Hi Littlewilly,

I was in the same situation as you. I was fine with skinny dipping in a wilderness, but also shy about doing that with a lot of other people around. Questions hit me - Will I act like a fool in front of all those other folks? What if I get an erection? Will I be emotionally comfortable, or will I run back to my car and get away from that nudist resort as quickly as I can?

I found my fears were absolutely baseless. Nothing happened that I would classify as bad. I am the very nervous type, with a lot of anxiety. Perhaps you might have a tinge of that, too.

The one thing you can do is to just assume, ahead of time, that everything will be fine. It's a mental game. That game can be either negative or positive. For that matter, so much of what we do is mental before we do that thing we're facing.

When you arrive at the nudist resort, just take off your clothes where it's somewhat private, and see how you're doing. It will feel weird stripping down in "public." You'll get over that in moments. Actually, it's anti-climatic in that no one will really look at you, except to see that you have arrived, and then the folks there will go back to doing whatever. You won't be a star, or a celebrity there. You may even feel ignored. Imagine that!! That's okay, though, because on your first time, that's good.

Because people are doing their own thing, they are not looking at you. Some folks will be working on their tan, some folks will be conversing with others, swimming, reading a book, playing volleyball. You'll just have to get used to the fact that you won't be stared at. Take it from me- the nervous guy!!!

I never came close to having an erection, if that is a concern for you, and it can be for guys on their first time there. Because there are a lot of men there, and because nothing sexual is happening, and because you won't be touched, or be romanced with, erections just don't happen. It's good for you mentally to have an "escape" route - such as using a towel, going into the swimming pool, or turning over on your stomach if you're lying down. It's extremely unlikely you'll encounter this problem, but you can take the secure thought that if it does, there are ways you can hide it. It's like oxygen masks on an airliner - you won't need one, but just in case....

Relax, try to visualize, in your imagination, arriving at the resort, walking over to where the people are, being ignored by people engaged in activities that use up all their attention. Breathe deeply while you do this - that will help you relax while you're imagining a positive experience for the first and ensuing times at a resort.

Remember that many, many thousands of people very handily survived their first time. After that, they could not wait for their second visit.

“I rise early almost every morning and sit in my chamber, without any clothes whatever, half an hour or an hour, according to the season, either reading or writing.”
Ben Franklin

I think that are several of us in this same situation. Not only do I enjoy being nude in the house, but outside doing work around the yard and out hiking. There is no away to explain to someone who does not like being nude, how good it feels to have the fresh air, sun, rain and even the cooler temps on the skin.

I seem to follow the same route, going nude at home a lot, and it's great. So far, my only problems have been remembering to close my blinds, and avoiding my cats

Do you enjoy not wearing clothes?

If yes you are a nudist.

True; oddly enough, I've just started truly exploring nudism, I think mostly due to growing up in a small town. I have too many critters to explore naturism, I think. So far though, I'm loving it.:)

There is no particular set of specifications to differentiate a certified nudist from an ordinary human being, but if you prefer not to wear clothing you're probably a nudist, or even a naturist.

Not lewd, not crude, just nude.

Nudists are everywhere, but they're hard to identify with their clothes on.

Wait a second, then if I spend my nights watching tv nude, that technically makes me a nudist already? Forgive me, I'm new here. I just started garnering the social aspect recently

Welcome to the site Matt. Take your time reading through all the various topics to get more info to help you with your decision to become a nudist or not. Like Diger said, you may just want to be a home nudist to start. Whether or not you take the next step into social nudity will depend on your comfort level.

Most people that come here are already nudist but just don't know it yet. If you enjoy spending nude time at home then you are a nudist. All nudist are not social, even the ones that are, usually start out at home.
