Posted - 09/13/2005 : 7:27:14 PM Well it is inevitable. Already receiving heavy rain and 40 mph winds, and now I just found out that we are going to get a direct hit from the eye, AGAIN. (only the 7th direct hit storm since 1996) Terrific. They think the eye will be here tomorrow morning around 8am, so at least I get to sleep through some of it. They are concerned about strengthening to 100 mph due to the warm gulf stream, God I hope not. We already received over 2 inches of rain and expecting 8 to 12 inches more. Anyway I am expecting to lose power here soon, so keep all your prayers out for us here in Wilmington NC. I will see you all after the storm, maybe with pictures, and we'll see how we weather this storm out this time.
Here is the link where you can see the hurricane and the local radar here:

We had significant flood damage. We unofficially received about 11 inches of rain here and now as I write this is in the Outer Banks reaking havoc. We did have plenty of power lines down and some damage to business' near the beaches and lot of beach erosion. But the flooding was definately the worst. The storm stalled out overnight Tuesday so by the time the eye barely reached us, it was about 5pm Wednesday. The eye missed us by about 10 miles to the east. Now Brunswick County, south of here where Whispering Pines is located, had loads of flooding. Sunset Beach and Holden Beach had some significant damage. U.S. 17 between here and Myrtle Beach is closed in many sections due to it being flooded or washed away, as much as 2 feet of water on the road near Shallotte. I haven't spoken to Whispering Pines yet to see how they made out, but I am sure they had flooding and down trees. This storm was only bad due to its slow, crawling movement, at times stationary. Otherwise I feel way made out ok considering.
