Posted - 05/19/2006 : 02:04:52 AM Hey Everyone!
I just would like to talk about all of the positive effects on nudism. This will help me explain it to people better and help them understand. It is my judgement that many people who find out that i am a nudist will think i am weird.
I know of a few so far such as...
Body issues, it can help people accept their body and understand that many are not perfect and that we are not alone.
Opening up, I noticed that when you are naked it makes it much easier to be more open and honest with others as long as yourself.
Nude and sexual, Many people (specifically men) can get aroused or become sexual just because they are naked. Becomming a nudist can help people separate being naked from being sexual as two completely differant things.
Any arguements with these points of view? If you have any more that you would like to share please let me know!!!
thank you
-Thomas

Posted - 10/31/2013 : 1:52:31 PM When discussing the beneficial effects of nudity we should not overlook eliminating the many harmful economic and environmental effects of clothing. Eliminating harm is a benefit.
Naked is green. Clothing is very non-green. The production, manufacture, distribution, marketing, laundry, and disposal of unneeded clothing wastes huge quantities of energy and other resources, devastates millions of acres of otherwise natural land, and creates massive quantities of toxic chemicals in the environment.
The production of cotton, for example, is responsible for about 1/3 of all toxic pesticides. Huge quantities of dangerous fertilizers are use on the plants. A fertilizer factory in Texas blew up this year killing dozens of people and destroying many homes. Cotton occupies millions of acres of land that could either be left natural or used for food production.
The production of polyester fabric requires millions of barrels of oil and other hydrocarbons. It is done in massive and dangerous chemical production plants.
Wool production has been responsible for cutting down forests for thousands of years.
Once the fabrics are manufactured it is transformed into unneeded clothing by large factories that waste more energy and use toxic dyes, etc.
The distribution of clothing requires many additional trucks on our roads. The marketing of clothing supports huge store chains costing us $$ Trillions.
And of course there is the perennial laundry that wastes water, energy, labor, sometimes causes fires, and produces more toxic chemicals.
Allowing general nudity would greatly reduce the massive waste and pollution caused by the clothing production, distribution, maintenance and disposal. It would save people huge amounts of money each year that is now wasted on unneeded clothing. Just going naked on beaches would eliminate over a $ Billon per year in wasted energy, material, production, chemicals, etc.
Of course some clothing is always going to be necissary for those who live or work in cold climates, but even in Alaska the summers are warm so clothing use could be cut back by going naked when its not needed.

Posted - 11/11/2009 : 7:37:04 PM Relaxation and feeling comfortable in one's own skin is a big positive. I really enjoy the freedom and I think going to the beach particularly and enjoying the warmth and a swim unencumbered is a de-stressing mechanism for me anyway.
I'm 47 and keep fit by lots of pool swimming (speedo's on) and some road and mountain bike riding. I am proud of how I look and am happy not necessarily to show it off but not to hide it, I work to keep fit and am also keen to set a good example for my kids to look after their bodies and minds. I see others around that I went to school with who have let themselves go and that is some of the motivation to keep active, plus its healthier to be active. |

Posted - 10/20/2009 : 4:47:17 PM Nudism/Naturism
One benefit of nudism/ naturism I thoroughly enjoy is how nudism/naturism allows oneself to escape from the world and relax. It helps to calm and de-stress the mind and body.
Those moments of whipping of your clothes are moments of rapture. As my clothes are falling down to the floor it's like great weights are taken off me. When I whip my clothes away I feel as if I am ripping off heavy constricting chains away from my body. These weights and chains to me represent the norms, pressures, and ideologies of today's society that in many ways are distorted and incorrect. Then I would fall into my bed with relief. I felt that during what little private time I had after coming home from High School, I could escape the world and its demands by relaxing on my bed in my natural state. Especially, after a hard day of school!
Alas I miss those days! For now I am a freshman in College in the dorms. There's practically no time to relax in the nude without being constantly on alert for noises of my roommate coming in. :(

