I was happy to see the opening of Mira Vista Resort in Tucson amid much media fanfare. The Southwest, and the West in general, need lots more resorts! Has anyone on this forum had the chance to stay at Mira Vista? If so, a brief trip report would be greatly appreciated.

We went, we saw, we stayed ... WOW! MV is now our getaway place! We've convinced our group of friends to make MV our annual gathering spot. They will not be disappointed.

Heading there in 2 weeks - anything new there?
nudesunguy Posted - 10/17/2012 : 11:20:31 AM
Thanks.

I forgot to mention there is a very well-equipped gym and a volleyball pool, as well as table tennis and pool tables, horse shoes, and bean bag toss games.

Also, you can walk the perimeter of the resort nude; about an 1/4th mile or so.

Nice, honest report on Mira Vista. As future guests, we appreciate the time you spent posting. It was quite helpful.

We found the resort to be very deluxe. It's well laid out with wonderful foliage and stone work. There are two pools, a hot tub and large conversation pool (which could be warmer), cantina/bar and dancing lounge. We stayed in a condo and it was well-designed and top notch in every way.

We had several meals at the restaurant and were very happy with them. The menu is limited, but all the ingredients are fresh and made to order (including the mayo). The chef, Ronni, came to our table every time to make sure we were happy with our food, and she usually brought extra (free) appetizers or drinks. The portions were large so that we often could take food back to the condo and have a second meal.

There is a national park about 5 miles drive from the resort. It's a fun place to hike, filled with plants that most of us rarely get to see. There are also petroglyphs visible on some of the rocks you see from the dry riverbeds.

The resort is a short drive to shops (CVS, Frys, etc.) where you can buy essentials. We didn't check out the local restaurants, but heard there are a couple good ones nearby.

Out of our 4 days there, we had two with either morning showers or cloudy, less than hot weather. I say this to let people know that perfect weather is not guaranteed in October, although we may just have been very unlucky.

When we first went to the pool we saw mostly elderly guys, but as time went on the ratio went into the direction of couples and younger. I'd say the average age was around late 40's, with almost a 50-50 man/woman ratio. All in all a nice mix of people. We met folks from the East Coast, California, Seattle, and even Australia. The resort allows day visitors which adds to the mix. The cliental seemed "up scale;" people who had traveled a lot, been to St. Martin, Europe, etc. Everyone was very friendly, included the folks who had purchased condo units there. We went to the dance on Saturday night. It was sparsely attended, but fun.

One thing that appealed to us was the lax enforcement of the rules. The signs said no phones at the pools, but many people were listening to music on their phones and texting just like in the real world. People did leave the pool area for the rare audio phone exchange. Another rule is that you are supposed to purchase your drinks from the cantina, and yet I saw several visitors with coolers by the pool. There seemed to be no visible "security," which is refreshing since adult nudists are generally very good at policing themselves.

There were a couple of negatives. The introductory tour was too long and detailed. The woman meant well, but we explained that we have been to their sister resort many times and know the ropes. If we can't find the jet switch for the hot tub, we will ask ;-). When you first get to a resort and it's 90 degrees out, you want to strip and jump in the water, not be shown the grounds.

When we arrived on Wednesday, painters were touching up the the condo stairways. Although they were respectful, it was still a bit odd to have workmen walking through the resort most of the day. As my wife said, it's bad enough to walk by construction guys when you are wearing clothes, much less when you are naked. Friday morning there was construction of some kind going on at the edge of the resort, and in addition to the sound of a Diesel engine, some very strong fumes were being blown in. Not what I want to smell at a luxury resort, especially on a weekend, although it was over by 9 AM.

There are three makes of loungers by the pool: comfortable brown mesh ones, annoying plastic tan/white ones (same as at Laguna del Sol), and some old, horrible lattice ones. When you spend millions creating a resort, I think it makes sense to make sure all the loungers are actually comfortable. And it was not just us; I heard others complain about these chairs. My advice is to replace all the plastic junk loungers with the wonderful brown metal/mesh variety.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
The real question is whether we would return? The answer is absolutely yes. Some of the negatives mentioned above were just by chance and I expect others will improve as time goes on (construction is finished, the painful loungers replaced, etc.). All in all, it's a lovely place in a beautiful setting with everything you need for an enjoyable stay. It's not inexpensive, but the quality is there.

We haven't been there in a number of years. Can't wait to read your review!

Since we are on vacation we can deal with slow, as long as the quality is there. I've heard great things about the chef there. Thanks for the feedback.

Thank you so much for that info, MrsAZ!

Nudesunguy...MV is very nice. The original rooms are a bit more rustic, but certainly nice. I guess they just have more character than the condos. The condos are very nice...upscale and comfortable. We opt for the original rooms when we go since they are much more quaint and it seems more quiet. Nice to have the restaurant right on the property. You do have to cover the bottom half while dining, as I recall.

Go and enjoy the sunshine!

AANR mid-year board meeting was held at Mira Vista. I don't think they'd have the meeting there if it was less than previously reported.

The last trip reviews are from late 2006, has anyone been to this report recently? I'd be interested to hear what you thought. Thanks!

We have been there as well. Didnt much care for the facilities compared to - - - . We are curious about the Desert Fountain Inn. The website looks nice, anyway. I called out there, and talked to one of the owners. She seemed nice and all. As far as Mira Vista..its not so much that they would or wouldnt allow teens. Its more if my girls would enjoy going. As it appears to be a smaller more couple oriented resort.

Jenn,

There weren't any teens there during my visit, but Jan Pitts mentioned a couple who had brought their daughter to the resort earlier in the year. You could always call them and ask what their policy is.

Have you been to Living Waters in Desert Hot Springs?
allnaturalwife Posted - 10/03/2006 : 5:33:31 PM
Oh I know.. We go to - - - as well as Terra Cotta quite a bit. Been to Morningside as well. Actually we've been to them all. We are planning a trip with the RV up to AZ to stay at Shangri -La with some friends. Maybe while out that way we will check out Mira Vista. I get the impression its adults only though. Not really a place for our teenage daughters..or is that not the case?

Jenn
