Take Pride in Your Hide and participate in the Sixth annual Clothing Optional-Must be 18+, "Take Pride in Your Hide" 5k Run and Walk on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 9:00 AM at the Bar-S-Ranch Nudist Resort, 313 Bar-S-Trail (Hwy.158), Reidsville, North Carolina. Great awards, prizes, refreshments, kegs of beer and T-shirts for those who do participate. (you must be a registrant or volunteer to partake in the aforementioned). Volunteers are receiving special T's this year. If you are a member of the ranch, you may register until Friday, July 28 for the early fee of $20.00. On race day it goes up to $25.00. Some of the money goes to benefit the Monroeton Volunteer Fire Department, who is there when and if we need them and some of the funds will benefit the Ranch this year. If that's not your thing, just join in for a sun-filled, fun-filled day, Naturally. Day fees will apply for entry into Bar-S at 10:00 AM. There will be boat and kayak demonstrations by Don Hege from Great Outdoor Provision in Winston Salem on Lake Wanda, two bodypainters, Scott Fray and Madelyn Greco from Living Brush in Reidsville (who just broke the Guinness world body painting record in NY), and demonstrations by Linda Brooks, director of Vitally Yours Center For Cellular Health in Greensboro, on the rebounder for the health of it (a small mini-trampoline). DJ Bryan Smith (aka Songbear) singer, songwriter/performer, will be spinning tunes on the new sound-system for your listening pleasure. Lisa's cafe will be open for breakfast, a great cup of coffee or two, and lunch. Wine tasting & cheese at 3:00 PM. And for your relaxing pleasure, Monica will (maybe) giving massages, (depending on arrival of husband that's been away for a month). And who knows, there may even be a potluck that night and tunes. Stay tuned! Let's all make it a great day at the Ranch! Run & Walk Naturally, Sunshine & Smiles, Sue & Gary 704-880-4561 Register: www.activezach.com For more info: www.bar-s-ranch.com

I am planning to participate in the Clothing Optional 5K Walk. You may register for the Walk or Run at www.activezach.com and you can get directions at www.bar-s-ranch.com. The resort is about 20 miles north of Greensboro, NC.
As I understand it, participants have free access to the resort and may remain there the remainder of the day
Best Wishes, Jim

Some may be interested in what happened at this Clothing Optional 5K Walk/Run race. There were 178 race participants and as far as I know all finished. Cool at the start of the race and when in the forest almost cold, but slowly warmed up.
Numerous men and women ages 18 - 40 had entered, few if any were members of the resort. Much to my surprise all of them choose to go bare except for running shoes and some hats and a few running bras. Only six or so women opted to wear clothes, all in an older age group but in good shape. The male/female ratio was roughly five to one. The guest runners were well mannered. I was impressed by their behavior and the comradery.
A heavy thunderstorm had hit the area the evening before so the mostly shaded course was slippery, muddy and in places uneven. Some guy ran the 3.621 miles in 15 mins. 24 secs. Impressive cross country running. My Herculean effort was under 57 minutes and I finished in the first 177 places!
Later there was a wine, cheese and food party.
Best Wishes, Jim

Strong work, Jim! Last time I ran a 5K, they had to time me with a calendar.

Thanks for the post, Jim. If I lived closer, I would have enjoyed the wine & cheese...don't to walking/running races at this stage. :) Cheri

Doc and Cheri, thanks for the kind words. My completing the course was unexpected. On July 4th I caused my car to knock me down and then run over my right leg at the calf and then thigh. Two weeks later I inadvertantly put my orthotics reversed in my boots and went hiking. After 20 or so minutes I realized I was in deep trouble and had to crawl on hands and feet to traverse 30 yards of mud and rock because I couldn't maintain balance. I made it out but had no expectation to complete a 3.6 mile walk two weeks later. Some one up there loves a fool.
Cheri, sooner or later I would love to meet you. Perhaps this fall or next spring I could venture into the other Carolina if you have an event in the north part of the state that I would be allowed to attend.
Best Wishes, Jim

Jim, I'm glad your survived the trek. The only time I/we're going to be in the upstate is over Labor Day weekend at Carolina Foothills where I take my Travelites each year for that time.
If you want to venture to the Midlands of your sister state, you are welcome to attend any club events. Just let me know when. Cheri

Cheri, Thanks for the invitations. I have plans for the Labor Day Weekend. Should they change, I'll reconsider.
Best Wishes, Jim
