There was a good suggestion for an "off topic" topic, where the Admin won't gripe at you for ignoring the subject!
And so, drum roll please, the moment we have been waiting for has finally arrived! In this thread, and this thread only, it matters not what the subject is, nor if there was a subject in the first place. So, what's new with you?

Posted - 10/03/2005 : 4:59:28 PM Good news. Hurricane Rita damage was minimal for my family. My home lost some roof shingles, my sister's roof suffered a little more damage than mine, and my fiance's home lost their electric meter box when the neighbor's tree fell. My fiance and her dad are back home. Their neighbor's son is an electrician and he connected them back and their utilities turned back on. Just waiting for the insurance adjuster to come check my roof. My sister's adjuster cut them a check on the spot so they can start looking for a roofer to repair the damage. Add that to the list of jobs not to do in the nude.

Posted - 10/03/2005 : 11:27:40 AM Forgive me, Cheri, for taking so long to respond to your 9/6 post. Thank you, kindly, forthe advice. I guess my bride (of soon to be nine years) and I do not ascribe to the "marriage as a set of compromises" theory. If she has boundaries, I respect them. That generally leaves friendly persuasion and argumentum ad populum as the venues for change. Likely that is why your letter was noteworthy.
And, old hippie, your nonpresumptiveness (new word?) is admirable. And apparently without question?? |

Posted - 09/30/2005 : 08:35:34 AM Florida is our 2nd home. We were in Southwest Florida during Katrina and Rita, and were very concerned as each approched and hoping they wouldn't be as bad as last years Charlie. Luckily, we just got some heavy rain and wind. After what happened to Tx, LA and MS, we will not go back during hurricane season. We were lucky this time, but were shocked and dismayed as to what happened to our nearby neighbors.

Posted - 09/23/2005 : 08:16:30 AM Hello. My car's trunk is loaded with my personal files (taxes, finance, insurance, etc), photo albums, high school year books, Navy cruise books, Navy cruise jackets, box of momentos of travels, and videos of my travels. Will load it up further this morning with work clothes for a week and bathroom supplies. Will head to my parents' home which is brick and slightly further north of my home. May not have to go into work until Saturday morning if I can. If they require it, I'll have to go into the hospital and stay there overnight to be there to work in the morning. Most roads out from my home flood easily. The main roads from my parents home doesn't flood. Will be seeing nearly 24 hours of tropical storm force winds in my area with hurricane force wind gust. My mobile home is fairly new and is rated for up to 120 mph winds but I don't want to be here to find out if it makes it through. Paula, my fiance, and her dad are going to her brother's home which is brick and no tall trees nearby. Her home is nearly 100 years old and made entirely of wood and surrounded by old tall trees. We may not have electricity for several days. Soon as I can get back online I'll let you know how things went. Have my video camera battery charged and will bring my photo cameras as well so I may have some shots. We'll see.

Posted - 09/14/2005 : 05:53:10 AM Katrina's effects were barely felt where I live. My aunt and uncle who live in Gulfport, MS only suffered slight roof damage and have already gone back home. My dad's niece and her family don't know the status of their home near New Orleans but have already gotten jobs here in Lafayette. On July 8, Paula's birthday, I proposed to her in a New Orleans hotel. When she looked at the church schedule, trolly car schedule, and our work schedule she said the best day available for the wedding is February 11, 2006;...my birthday. I think she scheduled it to be on that day so I won't ever forget our anniversary. Everyone keeps asking me if I'm getting nervous. I'm just getting excited for the big day to come. Though she and I have seen each other nude, we're waiting until after our wedding before making love. Truth be told, it was her choice and I'm respecting both her choice and her. She's still not open to the idea of going some place to walk around nude but she's OK with the two of us being nude in my home. Before we announced our engagement her dad (80 years old in November) was dropping hints like he's not walking as good as he used to so we'd better hurry up. My mom had even searched and found her original engagement ring (size 5), had it cleaned and a stone put in the setting, and had Paula come over to look at it and if she liked it mom would give me the ring. The ring had always been a problem. Paula's ring size is 3 1/4 and the rings in the store start at 7. It was easy to go from a size 5 down to 3 1/4 and the stone's setting doesn't stick up enough to make putting on latex gloves difficult at work.

Posted - 09/14/2005 : 05:38:48 AM The reason for the location of the city of New Orleans goes back over 200 years and has to do with geography. Look at a map of Louisiana including the city of New Orleans. It was situated at a point in the Mississippi River where it makes a U to the south and to the north is the Lake Pontchartrain. Because of this geography, the French and Spanish (both ruled New Orleans at some time in it's history) could fully control the shipping lanes which was the only way to ship large goods and supplies. Why didn't someone in the past raise the level of the city or fully re-enforce the levees goes to the corruption of Louisiana politics. It wasn't that long ago that some members of the board in charge of the levees and flooding were convicted for their illegal use of funds. Off the top of my head, we currently have former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards in federal prison along with his son, three former insurance commissioners, and various business partners and political appointees also in prison, many connected to the actions of the former governor.

I don't presume to tell others where to live or how to dress, and I don't want them telling me where I can't live or how I can't (un)dress.
Live & let live.

You are so right! I can, however, wonder about their wisdom when making those choices in both cases.
I wonder about the wisdom of those who build in flood plains or below sea level while I do understand why they would want to.
I wonder about someone who insists on wearing a swim suit but wonder about their wisdom when they wear a suit to a polar bear dip (The suit transmits cold quicker when out of the water).
I would also wonder about the wisdom of someone not wearing clothing to a place where it is inappropriate to do that. |

Posted - 09/07/2005 : 9:10:49 PM Ok, so I can't type. I meant the days are getting "shorter." I have a tough time convincing my fingers to type what my mind is thinking.
Hey Cheri, we could hang a medal on your red straw hat..... Whoa .... You didn't go and join one of those red hat ladies groups did ya? Maybe it is just me but forming a group around a red hat is a little lame. I have this picture of you in my mind. There is Cheri nude except for her red hat. I remember a day on the nude beach, I was wearing a baseball cap to keep the sun out of my eyes and as I walked along the beach, nude of course, a friendly lady smiled and said "Nice cap." I replied "Well, thank you. It is my favourite cap. I would feel naked without it." She burst out laughing and we introduced ourselves and had a wonderful visit. So you see Cheri, you just never know what might happen just because you are wearing a nice red straw hat.