Posted - 07/01/2009 : 09:06:08 AM I love being seen naked I love being naked alone or hanging out with family and friends. it doesn't matter who looks at me. they are not involving me.
But I don't mind if others want to look at my naked body. Even though I enjoy looking at naked women I don't participate to see them. Somehow it just feels good to be nude, and sharing that experience with others who feel the same is better still. And to me it not just a physical comfort, there is a psychological aspect that I'll never be able to explain. This, I believe, is what makes it so difficult to explain to others why I prefer being nude.
I believe sex is not neccessary for the nudes. I love nudity, I love nudes, nudity release my all tensions. |

Posted - 06/29/2009 : 9:59:20 PM Regarding the benefits obtained as a result of social nudity, here are some that I came up with:
1. You learn to accept others just as they are. It does not matter what sort of body type a person has. We all are equal to each other when we are nude.
2. Exposure to the sun helps with the body obtaining sufficient quantities of Vitamin D. Research has shown the health benefits of Vitamin D (do a search on Google for sun vitamin D).
3. Nudity helps you with becoming comfortable with yourself and accepting yourself as you are. There is no such thing as the perfect body and there is nothing wrong with the one that we have. Granted you should learn to take care of yourself such as getting enough exercise, sleep and diet but basic care is all that is required.
4. Being nude means not having to worry about getting your clothes dirty.
5. Social nudity allows you to make new friends and getting to know others who share your interest. Some of the nicest people on the planet are nudists. |

I would be interested in reading this. Where was it published?
I have scoured the internet over the past year trying to find legitimate research into this topic. We've all heard the claims of positive health effects of nudism, but I've never been able to find any real support. Sure there is a lot of nudist supported research and statistics but not much in the way of peer reviewed academic research. I suspect it's due to funding (isn't it always about funding?)
Most if not all of the older publications and films about nudism promoting health benefits (that are likely the basis and continue to perpetuate the nudist conventional wisdom) were clearly just a cover for early pornographers to get around anti-obscenity laws - evident by the lack of average/old/fat people. Nudists, just like the rest of society, occupy the vast majority of area under the proverbial bell curve with all shapes, sizes, and age ranges. While celebrity, fashion, media, and pornography occupy the tails.
Despite all of this, one thing I do know based on my own personal experience, is the only time I can truly truly relax and unwind is when participating in social nudism at a nudist resort. Traditional vacations are fine and have their place, but for some reason I can never leave all the stress behind. Home nudism helps on a daily basis, but still doesn't do the trick because I always have to be thoughtful of people stopping by, the neighbors, keeping the blinds closed, etc... Thus, since relaxation is a critical component of a healthy and well balanced life there must be some positive effect from social nudism on me as an individual. My wife on the other hand who always accompanies me and enjoys the resorts as well doesn't derive the same benefit and pleasure (other than a stress free husband for the weekend). Some get stress reduction from golf, painting, fishing, shopping etc... I happen to get it from social nudism. I suppose doctors and mental health professionals recommend hobbies for a reason.
My point is, I don't see how the act of being nude, in and of itself, can provide any positive health effect (likely can even be negative due to over exposure to the sun). I dare say, at the risk of offending some, humans likely first covered up out of necessity to protect themselves from the environment. The whole modest thing is a recent phenomenon that came into play millions of years later. However, it does seem perfectly rational that nudism can have positive benefits to a specific individual who has the propensity to benefit from it. There's probably as many examples as there are members of this forum. Most of which are likely related to mental health and well-being as opposed to physical health (to the extent they can be bifurcated).
Would be interested to hear the thoughts from any of the mental health professionals or physicians among us.
Cheers!

Posted - 11/18/2008 : 8:05:23 PM When we go naked, unless we choose total seclusion, others will see us. When we are anywhere clothed, others will see us. Judgements are made. Being nudists, it is so good for providing us with the chance to just be ourselves feeling the ground underfoot, the sun, and air on our uncluttered skins. Makes me feel just about as mellow as possible and my judgements fall in line with how I feel. That's pretty positive and, when naked I really do think we are less cutting and hard thinking.
