As of December 10, 2009, ownership of Sorobon passed to two locals who own the sailboarding center next to the resort. The new owners have announced their intention to end Sorobon's nudist status as of December 1, 2010. If you've ever wanted to visit Sorobon, you'd better do it soon.
There may be a small ray of hope, however. On their website, the owners have acknowledged receiving a flood of emails from disappointed Naturists all over the world, and are considering having a Naturist time slot each year from September 1 to December 15. Not great, but it's far better than nothing. I would encourage potential visitors to Sorobon to send them emails supporting this idea. Even better, let your money do the talking, and pay a visit to Sorobon this year if you can manage it. |

Posted - 01/04/2011 : 09:41:08 AM It has been almost three weeks since I emailed Sorobon (see above), and I have yet to receive a reply ... which suggest I'm not likely to get one. I think it's time to write Sorobon off as a lost cause. |

Posted - 12/15/2010 : 05:16:53 AM Sounds like it could be a major bummer. I'd rather have a coronary atery bypass performed without anesthesia than lose yet another nudist facility. We have lost a fair amount of nude beaches in the new prudish California.

Posted - 12/14/2010 : 9:00:05 PM According to recent reviews on TripAdvisor and on some online Bonaire forums, the new owners at Sorobon seem to be struggling. Repeat visitors note a deterioration in cleanliness and maintenance. The owners are apparently trying to sell off some of the individual units in order to raise some cash - not a good sign. The shopping shuttle has been cut back to once a week, and the kitchens are being taken out of the cabins. Reviewers suspect this is to create a captive market for the on-site restaurant.
It isn't entirely hopeless. Castaways Travel's website says that Sorobon will allow naturists, but only in September of 2011. It's not clear whether it will be all-nudist or mixed nudist/textile. And after that, who knows? It's just so sad that a once-viable nudist resort is being taken down by new owners with a bad business plan.
In fairness, I should say that this is all second-hand information. I've sent an email inquiry to the management to clarify their plans for nudists, but haven't gotten a response yet. If anybody has been to Bonaire recently and can shed some light, please do. |

Posted - 08/12/2010 : 3:19:27 PM Oh the travesty! Just when I was ready to schedule some vacation time in January, it's too late. Everything I've read about Sorobon was good, and I'd hoped to work in some diving, just because Bonaire is reported to be wonderful. We may still go for the diving, but it is a shame to lose one of the few naturist beaches , and one of the best at that. Harrumph!

Posted - 05/28/2010 : 09:04:38 AM Truth to tell, I've never been, but it's been on the Bucket List for years. I've been to Bonaire to dive, but that was back in the Dark Ages before I achieved Nudist enlightenment. D'oh!
By most accounts, it's a terrific resort, on a par with Club O. I am pulling what strings I can to arrange a visit there later this year. The only problems are time and money! |
