Posted - 03/23/2009 : 10:34:06 PM When in St. Maarten, stay away from the commercial side of Orient Beach if you ask my opinion.
The best beach in St. Maarten is on the NW corner called Bay Rouge. Manny and his friends will take care of you. They have the best shrimp and the coldest - - on the Island. Great snorkeling and topless is accepted in the main area. You can rent chairs, umberellas and snorkling right there. Walk West about 250 yards and set up camp for totally nude sunbathing or rent a snorkle and swim around the point to a very secluded private beach just on the other side where you and your date can let the wild side go! If you bring a rent a car, make sure you tip the front boys to keep an eye on things. They will also help you carry any items you need help with to the beach for a very nominal fee.
The 2nd best is Cuppocoy Beach on the Western Side. Once the very best and most secluded on the Island, Mother Nature has taken its tole on the sand and developers have come in and are putting in a condo development. But topless is still the norm and around the Southern point au natural is the rule of thumb.

Posted - 01/27/2012 : 12:06:33 PM I've done the peggy and paul trip three time. Twice around the island and once to St. Barts. They were all fun trips. I wouldn't do the St. Barts trip again. Nothing to do with Peggy and Paul. st.Barts just isn't worth going to.

Posted - 01/18/2012 : 05:59:37 AM You might have to buy a cheap grill, but you could strike lucky, as some people do leave them for "the next guests". It's that kind of place.
Thanks to pc1961. We like the sound of the Peggy and Paul tour. Made a note of that one.

Posted - 01/17/2012 : 2:01:26 PM For up to the minute information on St Martin, google TRAVELTALK ONLINE then go to the St Martin board. It is very active. Many of the forum members stay or day visit Club O. All other kinds of info about everything else the island has to offer.
If you go, I highly recommend doing Peggy and Paul's around the island tour. You can strip off everything at the "naked buoy" and spend the next 8 hours boating, snorkeling, watching the planes land and seeing the whole island from the water side while wearing just a smile.
Edited to add link http://www.nudetrips.net/ BTW the picture on the landing page with 6 people looking to sea. That is Paul on the end of the right side. Peggy is on the end of the left side. |

Posted - 01/16/2012 : 11:53:21 AM Hi David,
Club Orient does have a restaurant and bar on the beach, both clothes optional, and we like them both. People do dine nude in Andy and Cheryls, just over the rocks after Pedro's. Best to hire a car perhaps to do bulk shopping for wine, food etc., to have, when not wanting even to stray as far as the restaurant at night. Having a grille, loaded with ribs, steaks, fish or burgers outside the unit is just great. In a perfect world, the whole beach would be clothes optional, but after about 08.00 in the morning, it really is just the Club Orient end of the bay where all you need is your skin.
What to bring? Stuff to fight off the bugs at dusk. You don't always see them but they attack with gusto! The best place to be is right next to me as they just love my Brotish skin to the exclusion of any others! So, I load myeslf up with the local sprays and lotions as the sun sets. All over pretty soon and once it's dark out I venture again. Apart from the usual stuff for holidays bring what you want but I always take too many clothes. I really should know better.
The guests tend to be at least 80% from the States with a few British. Last year, our next door neigbours were from Germany and they, like us, just loved the place. My school boy German got a little use! The beach units are fine but we also like the "Mini Suites" which are close to the reception and boutique.
Over the years almost all of the guests are returning, as Club Orient is pretty addictive. I've heard some complain about the lack of a swimming pool, but the Ocean does us. Paradise does not exist on this mortal coil, but we reckon Club O will do in the meantime!
So, David look at the web site and all the blogs from others who have been to Club Orient. Some don't like the place, but for a naturist holiday, we've found nothing better. Next October, we hope to be back for another two weeks of pure chilling out to set us up for the winter.

Posted - 01/15/2012 : 6:51:54 PM Club O has an onsite restaurant, but that's your only C/O option. If you meet some people you like at Club O (and we did) it's fun to put together a communal dinner. Grocery stores are a few miles away. |

Posted - 01/10/2012 : 07:24:01 AM My wife and I have been to St Martin many times, always staying at Club Orient. For us, the 24 hour nudity is wonderful. The beach in October, when we go is never too busy or crowded. We do venture out for the odd day trip and dinner out at night, but it's always just great to get back and "shed the threads". Local restaurants cover all ranges of price and vary from French to Island cousine with a fair amount of US influenced food too. So, if it's a nude holiday you are wanting, Club Orient / Orient Bay is well worth checking out.

