Posted - 11/21/2013 : 4:15:29 PM Has anyone watched the show "Buying Naked"? It aired last night on TLC. It is about nudist couples looking for new homes in the Florida area. Most of it seems to be filmed in Florida Sort of a "house hunters" for nudists.
Not sure if it will be a regular show. Seems like they aired the first 2 and will see what the response is. Not a bad depiction of the nudist lifestyle. Wasn't over the top silly. presents nudists as "alternative" but we are...made a few silly remarks here and there, but all in all not too bad.
A major network with a show about nudists..not bad. Who's seen it? thoughts? |

I always just assumed it was to appear more "professional." Not that being naked is inherently unprofessional, but maybe that's just what she needed to get into "work" mode, like how putting on a tie can make some people feel more confident and ready to take on the day. |

Posted - 09/24/2014 : 10:32:33 AM "Buying Naked"
I watched another episode of Buying Naked because it was on after Love Prison.
A&E seems to be promoting nudity. Good!
This episode featured a nudist group going bowling at a regular bowling alley with lots of textile bowlers there too. The overall message was that naked bowling is fun, and that textile people should interact with the naked bowlers like interacting with anyone else. Textile bowlers were "shocked" at first but soon figured it out and had a good time interacting as normal. Naked is just a good way to undress for bowling.
The Real Estate lady said she is also a nudist, but neither her nor her associates appeared naked on the show. They also still show buns but not fronts.
I liked the fact that they branched out and pushed nudity into a regular business off the reservation. A&E seems to be pushing public acceptance of nudity. They have my support for that effort.

Posted - 08/25/2014 : 12:09:07 PM I haven't seen the program yet but, my 19 year old step daughter watches it and say " for a dating show, it's really good! " She says the fact that you see them without clothes seems to make it less about material things . She likes how they're not able to pretend to be something they aren't by using fancy clothing. "The people seem more real than in other dating shows" Interestingly, she noted some of the same reasons we all enjoy social nudity! When I told her that, she seemed to understand my enjoyment of nude holidays a little more. So, it does seem at least, in this one young woman's case, to have opened up her mind a little more to social nudity!

LOL! The "faint pixilation" of her breasts probably wasn't a big deal as you can only see the outline of her breasts and nipples. Although I'm sure some people were freaked out by it.
The unpixilated "rear butt shot" is a much more "ouch!" moment. She is on all fours, seemingly stumbling over, with a clear shot of her vagina and anus. I can understand her distress over it; assuming it is distress and not a "seized opportunity" to make a few millions dollars.
Who is the "pixelator"? I'm guessing that person no longer has a job. Maybe they should have hired the pixelator from "Naked and afraid", who has a much more heavy handed approach to pixilation.

Its not a matter of new nude beaches or resorts. Its more of an acceptance of occasional casual nudity in the real world. Naked bike ride in most cities. People going naked in parks and at "regular" beaches. Many people driving naked everywhere.
The immigrant Muslims are strongly opposed to even women with bare heads, but Americans are becoming much more casual about general nudity. More nudity on TV. Gay men allowed in "women" locker rooms and vice versa. The attitude in general has shifted some for the better. If this keeps up we may not need nude resorts or nude beaches.
The "nude" TV shows are a reflection of a more casual attitude and promote a more casual attitude about nudity in general.

Posted - 08/05/2014 : 8:29:57 PM I wish I could agree with all the rosy assessments of the positive impact that the various "Naked ..." shows are supposedly going to have. You know, greater acceptance and all that. I'd love to be proved wrong, but I think it's just another opportunity for folks to gawk at the weirdos. Meanwhile, have any new nude beaches or resorts opened up?

Posted - 08/04/2014 : 08:01:12 AM Despite all the flaws, bad editing, stupid situations, etc., the "naked" shows give millions of clothed people an opportunity to see that some people went naked and the hammer of fate did not fall on them. Many viewers have never gone naked in their lives, and many probably have never seen any naked people. What isn't seen becomes "wrong." But when naked people can be seen going about lives naked with nothing bad happening to them for being naked it shifts public perception toward nude as simply a choice of clothing which may be suitable and "normal" for some places and activiites. The more the public gets to see naked people, the more general acceptance we will enjoy. Even with bad acting and contrived plots these shows are good for naked acceptance.

Posted - 08/03/2014 : 10:53:15 AM Agreed it takes a leap of faith and a hefty amount of effort to suspend disbelief but Jackie Youngblood's little nudist reality series has successfully aired on cable TV, a medium which has not recently overwhelmed we viewers with exciting and novel programming.
I am hesitant to point out Buying Naked's small failings, such as a a script filled with nudists actually going house-hunting in the nude. And I worry that the modest number of single-family homes on Los Cabos Ct. and Cancun Ct. is insufficient to cover the season's entire run of shows. With the rampant nudity and somewhat deceptive film editing cuts as the show transitions from one Pasco nudist resort to another, viewers at home in Peoria, Illinois could conceivably be led to believe this county north of Tampa is butt naked from east to west, north and south. Do people actually drive to the nearest golf course or Publix supermarket in their birthday suits?
In all of these shows, either Buying or Dating Naked, it's embarrassingly obvious that none of the cast have particularly high thespian skills. We're not talking about emoting or method acting on the level of a Julliard or Royal Academy of London graduate, but some scenes are cringe-worthy enough to wonder why a couple of the nudists hadn't sprung for a few classes at the Bryman School of Truck Driving and Shakespearean Acting.
I don't know about you but I'm going to continue watching if only to see if Jackie can ferret out even more nudist homes for sale. If the show is renewed, she may have to convince Hillsborough County- a few miles to the south- to go nude. |

Posted - 08/02/2014 : 3:15:23 PM I agree that these show won't "convert" anyone to the nudist lifestyle. But at least they are not presenting nudity or nudism in a negative light. That's something anyway. If taken at face value, almost every show on TV is absurd on some level. They are TV shows after all. And unless your watching a full blown documentary on PBS, there has to be some entertainment value or no one would watch any TV ever.
I don't think "Buying naked" will make many non nudists all of a sudden say " Wow I want to be a practicing nudist right now" What it does do.. is maybe show people that a huge nudist community even exists (in Florida at least) I bet there is a huge number of people who didn't even know there are entire communities and resorts where you could walk around naked. If this show even shows a few people that this lifestyle and culture exists that's better than nothing. And all of the silly comments and weirdness demonstrated on these shows does NOT come from the nudists..but rather the "non nudists" So if anything, it shows them in a poor light.
As far as "Dating Naked" ...this one is just a dating show with another twist. They do make comments about the fact that they are naked throughout the entire show( some quite corny)But again, looking at it from a positive side..they at least don't frame the nudity in a negative way.
Is it award winning television? Of course not. But if viewed through "cynical glasses" nothing is these days.
