There are those unfortunate times when swimwear is required. Drat!!
I was looking into buying a pair of trunks (boo, hiss) for swimming with non-nudist friends. I figured I'd try the nearest store, but looked at their website first.
The trunks looked like something out of the 1920s. We're sliding backwards, not forward. My gosh!! Next thing will be that men's swimwear will include tank-top tee shirts. If my old trunks didn't have a hole in it,I'd stick with them because they're quite short.
People are becoming more and more Victorian, and hysterically prudish. "I saw your knees, please cover them up. Humpf!! Children might see your knees and then require decades of therapy."
I have not shopped for trunks since the 1970s. so I'm way out of date and shocked by what I saw. For the fashions, see this link. I'm not advertising the store. Look around wherever you want, and you might find a better deal elsewhere. This is just a mere sample. http://www.target.com/s/mens swimwear" target="_blank"> br / http://www.target.com/s/mens swimwear

Hi Warmskin...you should look into the tan through suits from someone like Cooltan. They carry different styles (long and short) and the thing I like about it is it is so lightweight, it dries super quick so you are not sitting in a wet suit all day. Plus, they allow some sun to get through for tanning to some degree without being see through. Hope that helps...Rob

I bought some of these for the Prof and I several years ago. They worked ... okay ... but still left us some tan lines at the waist and hems of the legs. The idea was that you moved those parts every so often so those covered parts with extra material would get sun as well. We just neglected to do that.
They are better made these days then when we bought them.

I've had mine a few years now. I wear it for mowing the lawn and at textile beaches. Yes...you still have to move the suit around but I like that it dries so quickly. It's a good option for me when I have to wear a suit.

I went ahead and bought two for a trip we are taking with family. The first part of the trip, the Prof and I will be at Hidden Beach. The second part ... a textile resort closer to Cancun. I'm taking two pair of these tan through suits to do my best to keep the all over tan I'll have from our stay at Hidden Beach!

Warmskin, I posted on another topic here that "budgy smugglers" a local alternative to speedos refer to baord-shorts as "curtains of shame". Sort of appropriate to your dilemma and concerns. Boardies had been getting long here but in the last year they have started getting shorter again. Hope the trend continues.

The trip to Mexico has come and gone. First portion at Hidden Beach ... excellent. WE WILL return!
Second portion was great. Loved being with 1/2 our family but missed the other 1/2 immensely. Saving grace for the textile portion of the trip ... private balcony on our top floor room and those tan thru swim shorts. So lightweight it was close to wearing nothing!
Family like them and thought they looked "cool." So ... I wore them all over the place and even on our excursions. Came home and bought another pair and will most likely buy another.
Brought a pair with me on this textile vacation with friends. Might just slip them on and use the hotel hot tub tonight!

Sounds like you had a great trip FP! When you have to wear a suit...those tan through ones are the best.

The tan thru shorts are very light, the design of mine are a bit poor, thought I was getting blue with some white, arrived here (from the US) white with some blue. Not a great colour for a fair skinned person before a tan. Anyway they are light and seem to work, had them on yesterday when we had visitors in our yard.
Not one comment about board shorts being nick-named "curtains of shame", surprised & disappointed. Thought that was funny. SBN.

Wearing swim suits are uncomfortable. But sometimes they are required . So you have no choice. Even though my wife looks good in a swim suit. we both prefer her without .

RobG, elsewhere on this site you will find a thread about tan-through swimwear. Some of us have tried the Kiniki brand from the UK and are happier with it than most of the alternatives. It is light, dries fast, colourful and well-priced too!

What CalgaryMark said... We’ve had several nudist friends who’ve bought them now and they are all happy....at least as happy as you can be in a swimsuit!
Enjoy the sunshine!
