C'mon folks I don't want to have the distinction of being the LAST person to ever post in this Gunnison Beach forum!!
How was your season and what are your thoughts about Gunnison Beach 2016? I wasn't able to go there as much as I wanted, but I did enjoy the positive change that resulted from the ban on enclosed tents. Some veteran beach goers told me that there still exists a rule about windscreens and tents being placed a certain distance behind the high tide line, they just don't enforce it they say. My hope is that some day they again will.
Anyone have any 2016 stories to share, funny or otherwise? I can't report much because of my limited time there, but I was wondering if anyone noticed the individual who traverses the beach wrapped in a towel? Go figure. Possibly just a normal beach goer who gets cold even on the hot days. Or, seriously, maybe he is a plain toweled ranger? I chuckle because this reminds me of the jokes about what's underneath Scotsmens' kilts!

I was at Gunnison a few weeks ago. It was crazy crowded!!
This was the first time I had returned to Gunnison since my first nudist trip; nearly 20 years ago. It was a bit of a pilgrimage for me. What struck me most is that the beach has become much more diverse since my last trip. A lot more African-American, Indian/Pakistani and Hispanic people.
But the crowd! People almost had to walk over me to get to the ocean!
I didn't see any towel-wrapped individuals. A lot of nude people. And windscreens and tents. That was my least favorite thing about my stay at Gunnison. I don't care about them blocking the view; but it does create a separation on the beach - I just don't like the "distance" it creates between people.
I don't have a story; I pretty much just minded my own business, enjoying being nude in the place where I first discovered social nudity. But at one point, two bikini-clad young ladies in flip-flops walked by me, looking to go for a swim. They were undecided as to where to leave their flip-flops; when one of them exclaimed: "Let's just leave them next to the naked guy!" The other girls laughed, a bit embarrassed; but I didn't really care! I told them I'd keep an eye on their flip-flops; I've been the "naked guy" for a long time!

I have a Gunnison Beach story. We've met 2 other couples at orient beach and have been going to dinner and socializing with them for the last 4 or 5 years. Really nice couples we've grown to really like. One couple has a yearly tradition of going to Gunnison for July 4th. and invited us and the other couple to join them. We flew from BC Canada on july 2nd and met up with them for dinner that night, the beach for the next 2 days and then we took a charter into NYC's east river to watch the July 4th fireworks. What a great time with really nice people. It was our first trip to Gunnison and hopefully not our last. Because we spent all our time visiting with our friends we didn't take the opportunity to meet other beach goers but everyone was polite and seemed to be having a good time.

Has anyone been there this year yet? I didn't get a chance to go for my annual birthday visit yet but a trip is still in the planning stages for July.

I was there this past weekend. I didn't notice anything different from my experiences last summer, so nothing really to report. Ah yes, one thing. The gentleman who serves up mixed drinks for everyone was there doing his thing near the lifeguard shack. Bless him.

Hey Schroder - I guess I need to pay more attention to my surroundings. Of all the times I've been there, I have never seen anyone serving drinks. I'll have to take a look when I get the chance to go. Maybe we were there on days or times that he wasn't.

I was there on Friday and didn't see him. So maybe it's a weekend thing or maybe just once in awhile. When I've seen him he was setup between the lifeguard shack and the water, not far from the clothed area. In any case I believe he does what he does just out of the kindness of his heart.

That's where my wife and I set up...we are usually on the side away from the clothed section and slightly behind the shack. We haven't made any definite plans yet but hopefully in the next month or so.

Does anyone have any idea if the gbnj.us Gunnison beach site will come back online? It's been down for a while.

We didn’t make it last year but my wife and I are planning on going in a couple weeks to spend the day. Hoping for a nice day on the 16th so that I can be there on my birthday. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Never made it because the state of NY wanted to celebrate my birthday! Well...maybe not the whole state...just the County. OK...maybe not the County, but the city of Waterford wanted to celebrate. Alright...maybe it was my Son, Daughter-in-law and Grandson...but that was enough to keep me home. Still planning a visit...just don’t know when yet.

Finally made it this week. With all the rain on the East coast, we changed our plans coming back from VA to get to Gunnison on Tuesday evening for a couple hours. Our original plan was to get there Wednesday morning but it was going to be raining. Short stop over is better than no stop over. May try for one more trip this summer...but we will see.

You're not alone freetobe. I've only been there 2 times so far and the weather is the reason. When storms or showers are in the forecast I don't go because of my driving distance. Hoping for a better August and September and I hope you're able to get there again.
2 things I noticed on my 2 days there - the NPS crackdown on tents continues and nudity in the clothed portion is rampant. There still seem to be a lot of ppl. unaware that enclosed tents are banned and rangers spend time going around telling them about it. I heard their conversations and the rangers are being very polite about it and explaining the situation. They need to be able to see better across the beach and especially need room for emergency vehicles. The nudity in the clothed portion just goes on and on. Granted the clothed area is not marked well enough - not enough signage. I saw they now have red flags high in the air marking the boundry. But it looks like not everyone sees them or doesn't understand what they mean or don't care. For whoever is reading this - if would be helpful if you could check out the area a few times when you are there and explain to those who don't understand where the boundry line is.
