I went to Secret Cove three times, and found it to be a great way to spend the day. If you're an extreme extrovert, you can enjoy a lot of conversations with the others. If you are shy (like me) you can get on one of the beach's provided air mattresses and float out onto the lake. Uhhh, don't try to go across the whole lake. LOL. I like to navigate around the local area.
The one drawback is the presence of yellow jackets on the sand. I saw one fellow get stung. Ouch!! They are not present out on the lake, so you can free-float around on the lake and not worry about the those little guys.
The view is incomparable,and the clarity of the water is truly amazing. When I was a boy, I could drink water out of the lake, but I wouldn't do it now, though. The goverment caused MTBE to put into the lake; MTBE is a horrible poison that the government mandated on oil companies to try to save gasoline. It backfired, didn't save gas, but rather poisoned lakes, rivers, and entire towns.
The first time there was a show-stoppper for me. I had been to Tahoe many, many times, but with wearing swim trunks. Not on my last three outings!! It felt odd, and yet freeing to be nude on this beach, while gazing around the great view there. A truly sublime experience. I've attached a photo for you to see it.
The lake is 6229 feet in elevation, and when you are there, you feel you're on top of the world. In a way. you are.

I've talked with folks in various areas of the lower part of the Sierra Nevada (4000 feet and below). There have been more frequent sitings of them than before. Makes me wonder if they need to call off the deer hunting season for one year to give the mountain lions more deer food to chase after, instead of us people.
Time to pack a rifle, shotgun, Magnum .357, and bow and arrow! Throw in a handgrenada or two. 
I've been in the Sierra for many years and I have yet to see a mountain lion, myself. Have only seen two coyotes, and one of them was the mangiest critter I ever saw. He needed a vet very badly, but I wasn't in a mood to take him to one.
Meanwhile, Purdon Crossing is one of my favorite skinny dipping places, and I've made the acquaintance with the regulars there - something a single guy cannot do easily at a nudist resort, unless you get lucky.
There was a large bunch of 20 something year-olds on one visit. We got on very friendly terms. A few of the girls (Ok, women), did remove their swimsuits. Toward the end of the day, they were quite friendly with me. After they got dressed in regular clothing, they asked me to take a group photo of them.
I was still nude at the time, but that did not phase them in the least. As I held the camera to aim at them, I asked them to give me bigger smiles. I told them to imagine that I had no clothes on, and they got a laugh out of that.
All in all, it was a wonderful day that day. Certainly better than a fellow like me would have had at a nudist resort. Hint, hint.

You're a wise man, RenoBiker, mainly because you usually agree with me.  Hehehe. I believe, like you, that separate changing rooms are for textiles-at-heart. Viva la unisex changing rooms!

Warmskin, that attack in Cool was many years ago, but yes, the cats to prowl the foothills and higher up. It's their house. The traditional nude use area of Edwards Crossing is downstream, past Spring Creek.

Warm- I feel all places that have changing rooms should make them unisex, I have never been in one like it so I am looking forward to my visit to Sierra Hot Springs for that reason among many. |

Just another nice thought. After you have spent the day at Secret Cove Beach, you might take a short drive to Sierraville, north of Truckee, CA, and visit Sierra Hot Springs, a clothing optional hot springs place. The water is decidedely warmer there and you can soak sans clothing for $15 dollars for 3 hours, if you're already a member. I have enjoyed very much the facility. They have a unisex changing room,with private bathrooms and showers. They also have various pools at varying temperatures, depending on what pool you decide to occupy.
It's a great way to end the day after spending the day at Secret Cove.

I'm going to try out Hidden Creek beach, a little ways south of Secret Cove. I might like that beach, too. If not, Secret Cove is a short walk north from Hidden Creek Beach.
I agree with rabbitanbunny, Edwards Crossing, on North Bloomfield Road does have a lot of textiles. I have walked to the west of the crossing and have found a few nudists around. I have no problem being nude around textiles, unless they call the cops.
Purdon Crossing, northwest of Nevada City, CA, is where you'll find more nudists. The road going down hill to the crossing is a dirt road, though, and can be a bit bouncy. Somewhat unsettling news from there is that there was recently a mountain lion attack there. Not sure of the outcome. Not too, too far away, a woman jogger was killed by a mountain lion, in the town of Cool, CA. Might carry a rifle with me.
My experiences at Purdon Crossing have been pretty good so far. No resort fees!!!

I agree with you on that. Nude beaches are usually difficult to get into, which is why they're nude beaches to begin with. Edwards Crossing has been attracting too many textiles the last few years as well. |

I agree Nudesun---once I went there while ago and there were a group of tourist=textiles who were just enjoying the beach in their own little spot not gawking etc but was still odd to look over and see them with even their shoes on still. Last time I went I met a woman nice as can be told me she was more a skinnydipper than a nudist and she often comes up there every month even in winter to enjoy a few dips nude. |

Oh, I did forget to mention there were a fair number of textiles at the beach on Friday and it sort of bugged me. The space is limited on Secret Cove; do these people really have to come to this beach and take up spots when they can wear their swimming trunks on ANY beach in Tahoe?
And finally one more great thing about the beach is the guy (Bruce?) who brings several large inflatable rafts to the beach to share with anyone who wants to go for a float. A really nice thing to do. Thanks!

Secret Cove is EXTREMELY clean; in fact it's the cleanest beach we've ever been on. Hidden Creek is nice too, as are all the Nevada side beaches. Wonderful natural environments.
We were at Secret Cove both Wednesday and Friday of this week, arriving around 11 AM, and there were already at least a dozen people there both days. As the day went on more more people came, many arriving later in the afternoon, probably after work. Others left during the day, but I'd guess there were at least two dozen people there at any given time in the afternoon. As I mentioned the sand on the beach is pretty limited, so the beach couldn't handle too many more visitors.
I guess the reason the glass thing bugs me is that citizens in the US are often treated like children. There are warning signs and rules everywhere. Some signs at public beaches are comical: No frisbee, no alcohol, no dogs, no glass, no nudity, no swimming (water is unsafe). What exactly is one supposed to do at the beach? Eat and become obese? The places in Europe we've been to are not like this. Adults are allowed to drink from glass right next to the pool, and no one dies. Anyway, this is off topic, just a pet peeve.

Nudesun----I live in Reno of course and would love to go there more often but I just dont get time most times when I go I find very few nudists there at all. Last time I went last year I saw maybe 6 nudists total during the morning time like 9a-12p I hope my next visit it is as full as you say it is... |

New report. My wife and I were there yesterday. Much of the sand has disappeared from the beach and it's smaller now. Still very clean, tranquil and lovely. There were about two dozen people there, about 2/3 nude. The guy sitting next to us said on weekends the cops sometimes send plainclothes officers down to check for people bringing glass to the beach. And while I can see a problem if there were drunk teenagers climbing rocks with beer bottles in hand, I do think it's a waste of taxpayer dollars to cite a middle-aged couple for having a glass of wine while sitting in beach chairs. The fine is probably just a revenue stream for the state. Nudity is obviously no problem. We had a great time; it's truly one of the most beautiful spots in the world, made even better by the fact it can be enjoyed nude.

Forgot to say that if you need an easy-to-carry umbrella, you can find a light-weight, two section, easy-to-assemble one at a supermarket nearby. For example, the Safeway store a bit south of the junction of US 50 and State Route 28, on US 50 has them for sale in the front of the store. They sell for about $10. If you don't like Safeway, there are other stores around on South Shore or possibly Incline Village. I don't want to appear to be advertising for Safeway. Haha.
