I'd like your input on something that I've been thinking about today. I live alone and was not raised in a typical home, so I've no idea what normal home etiquette is. My cluelessness deepens when it comes to nudist home life. So I have questions. And, being who I am (and definitely my mother's daughter in this respect LOL) I'm going to just ask away.
1) What is bathroom etiquette in a nudist home? Since I live alone I don't worry too much about the bathroom door unless someone is visiting. But what about in a nudist home? It seems like there'd be no reason to close the door while bathing. Or is there? I assume the door gets closed while using the toilet. 2) Is dressing and undressing done privately? Again, I can't see much reason for privacy in this matter if you see each other nude all of the time. On the other hand, I felt more uncomfortable dressing/ undressing with others around me than while nude at the nudist events that I've been a part of. 3) Do nudists sit on towels in their own homes? Or is that just in public places? 4) Back to the bathroom: is it common to share the bathroom in a nudist home? For example, one person using the shower or tub while another person is at the sink brushing teeth.
I'm sure I'll come up with more questions about this intriguing topic (intriguing to me, anyway) and I'll throw them out at you as they come.

I can give you our way of nudist life, it may not be everyone's but it'll generate some more dialog.
First, we, my wife and I, never close the door when we shower. We always dress and undress with the doors open and rarely wear clothes at home anyway.
We do sit on towels at home also. It's just habit I guess. Makes sense to do it anyway.
And lastly,we do share the bathroom, while one is showering, the other is brushing their teeth, blow drying their hair, etc.
Hope this helps and starts the conversation and dialog for you. Have a good day!

Hey Melissa, very good questions.
It seems to me that you answered your own questions pretty well, with your usual insight.
1) "It seems like there'd be no reason to close the door while bathing."
2) "Again, I can't see much reason for privacy in this matter if you see each other nude all of the time."
3) "Do nudists sit on towels in their own homes?" We always use towels, even at home.
4) "Back to the bathroom: is it common to share the bathroom in a nudist home?" We always share the bathroom, as needed.
I see no reason to become overly-"modest" when it comes to bathroom usage in one's own home, with one's own family. We are always nude at home, so why not share the bathroom?
Naturally, Dan :)

Melissa, When dressing or undressing with only Allen or another nudist who is visiting, I am not concerned about privacy. It is common for one to shower or soak in the tub while another is shaving or brushing teeth. When using the toilet, I usually do close the door if there's anyone here.

My wife and I, when alone in the apartment, have no problem sharing the bathroom when one is in the shower and the other is at the sink. In front of each other only, we have no problem being undressed. If one needs the toilet, that is a different story. No one else may enter, and if one is in the shower, he/she must close the curtain. If anyone else is in the house, the door stays closed in any event. So, I think the answer to Milissa's question is that it depends on the rules you agree to with whomever you are living with.

I also live alone, with a cat and dog. I shut the bathroom door, can't stand having the dog watch me, don't know why. Is that wierd?

Melissa,
I'm a loner too... Never close the door and never wear clothes at home. While I didn't grew up in a naturist household, it wasn't uncommon for me to walk into the bathroom while my parents were showering/getting ready to go out.
I agree with the closing the door while using the toilet. Unfortunately this etiquette is not always observed on Rugby Tours... There is nothing worse than waking up in the morning to see your room mate sitting on the toilet doing his business. Eck!

I think like in any household whether nudist or otherwise it is based on the rules set up at the creation of the family unit and developed through it's growth.
In our household the doors are left open all the time everywhere except for the front and back door of course. I guess this goes back to being fully comfortable with each other in every aspect of our lives and share each part in the same. As for the shower question we both use it at the same time and enjoy spending the time together this is not a sexual thing just a time to enjoy part of our lives together. There are few exceptions to the doors being open all the time and they are when we have guests or my son comes over on the alternating weekend where she will close the doors when we are showering ot using the bathroom in any way. As far as towels we place them on some of the furniture but not all. But we always have one near by just incase the chair we want to sit in does not have a towel on it.

I'm not sure that the responses are all that specific to behaviors in a "nudist home" life. Having been married for 22 years, I can't quite remember when we started not bothering to close the bathroom door or get dressed to walk around the house. The shower in our current home (we have been here for a decade) is a walk-in "two-sized" and it never occurred to us not to shower together. (Washing each other's back is an underappreciated pleasure in married life.)
Alternatively, one might argue that we have simply been "indoor nudists" a lot longer than we have been outside (and more recently, socially) nude. Perhaps it's a matter of labels and interpretation. Do married couples really dress/undress/bathe outside of each other's company? I thought that was a myth even when Rob and Mary Petrie slept in separate beds.

Pilot,
I would have thought most couples (married or otherwise) wouldn't worry about getting changed or showering in front of each other. I've never bothered covering anything up when I've been dating.

Melissa;
In our home, the door is usually not shut when bathing, unless it is cold, and you want to conserve the heat. Being nudists, it is not nessary to dress and undress in private, so the again the doors are open. It is proper etiquette for nudists to sit on towels at home. It is common in our house hold to share the bathroom, just gets hectic when everyone tries to do it at once.

I wouldn't have thought so either. Nevertheless, it still is more common than you might think, even in 2003.
Those folks aside, I doubt that changing in front of; showering in front of/with; sleeping nude; and so on defines a "nudist family". On the other hand, if you reserve the term for families that are nude in social situations, the number is probably pretty small.
My point is that the label is troublesome. The argument about "clothing optional" vs. nudity required (and in which settings) is (in my opinion) a little artificial. There is sort of a continuum between "nude when only absolutely necessary and then in complete privacy" all the way to "nude whenever possible and the more social the situation the better".
At least in the USA, I think the distribution along that continuum is broader than most people acknowledge.

Melissa,
Up until I was 12 yrs old, we were nude MOST of the time around the house, we never shut the bathroom door and shared the bathroom occasionally unless one of us was doing a 'stinky' Mom has towels lined up on the back of the couch's in the living room and tv room and was always assumed you sit on one. However for me, I was always uncomfortable dressing with someone around. I don't know why, was just a thing with me. The big problem we had was the swimming pool. The house we lived in was a rental and did not have a fence so we had to wear bathing suits in the pool. The neighbors can see right inside our backyard. After my parents divorced when I was 12, nudism was no longer a part of my family's life. To this day, I never found out why. I was going through hard times with the divorce so it didnt phase me until I was 15. Then I started visiting Sandy Hook with friends during the summer and been a nudist since. However, strangly enough, my family and my parents especially do not approve, even though I was brought up into it. Over the years I learned to not ask why anymore because simply it would turn into a loud argument. This year has been a rather difficult year for my family so I may never find out why. We buried my Uncle in April. He died of colon cancer. Two weeks after we buried him, my mom found out she has a rare form of leukemia. And if that was bad enough, Found out this summer my close Aunt has lung cancer and it already has spread to her bones and her brain. That is why I went up to NJ on Thanksgiving to see them. I do one day want to start myself a nudist family, when I find the right woman. I feel it is the best way to raise children. And when I do, I hope that my mom will understand why.

Sorry to hear about the broken home and all the deaths in your family recently Coolnude72. I hope you do find a woman to enjoy nudism with.

Pilot,
I'm with you... I don't consider a naturist to be somebody who walks around their house nude... Even the concept of an "indoor nudist" is an oxymoron in my book.
