NaturistDan,
I enjoyed reading some of your resort "bucket list." Since you are making some of the same decisions I've had to make, I thought I'd ask you to consider why some resorts that you feel compelled to apologize for are still included in your list. As you have surmised, at some places the atmosphere is nudist only in name.
It's not impossible to make a determination based on the mentioning of "lifestyle friendly" in resort webpages, trip reports, advertising relationships or personal observation.
We can hurt real nudist resorts by promoting their association with swing resorts through including them in the same lists. The bona fide resorts need our support, so I applaud any efforts you make in that direction!

Hmmm... An interesting point, though to be direct, the "project" was an effort to document the nearly 100 naked places we've actually visited. As is the case with certain reviewers on sites like Yelp and Trip Advisor, there are reviewers that I have come to appreciate by their positive and negative references, as that helps me calibrate whether we have similar tastes. The only time we've been inappropriately approached by other guests during our travels was at a place with a stellar reputation in naturist circles, which in my mind, makes it very difficult to establish exactly when a place earns the hard and fast designation as "lifestyle friendly."
Clearly, there are a few places on my list that fit more concisely into that category, but again, they stand in comparison with those places that we've found much more to our liking. That said, I made a decision early on that I would not bother adding a singular blog post in an effort to give a scathing review to a place we didn't like. Partially on the basis that people have different ideas as to what a "real nudist resort" is. This 100 places list is simply an effort to document those we have visited, putting that out there as to where we were most comfortable, and where we were not, - hoping that if someone spends a bit of time on my blog, they would get a sense of whether they are looking for similar attributes in naked places.
Thanks for posting my link, and for your thoughtful comments. It's been an interesting project to work on, and in the end, I hope the effort in total is useful in promoting healthy naturism!

I can understand your concept. It's a non-editorial approach. It can be interesting from the point of view of it being your travel blog. And here is something to consider.
Regarding the places that are by definition outside our circles, I've found the best approach is to say nothing at all about any specific resort. Otherwise, you're using your pages to provide free advertising for them, at your expense in more ways than one. Any publicity is good publicity, and we've provided the changeover swing resorts plenty of that in the past.
Just say nothing. No need to bash anyone. That's another lifestyle than ours. No need to provide links and specifics.
Regarding being inappropriately approached at a resort. It happens almost anywhere, but look and decide, does the establishment have a profit motive in that? Is it part of the general reputation of the place? Are the owners setting things up so you can't help but to be pestered with these unwanted advances? Then hold the establishment responsible, not the individual. You have to decide where it's coming from.
Sometimes the covert swing resorts make themselves easier to spot, because you'll see a lifestyle friendly designation in their official materials. I had one of those tonight which made it easy to decide whether they can advertise here.
I've found the TripAdvisor reports to be pretty accurate, when you filter out what is probably some self-promotion.

Yup! I see your point, but as you noted, one has to choose an approach.
I have two more segments on this project... Caribbean/Central-South America, and Europe (other than France). That will add up to our 100 places, past, present, and future. Not too keen on doing ANYthing to promote places that hurt the naturist cause in ANY way, but then you come to a place like Cap d'Agde in France, where such things become incredibly complicated. Truly complicated.
Thanks again for opening a thread on my behalf.

What a wonderful website, Dan. Congratulations for the work you did on it. We need more of these kinds of websites. Have to love the Internet

Thanks! It's the people (like you) who take a moment to say thank you that keep me going. Totally worth it if someone can benefit from our experiences - the good and the bad! :)

Decided to rant and rave a bit this morning about nudity in the spa culture in Northern Europe.

ND,
I'm so glad you started another naturist blog. From the early days of P&C Travel, we've always loved reading of your experiences with nudist travel here in the US and abroad. I know our favorite part of reading about all your thoughts and your travels is that we were able to meet you both and become friends. It's our hope that not only do our paths continue to cross but ... more frequently!
