Weekly Report May 5, 2006 Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director Clubs in the News!
This week several AANR clubs received significant attention from the media. First, the Mira Vista Resort, celebrated its opening this week in the Tucson, Arizona area with great fanfare and attention. Dozens of stories (most derived from an Associated Press report) appeared in newspapers and online. You can read CNN’s version here: http://edition.cnn.com/2006/US/05/01/nuderanch.ap/ In Florida, the Hidden River Resort on the state line with Georgia received a nice treatment from The Standard, a community newspaper serving Baker County. You can read that story here: http://www.bcstandard.com/news/2006/0427/Front_Page/004.html Finally, the owner and promoter of Caribbean Breezes, an emerging club in Missouri outside St. Louis had several successful radio interviews on area radio stations. We had an opportunity to listen to one and have to compliment the club on very tactful answers to questions from reporters and callers…even the few who called to voice complaints about the idea of a nudist club in their community (favorable calls outnumbered these by more than 3 to 1). What about your club? Do you have exciting news about a media contact or public relations opportunity? Let us know about it! And be sure to let us know about your plans for Nude Recreation Week so that we can incorporate that information into pitches to media who contact us about the event each summer. (For more details, see Carolyn Hawkins’ report below.) Visit from Captain Jack this Week We were pleasantly surprised to be paid a visit in our offices from AANR’s webmaster, Captain Jack who is enjoying a well deserved vacation. During the visit we discussed a number of ways for optimizing traffic to the AANR.com website, as well as some exciting changes and contests planned for early this summer. Please Encourage Your Members to Vote! We continue to hear from members throughout AANR that they have received their ballots along with the May issue of The Bulletin. Many reported that they have voted. Please help remind members in your clubs that they can be part of an historic event by casting their ballot in AANR’s first ever one-member-one-vote election. Members on “no mail” status can also request a ballot by calling VR Elections toll-free to 800-218-4026 Monday through Friday 8:30-5:00 Central Time; or sending an e-mail to custserv@vres.us Youth Camp Reminder It’s not too late to register for an AANR Youth Leadership Camp near you! The schedule of camps is as follows: Nude U June 9-11 Cypress Cove Nudist Resort & Spa, Kissimmee, FL Ambassadors Marketing Program June 11-18 Cypress Cove Nudist Resort & Spa FANR Youth Camp and Leadership Academy June 18-24 Cypress Cove Nudist Resort & Spa AANR SW Youth Camp and Leadership Academy June 25-July 1 Oaklake Trails, Depew, Oklahoma AANR West Youth Camp and Leadership Academy July 9-15 Olive Dell Ranch, Colton, California AANR East Youth Camp and Leadership Academy July 23-29 Cedar Creek, Pelion, South Carolina Clubs Can Help Support Youth Camps JAANR’s Chair is once again asking clubs to donate promotional items like T-shirts, flying discs, mugs, and other giveaways that can be used as prizes and “goody bag” stuffers to attendees of various camps. Please mail your items to: Judy Grisham AANR Youth Chair 548 Prather Dr. Ft. Myers, Fla 33919 gjgrisham@earthlink.net Personal Foul While we’re on the subject of youth, I thought the following link to an online story entitled “Personal Foul” which appeared in Northwest newspapers might be of interest. Seems that less than 10% of high school coaches report that students shower these days. Tight schedules are a factor, but it seems that an unwillingness to be seen by fellow classmates naked is a prime reason too: http://www.thenewstribune.com/sports/story/5713619p-5116766c.html
