We went to Sunsport Gardens this past Saturday afternoon. We arrived
about 2:00, just about the same time the clouds started rolling in.
As long as the sun was shining it was fairly warm and a nice day. It
took us about one hour to get there from our home in Hollywood...we
went up the Turnpike. Probably the most surreal thing about arriving
there is that they are located on a dirt road, something I haven't
seen in a long time.

Pulling up to the gate, it was very hard to tell what is behind the
fence. The trees and brush are quite thick, creating a great barrier
between the road and the resort. It struck my wife immediately, the
sign at the gate: "This is not a clothing optional resort. Nudity is
expected." Being non-members we had to use the intercom system to
introduce ourselves and to be let in. We pulled in and found a
parking space and made our way to the office. I was impressed to see
so many RVs and camper trailers (a few looked permanent) there. At
the office, we were greeted by Bob (as he referred to himself: "Bob
the flunkie, not Bob the manager"), who was very nice, very friendly
and very nude. Bob walked us through the paperwork we needed to fill
out and sign and made copies of our identification. He gave us a
packet with the standards of conduct, a map, and info about the
upcoming Midwinter Naturist Festival.

We hit the restrooms, which were fairly clean, and modern, but what I
would call rustic. Got naked, dropped our stuff off back at the car
and decided to explore the place. I noticed quite a lot of people
around the pool, but wanted to explore the nature trails first, so we
set off walking down one of the main roads. Walking down the road,
most the people we met were friendly and greeted us. We noticed that
many of the camper trailers were permanent residences in this area of
the resort. Coming upon the entrance to one of the nature trails, we
decided to enter here. The trail was narrow, but clean...it looked
like it had just been raked. The canopy of trees was thick and it
was cool in the woods...I appreciated how quiet it was in there. It
took us about ten minutes to walk that part of the trail, which led
to an open area for tent camping and then to the road again. We
followed the road a bit and turned right to pick up another part of
the trail which led to the wooden hanging bridge, which we crossed
leading us to the common pool area.

There were maintenance men working on the sauna, so that was out of
commission. But the pool area was hopping. There wasn't a single
lounge chair unoccupied. Good think we had our beach chairs in the
trunk of the car, so we retrieved them and set up between the pool
and volleyball courts. There was a volleyball game going on. Around
the pool, they had just finished the "Derby Day" races. Groups of
six people racing around the pool with a wooden stick horse between
their legs. The café was serving a roasted chicken meal with two
sides for about $6.00. It looked good, but we had eaten already.
After getting some sun for a while, I joined the volleyball game and
played 4 games. The sun was falling rapidly now and it was starting
to cool off, so I hit the hot tub for a while, where I met several
other people, all very friendly.

My wife was getting cold, so I took a quick shower and we headed to
the car to get dressed and made our way home. All in all, it was a
pleasant afternoon and we plan to return, possibly even purchase a
membership. I think we will also attend at least a couple days of
the Midwinter Naturist Festival.

If anyone has questions about Sunsport, feel free to ask me or visit
their website at: www.sunsportgardens.com.

Well folks. If you go back and read this whole thread you shouldn't be surprised by the article in the link below.

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/palm-beach/fl-nudist-colony-child-porn-20131106,0,2713488,full.story

What type of person lets a stranger take nude pictures of their children? This whole thing is sad and disgusting. Naturist or not, encouraging photography of young children is a breeding ground for scumbags!!! This guy's story is such a load of B.S. The government is not going to come busting down your door for your personal family snapshots of naturist activities if you keep them for your own family memories. Letting strangers take pictures and then sharing them with others will. Guys like this have been hiding behind the naturism banner as long as photography has been around. Responsible club owners should ban pictures of kids by anyone other than their parents (even then I would be highly cautious). And don't get me started about parents giving their consent, children are not property.

10 is binary for base-ten 2... thus the joke...

For anybody interested in visiting Sunsport Gardens, feel free to contact me with any questions. To make a long story short, I ended up buying a camper and getting a permanent lot here, living here on the weekends! I can't say enough good things about the staff, members, facilities, and all around atmosphere here! It's my new home!

Hey Adam - Hope all is well with you. Let us know next time you're in town and we'll try and make it over there!

I've been there the past three weekends. What would you like to know? Twice I went as a single male, and once with a friend from Ft. Myers (female). Every time I go I'm impressed by how friendly and receptive to newcomers everybody is!

Sunsports sounds like a nice place, especially if you enjoy the rustic environment. Anyone been there recently, e.g. in the last month or two? I'm planning a month long trip to Florida and would like to visit a few resorts/clubs, but as a single male I want to make sure I'm choosing the best ones that are receptive, friendly to and comfortable with single males.

Well, since I just spent a few days there, I'll give a brief trip report :) I'll start off by stating that I went as a single male and everyone was friendly and welcoming. I was a little concerned about the road in, it's a dirt road along a small canal in an agricultural area, but I'm very happy that I wasn't dissuaded. I checked in and paid (much less expensive than I'd expected, I was given my first days grounds fees for free as a first time visitor), and Ashley (?) was very friendly and informative. I was then given a cart-tour of the grounds, which was kind of confusing with all of the trails, but when I retraced it on foot, I realized that it wasn't too big of an area, just nicely divided by the natural vegetation. I set my tent up next to a pond with a small island that has the COOLEST huge orange iguana on it. It looked like a Komodo Dragon! :) I then spent the rest of the day at the pool/hot-tub area, watching some pretty serious volleyball. The pool and hot-tub were both at a perfect temperature, I didn't try the sauna. Today Rob (flcpl4newdfun) visited and we spent the day sitting by the pool, talking about different resorts and the army and misc BS, it was very cool to have somebody to talk with (I'm pretty shy about introducing myself)...

I'll definately be visiting again, maybe this weekend. I only came home because I was invited (via the wi-fi at the pool :D ) on a beach date tomorrow. Probably the only thing I would improve would be the size of the restroom facilities at the pool-area. It's pretty tiny. Overall, a fairly rustic resort (which I like) with friendly and normal people. Yay!

The same thing happens to many nudist parks.
Rich3800 Posted - 11/05/2008 : 2:45:35 PM
People should be driving into Sunsport in submarines, not cars.

Rich3800 Posted - 11/05/2008 : 2:32:10 PM
The whole place gets flooded at hurricane time. There should be a huge "No Wake Zone" sign to greet visitors.

We have two small children and we would not let pictures of them be used in that fashion. Each his own but that does not mean that the parents made the right choice. Putting out those pictures of those children ignores the reality that there are people out there who will use them for other purposes. I have prosecuted enough of these people to know.

But on another note, could you give me a little more information on the tent area?

Thanks,

J & C

I have to reply after reading this thread....
I 've been raised as a a nudist, after actually pressuring my mom, who I suspected of being a nudist.
I want to tell the world that my awesome mom let me be naked, and joined me, and I'll never forget how accepting she (and is).
I was 10 or 11 when I pushed the issue, and she was not only accepting, but she was naked before I was.
I guess what I'm saying is that I REALLY wanted to be naked, on my own. No-one made me get naked. As long as everyone is OK; whats the problem?
