Spont.,
I think we're the only ones that admit to it...(going nude at home). I've been asked that same question numerous times and when I've replied, "sure, don't you?", they always say "no way". Then several days later they always tell me a different story when we're alone. It's usually when the kids aren't home that they try nudism.

Fire,
Most of my friends (mostly textile) have no problems telling me that they get nude at home. Tho' most of my friends either live alone, with flatmates of the same sex, or with their longtime partner (with no kids). May be Aussies are little less sensitve about nudity than other cultures?

FireProf;
The response I get from people when they find out that I am nude at home all the time, is that they wish thay could do it too. I guess a lot of people just have hang ups about it. I have talked to a lot of people on this forum who started going nude at home, after the kids left.

Whats the big deal about being nude in front of your kids? My folks were quite often nude in front of my sister and myself. But I never considered my parents naturists. I would even quite often speak to my mother while she was showering... No big deal.

My experience has been that people are astonished that I'm nude at home. The most typical responses I've had include:
"But aren't you a Christian?" "You can do that because you're not fat." "Ewww... how can you do that?"
Interesting responses, in my opinion.

Melissa,
You may be right, most of my friends are thin non-christians. ;-)

Melissa;
I know what you mean, I have had some of the same responses, but never the one about being a Christian. Mostly I get, "Aren't you sending the wrong message to them?", or "Isn't that embarrassing for them to see you that way?". I think it goes back to people thinking nudists get naked and have sex.

Does that mean nudists get dressed and have sex?

I think unless you are brought up nudist with those values and philosophies, it's hard for a youngster to understand this philosophy when they are bombarded with nudity in a sexual context.
TV, movies, magazines, advertisements, all use the sexual overtones to sell their products and spice up the show. As many have agreed, sex sells. When this method is used, usually the participants in the ad are nude or partially nude. So these kids get the idea that nudity and sex go hand in hand.
I think the U.S. as a whole is much more conservative in their thinking than those in Australia or maybe even Canada. Even though we have many clubs, resorts and beaches along our coast, the thought of nudity raises eyebrows of most and they really have a hard time disassociating nudity and sex.
It took our grown children quite awhile and several talks with my wife and I to get them to understand that just because we are nudist doesn't mean we became swingers.
We have had some of the same responses as a couple that Melissa and Kimberly have had. Some have to do with body acceptance and sexual feelings. Many have stated that they could not be nude in front of the children, so they usually wait until the kids are off for the day and then they can experience the freedom.
I have had a discussion with one close co-worker/friend and he has asked to join us at the beach next summer. He asked his wife and she agreed but "not with the children." They'll have to experience the lifestyle first to see that they really have nothing to worry about concerning the children.

I agree that the US as a whole is much more uptight about nudity than other places. I'm not sure why this is only that I believe it is true.
As to nudity around the house. The wife and I are nude around the house about half the time we have 4 kids and 1 granddaughter. Three of the kids are over 18 years old and one of them is away at school right now. We were nude a bit more often before the older kids got into their teenage years. They suddenly became more shy about their bodies and were quite vocal about not wanting to see mom and dads naked butts, gross naked butts I think is how they phrased it. Anyhow they are a little more grown up about it now but we still are sensative about my oldest son. He seems to have the most problems with nudity. So when he is around, which isn't often as he works full time and goes to school, we are dressed. Otherwise the wife and I will go around as we feel comfortable. Incidently my granddaughter is living with us to and she is usually running around in just here underwear. It's funny to watch when she comes home she runs to her room and strips off everything else. Of course everyone says she gets this from me!! lol

we are most all ways nude here at home, but none of the family has ever been here when we were nude. If that ever does happen then any one of you could hear the fuss being raised. we live in the southern bible belt and we would never hear the end of it. ( they would want to put us in the nursing home )
