I was wondering why it is that the passwords can't contain any puncuation marks, or "special" characters? With such a restriction in place it makes passwords less secure.

Less secure? Allowing for just letters and numbers that is 36 different characters, so if you use just 5 characters for your password that allows for over 60 million combinations (I think)

I'm sure that I have accounts that are also on Windows servers, and possibly even running an ASP script that allow for for the use of punctuaion marks and "special" characters.

Yes, less secure, the passwords would be even more secure if puncuation marks and other "special" characters were able to be used.

You really think someone would want to hack your account on here anyway? If you want a more secure password just use 16 completely random characters, using both letters and numbers, that should be pretty difficult to guess.

No, but that's no reason not to allow one to choose to use punctuation or special charecters as part of their password.

Actually, sometimes ASP as well as Windows servers don't handle some punctuation marks well, some PHP scripts are the same. Pretty much a non issue really. If you are worried about security use combinations of numbers and letters as well as lower and upper case. Ok back to naturism:)

Well IRC allows special characters and that is the most unsecure method of chat around. So basically, get over it and deal with it.
