my kids can or cannot see.
I think you can see why I started this thread. And I appreciate your bringing these points out.
As our posters have illustrated, there are several nude destinations that are excellent places to bring your entire family for around the clock recreation and entertainment. This begs the question of why the other hundreds of AANR-approved clubs and resorts don't make this list in light of the commonly held but questionable premise illustrated above. This leaves an entire segment of the nude recreation culture in an undefined and badly served category, with the problem remaining of how to clarify the differences between these establishments and those that would more accurately be classified as swinger lifestyle destinations that allow nudity.
Getting back on topic, where are the "pure" nudist resorts and clubs? |

As do many of smaller nudist resorts. In my experience, the size of the resort is unrelated to its policies.

Nightclub area? LdS and PL have nightclubs, but those are the only two I can think of. The festivities are most often in the clubhouse or outside somewhere. In most cases, children are not only present but are also dancing -- either underfoot or in parental arms. Well, or they're sleeping under a table amidst the din when they get too tired to participate.

In my experience, the worst behavior (worst as you see it) occurs at the types of clubs you just mentioned.

That's as it should be, whatever the activities may be. A child's parents, not some self-appointed individual or institutional nanny busybody, should decide what their own child may or may not see.

I'd like to know too. I want to make sure I never go to any place that usurps my parental decision-making authority.

I believe that Laguna Del Sol has the best facilities of any nudist resort in the West, but in the Northwest, it seems that everyone's favorite club is the Willamettans (known as the "Willies". Near Eugene, Oregon. However, don't discount some of the smaller clubs. Often their friendliness and feeling of community makes up for any lack of modern facilities.

Another great thing about WTR is that it is NOT clothing optional.

Here it is, in the mental health section:
Children seeing nude erotic behavior
Now, back to the original intent of this thread:
Where are the "pure" nudist resorts?
No topic hijacking!

Posted - 02/03/2008 : 6:12:26 PM Hi,
Obviously, nudists are individuals, with diverse motivations. Of course there are some who are really voyeurs, who love the pleasure of seeing other naked bodies. I don't believe there is anything wrong with that, even if those are bodies of children, teenagers, mature adults or old people. Perhaps very primitive societies fall in this category, such as some African tribes, where everyone is nude all the time, or some South American Indian tribes, where the people are almost 100% naked all the time. At the same time, in most cases, sexual activity is a delicate, highly-controlled matter, as to time and place. Children are excluded, in most societies, from being audiences for sexual intercourse. Thus, it is appropriate to have adults-only activities, when there will be some overt sexual activity, even very erotic dancing. If a couple or an individual is really interested in having a semi-public (as in nude, or nearly-nude, erotic dancing) sexual nudist experience, it would be fitting to really investigate carefully to make certain that the intended nudist or clothing-optional resort actually caters to, or encourages, this. This probably would not be the place where most families would want to take children, although some families may want their children to be exposed to "nudist loving couples" involved in erotic behavior.
Question: Is there something morally wrong with children seeing adults involved in nude erotic behavior?

Posted - 01/16/2008 : 11:33:14 PM I forgot a couple other clubs I've been to that are very family oriented.
Olive Dell in Colton, CA. and
Deer Park in Devore, CA.
Deer Park is about 15-18 mins from the Ontario, CA. airport. Very easy to get to and the several times I visited, alone, I was greeted by friendly members.
Olive Dell is about 25 mins from the Ontario airport. It's gone through extensive refurbishing since I last visited and from the pictures, it's a very nice club. It was very family oriented and an aquaintance of mine is a member there and speaks very highly of it.
Two places that have not and will not venture into the "adult" themed dances, parties or allow the swingers in their doors but do not allow kids are.....
Terra Cotta Inn, Palm Springs, CA. and
Living Waters Spa, Palm Desert, CA. both places have very high standards of behavior and should be considered "pure" nudist-clothing optional resorts but both places have decided on catering to couples/parents that want to get away from the kids for a while and relax.

Posted - 01/16/2008 : 10:17:44 PM Cheri, you're right. My bad.
I've corrected the 'home-based travel clubs' to read 'home-based non-landed clubs'.
I'm thinking it will be hard to find resorts or clubs that haven't used some sort of erotic angle at some point in their advertising.
Keep that list growing. This will be helpful to families when traveling. |

Posted - 01/16/2008 : 7:17:31 PM Admin, what do you consider larger? Whispering Pines at the NC/SC border and Cedar Creek,30 miles west of Columbia, SC are both very G-rated. The current owners keep a lid on everything.
BTW, the term travel club is very passe' just as nudist colony is. The term used in NONLANDED. Before the change in vernacular, Travelites used to get a number of calls and emails a week asking me to make travel arrangements.

Posted - 01/16/2008 : 6:44:11 PM WOW........that may be tough to make it on that list!
The only one I can think of, off hand, that is near us in Southern California is...
Glen Eden Sun Club.
I was going to say...Terra Cotta Inn but...they do not allow children. Not much room there for kids to do anything. But it's our favorite.
I think the only "pure" nudist places left are some of the clubs. Most every resort has allowed some "adult" oriented theme or group to enter into the environment.
If I'm wrong, we'd sure be interested in the list!