Posted - 01/05/2012 : 9:44:41 PM My wife an I just got back from St. Maarten. We were there about 2 years ago and the beaches have changed. We went to Long Bay and Plum Bay. Neither is as "private"as they used to be. Both were quite populated. There were a few topless women, but no nudes. I buffed it and got no comments, but it was a little off putting. You can't go home again. |

Posted - 03/30/2009 : 03:35:30 AM My wife and I visited St. Maarten earlier this month and just loved it. We stayed at Cupecoy beach and visited Long bay, happy bay, Friars bay,and Orient. Of the 4 Orient was by far our favourite. Even though we were staying walking distance from Cupecoy we found it very small and spent very little time there. The nude area is divided into 3 areas. On our last visit there the last beach was completely gone. The sand had been completely washed away. The vendors had moved to the middle beach. It was pretty quiet with only one other couple. I felt like I was intruding. The other beach seem predominantly populated by Gays and partiers. Nothing against gays and partiers but not an environment I find relaxing and enjoyable.
We went to Long bay which was nice and quiet and very easy to be nude at but access to the water is difficult with the rock along the waters edge. We were also warned not to do a lot of walking and beach combing while nude. We found the surf and rip strong and I was thrown about scraping my butt a couple of times. But having said this we did return here a couple of times.
Happy bay was a lot more busy than I had expected and I found my wife a little uncomfortable sharing a beach with textiles, continually feeling it necessary to roll over when people walked by. I got the feeling I was violating someone elses space. I spent most of the time nude. I covered up when we took a walk to the other end of the beach not wanting to offend any of the textiles. Swimming was more enjoyable than at long bay but the surf and rip were still very strong. I would be interested in going back during mid week to see if it was less busy.
Our favourite was Orient. Being nude there was like being a flea on the sand. We just blended in. Even though there were many looky lou's, we felt completely anonymous and safe. We were doing exactly what was expected of a nudist at a nude beach. We aren't "pretty" enough or young enough for anyone to find us interesting so we were able to just lay there and let it all hang out with out drawing any attention to ourselves. We aren't into the socializing or partying so it was just perfect for us. Swimming was much nicer here with a reef about a half a mile or so out to break the waves. There were still waves but not nearly as strong as the other beaches.
We enjoyed ourselves so much I've booked for next year already and we will definitely be returning to the Club O end of the beach. Hope this helps.

Posted - 03/29/2009 : 10:21:02 AM Have been to SXM (airline code) several times. St.Maarten is the Dutch side (non-nude but topless) and St. Martin is the French side (nude). No passport is required to pass from one to the other.
Cupecoy Beach has indeed eroded over the last 10 years. It is definitely nude. Vendors will provide water, beer, umbrellas and chairs. Can be reached by public transportation - bus for a buck to the golf course. Give the driver another buck to get to Cupecoy condos. Then walk a few blocks to the beach on your left. No facilities, little shade. At the end of the day, hitch a ride to the casino area; have a beer and enjoy the open bars and music.
Rouge Beach (red beach)has no public transportation that I'm aware of. I believe I hitched a ride from the golf course. It was very lightly populated when I was there. Being a nudist I like being near other nudists. So this beach did not turn me on.
As to Orient Beach, one can get a cab from Phillipsburg center for $5 a person with the driver expecting 4-5 people before it is worth his while. When the cab is there, go to the right for the beach at Club Orient. All nude, no commercialism. To the left is a commercial area with a male/female bikine shop, a couple of restaurants, a souvenir shop, and the Adam and Eve shop. It is run by a lovely French lady who is essentially nude. She wears a pubic shield and nothing else. It is not a bikini bottom. Of course, she sells them at her shop. You can take a picture of herf with permission. You can walk the beach nude from Club Orient all the way to Mont Vernon Hotel. Some peoples chairs may be close to the water line, but being a nudist, hold your head up high and walk on by.
Then there is Pinel Island which is nude. There is ferry service available but I don't know how much.
And one should not forget St. Barts. A ferry ride is available for a day trip. I believe the fare is around $35 RT. You musst have your passport with you. About 5 blocks from the ferry landing is a nude beach - Shell beach. A map is desirable. No facilities. No vendors.
In Phillipsburg, avoid the info ciosks as much as possible. Mostly they want to sell you hotel rooms. Again, get a good map. |

Posted - 03/29/2009 : 12:13:51 AM Nice report. We have only been to St. Maarten once and that was a criuse ship stop. I was hoping to get to a nude beach with my wife, but it just didn't work out. We did enjoy a nice beach and there were topless sunbathers. My wife wouldn't try it. But later on after getting off the ship in Miami agreed to go to Haulover. So the stop in St. Maarten was benefical to let her do some nude sunbathing. But I would like to go back to the island and spend a week and spend some nude sunbathing.
