Sometimes, Got5, we can diminish our fears by defining and identifying them. Your statement that, "I'm kinda scared" could readily be applied to a skier standing at the top of a ski run which is new to them, and feeling apprehensive about the run. Are the skills up to this hill? Am I in shape for this exercise? Did I complete the proper preparations? ..."I'm kinda scared"... But this person has the potential to control all the factors which give rise to those fears, and can take the appropriate steps to minimize the risk involved.
. Not so the surgery patient who is fearful of the forthcoming procedure: the skill is the surgeon's, the preparations are done by the O.R. staff, and there is little the patient can do at this point to change the outcome. Scared, indeed.
. What do you think is the cause of your fear? And are the factors within your control? There is a prayer attributed to St. Francis: "God grant me the strength to withstand the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." Sounds like a good request, if you ask me.

That's not the nudists, that's the beach itself, that is not safe for some.

Egad, Balataf, that's a rather disturbing outlook on life in the out-of-doors. If I had not already spent more than a few years of my life sprawled on various and sundry beaches, I might be disinclined to begin. But, since all I have suffered in the past 2 decades is a bout with cancer which was in no way connected to the beaches, I think I will continue to spread my blanket on the sand. But I will think twice about eating sandwiches there.
. Then again, I still enjoy raw oysters, so I must have some sense of adventure remaining from my younger days. Life is not risk-free, and sometimes the higher the joy, the greater the risk. As long as you know the cost......

A recent news story confirmed thar bacterial counts in beach sand are ALWAYS ten to twenty times what, in the water, gets a beach closed as
"unsafe." Experiments have shown that truckloads of sterilized sand only take three or four days to reach the same levels as the surrounding beach.

As I said, a different twist on whether nude beaches are "safe."

I have frequented nude beach areas that are well attended and watched over by the locals or a naturist group.

I behave, stay close to the main group, and have never felt at risk.

It is beyond me, Mr Ludwig, why anyone would feel a need to have a concealed (and supposedly ready for use) deadly weapon in an environment so open as a public beach? Is somebody waiting to hear an announcement akin to "Foodfight!" that will bring on an intermittant fire fight among all the gun toting beachgoers?

The chance of something occurring that would excuse the use of deadly force is so remote that you should be advised not to carry a gun. Manslaughter generally produces a 5 to 10 year visit to a state penitentiary. Which is usually enough time for denial to fade and reality to enter.

If someone steals your towel, offer them your sunblock.

We've felt reasonably safe at many of the nude beaches we have been to. There is a degree of caution when there alone whether you're a man or a woman and depending on time of day and amount of people on the beach.

As in any public place, you should be aware of your surroundings at all times and when at a nude beach, if you feel scared or feel unsafe, scope the area out for couples or groups you may feel more secure around and sit close by them.

There was a couple of times that we were one of the last couples on the beach amongst many clothed men. Since that time, we tend to leave the beach with the rest of the crowd and only stay late if we are with a group of friends.

I've been to Black's beach in La Jolla and Haulover in Miami. I felt completely safe at Haulover. But not as much so at Black's. Maybe it's the fact that it's not very accessable at Black's beach, where Haulover is so east to get to and there's lifeguards and more poeple.

I'm not exactly thrilled to know that Edward is packing heat at the beach. If you've never needed it, why take it? My own experiences at Wreck Beach in Vancouver and Little Beach on Maui have been entirely benign. Naked people are, on average, nicer folks than the population at large.

When I'm at the beach or hot spring I always have a pistol with me and have never had to touch it.

The first time you do anything, everyone is a bit apprehensive be it a new car to be driven or visiting a nude beach. Generally speaking, nude or clothing-optional beaches are a safer environment than a textile beach.

Haulover Beach in South Florida is great. You don't mention which beach you are inclined to visit, so I can't give you my personal take on it.
