I'd like your input on something that I've been thinking about today. I live alone and was not raised in a typical home, so I've no idea what normal home etiquette is. My cluelessness deepens when it comes to nudist home life. So I have questions. And, being who I am (and definitely my mother's daughter in this respect LOL) I'm going to just ask away.

1) What is bathroom etiquette in a nudist home? Since I live alone I don't worry too much about the bathroom door unless someone is visiting. But what about in a nudist home? It seems like there'd be no reason to close the door while bathing. Or is there? I assume the door gets closed while using the toilet.
2) Is dressing and undressing done privately? Again, I can't see much reason for privacy in this matter if you see each other nude all of the time. On the other hand, I felt more uncomfortable dressing/ undressing with others around me than while nude at the nudist events that I've been a part of.
3) Do nudists sit on towels in their own homes? Or is that just in public places?
4) Back to the bathroom: is it common to share the bathroom in a nudist home? For example, one person using the shower or tub while another person is at the sink brushing teeth.

I'm sure I'll come up with more questions about this intriguing topic (intriguing to me, anyway) and I'll throw them out at you as they come.

Melissa

The new show buying naked on TLC has pop ups. That give pointers on the nudist life style. That would help those who want to get into it or those who don't understand it.
We been going to TLR for visits for 2 years now. When showering I use the out door open ones or the coed indoor ones. But use the restroom in private. When we camped last year
I took a nap once but went inside the tent so I could have a little private time which is common because even nudists want some private time.

Our youngest was married to a man that wasn't into nudity at all ... unless it was sexually related. He didn't understand simple, non sexual nudity, nor the nudist lifestyle, although he was respectful of our way of life.

The marriage is over for many reasons. And our youngest has moved on but when she was dating she made it a point to discuss nudism, non sexual nudity with those she dated more than a few times to see what their reaction would be. Those that had no problem with it, she explored the relationship further. Those that were open to discussing it, kept the interest alive. Those that did not understand it, didn't like it, weren't open to discussing it or learning about it ... didn't get any more dates.

She's in a relationship with another divorced person and they've been open and truthful about their wants and needs. Our youngest is very interested in exploring more of the social aspect of nudism and she needs a partner to experience that with her or at least open to discuss it and try it. I think she's found it in this person.

We were surprised that simple nudity, nudism and social nudism were a pre-requisite in a relationship for her but are glad that she's found something she's interested in participating in and wants someone to enjoy it with her.

Not really "home life" so to speak, but on topic. I moved into an apartment last month. There is a business downstairs (my friends business) and two apartments upstairs. I live in one, my best friend (whose family owns the business) in the other. He has no issues with me being naked whatsoever. Today he told me that he was talking to his girlfriend and he said "I don't think I've seen Willy wear clothes once since he moved in". A little exaggeration, but not too far off. LOL

Also, I've just started seeing someone recently. While she is definitely not into the nudist thing, she has no issues with me being naked at all. I haven't been naked around her yet because we've only gone out a few times, and you can't quite be naked at restaurants, but she said that it's fine with her.

Wow ... 10 yrs! Since that time, without even meeting in person, Melissa and I/we have become good friends. We stay in contact on these types of forums, Facebook and via PM or email. I truly hope to finally meet up with Melissa, in person, in the near future.

I think what you're saying is true. It has been for me, on occasion, and I go in spurts on whether or not I'll go through an entire explanation of a particular topic or ... direct the newbie to the FAQ section or post a link to an archived discussion on the topic. What has kinda killed nudist forums for me, is not only the plethora of shaving and erection topics but the numerous political threads that now dominate one site.

I always find it laughable that "we" still make statements like ... "nudists are the friendliest and most accepting people you'll ever meet." That ... is pure BS! Some or lots of nudists might be but certainly not most or ALL. It doesn't matter where we go, we always find stuck up, narrow minded, bigoted, snobbish, cliquish, opinionated ... people that certainly do not drop those things when drop their clothes.

With far too many "veteran" internet nudists on these sites to do nothing but make a joke or wish crack after a newbie asks a simple question or automatically calls someone out as a "troll", accuses someone of not being female, is it any wonder why so many newbies and especially women, stay away from these types of forums?

I think you're right, these types of forums have gone from informative to "let me show you how much more about nudism I know about, than you do," or "you're wrong, I'm right and that's all there is about it." I've also found that many of the internet nudist veterans have very little experience in what they are talking about and there are also many that think ... there's only "their" kind of nudism that is the right kind of nudism.

Many of the internet nudist vets that have taken this attitude need to leave these types of boards before it can go back to what it was, when you and I first got on and tried to help or advise newbies, such as Melissa. It's certainly gotten more hostile since then.

BTW ... Melissa has truly grown to be a prominent figure in the naturist community. She was writing a column in the AANR Bulletin and had a blog going but has gotten very busy in her personal life and with nudist advocacy since this post. She's definitely a veteran nudist and has a wealth of knowledge to share with newbies.

I'm usually not one to "bump" an old thread; but I'm "bumping" this one moreso to make a point than to discuss it. My point: this was actually a REALLY GOOD question!!! It was specific, relevant and came from a place of natural inquiry and interest in the nudist way of life. It was actually asked by Melissa nearly a decade ago.

It's not just questions about "how families actually live when nude"; it's about any question that shows an interest in the nudist way of life and/or pursuing it. The seem to be getting more and more rare. These days nudist forums seem to be about "venting" rather than healthy exchanges of impressions/expériences or Q and A's between newbies and experienced nudists - such as the above thread. Is it that people have lost interest in nudism? Nudist veterans have shared their expériences so much that they have lost interest in continuing to do so? Newbies are turning away from nudist forums because of the plethora of topics on shaving and erections?

I think the answer may not be as dramatic. Since I started nudist surfing, I've seen ever range of question being asked, from the most inane to the most over-analytical. An astute web surfer need only type in key words in a search field to go straight to the topic of interest. Thus eliminating the need to actually start a thread to ask a question. That can be a good thing; but it essentially eliminates interaction and turns and turns forums into "information repositories." And newbies becomes ghosts because they remain in the background, not interacting and therefore not allowing us vets to interact with them.

Is this what is happening to nudist forums? Any thoughts?

We practiced nudism in the home and bathrooms were shared and not closed unless someone was doing the #2. The doors of our rooms were alsways open except for moms and dads. I found out later that they were swingers and when their friends came, they would entertain them in their bedroom. We were all smoothies and shaving the pubic areaas was just like shaving beard. We set on towels in the living room as well as in the dining room. My sister and mom wore gentital jewellery as well

Hey Melissa
I am a nudist (the only one in my fam) but I can't be nude all the time around my fam cos I have a step son we don't know what his dad would do should he find out I hang around nude at home but, we don't close the bathroom door when bathing etc and we do share the bathroom, as for dressing, it make no diff if some else is in the bedroom while we dress both my stepson and daughter have seen my wife and me bath and even stopped to chat while we bath.

How right you are. My brothers and I used to wrestle and fight all the time when we were kids. But if we were all nude, then no way!

Since I live alone and have since 2004, I can be be Nude 24/7, Although It's taken time to get to this point and shake years of conditioning, But anything worth doing sometimes takes time. And I find unless It's really hot I don't have to run the swamp[evaporative] cooler on high anymore, Especially at night, Sometimes I leave It off and that will be reflected in My next electric bill, Water is only $10 a month here(pumping charge, Meters were tried and froze when temps went below 38F(insulated pipes didn't help), The park where Me and My house live(My house is owned by Me[no mortgage either] as I'm a resident, Not a tenant) would have to bury the meters in the ground and that isn't cheap I hear.
