I didn't see this beach listed in any of the topics so I thought I'd start a thread. Anyone want to comment on North Baker Beach? It's usually where I head to when I'm in San Francisco.

My family and I used to live in the SF Bay Area. We used to go to Baker Beach quite a bit. Anymore its not so much of a family beach. We have three daughters and used to take them there when they were little. Now Baker has become more of an adult oriented nude beach. It is frequented by a large # or voyeurs and men looking for sex. For adults it might be ok still, but I wouldnt take children there. There are many family friendly nude beaches in the Santa Cruz area that isnt too far down the road. Not to mention many nude clubs in the area you could go to.

My wife had to be in SF on business so I left her at the conference and drove around. Found Baker Beach from the World Guide and walked down to the beach. It was overcast and cold so there weren't any nudies out this day.
We both love SF and will return often. Hopefully when we do, we will spend the day at Baker and bring back a full report.
On a side note, when I was station up there in 71-75, I used to drive down the coast to Bonny Doon and met some really nice people at that nude beach.
A few years ago, my wife and I took a driving trip up to Santa Cruz and took in a day at the beach at Red, White and Blue and Bonny Doon. She really liked Bonny Doon.

When we used to live up in northern CA, we loved Red White and Blue as well. It is a nice beach to take your kids to. A good "family nude beach". Also a good surf beach as my hubby is a surfer.

I've heard that Red White and Blue beach is not worth the price of admission. Is that true? Have you heard of Bonny Doon Beach?

Its been many many years since we have been to Red White and Blue. They used to only charge 5 dollars to park. And you could park up on PCH and walk down for free. Has the price gone up? RWB and "4 mile" which is right next to it are what I would consider 2 of the best nude beaches in California. It has been several years since we have been there but they used to be anyway. As for Bonny Doon..if it is still nude it is an awesome beach as well.

Red, White and Blue cost us $7 to park but that was about 4 yrs ago. Not sure what some may want or think about this beach but it was a nice beach.
Can't really give an honest opinion of RWB because the day we visited, it was overcast, not many people there, in fact, my wife and one other woman, young...'bout 20, were the only women there. We sat in the little man made shelters against the short cliffs, they call the condos. We seemed to have a parade of single men walking back and forth by our shelter. My wife began to become a little uneasy but no one bothered us really.
When we left, there was some activity in the park that would turn people away from this place but again, this was a really off day and there was maybe 20 people there total.
Bonny Doon, she loved. Lots of people, lots of couples and some gawkers, but they were all above us in the bushes. It was easy to ignore them. I broke into social nudism at this beach in 1972. I was headed down to Santa Cruz with a shipmate. We came across the cars parked on the side of the road and followed the trail to the beach. Once I saw that it was a nude beach, I went back to the car, got my sleeping bag and told my friend if he wanted to continue onto Santa Cruz, he'd have to hitchhike cuz I was spending the day there!
Returned to BD many times while stationed there til 1975. I just wish it were closer!

7 dollars to park! Thats cheap, compared to our local nude beach of San Onofre!! Its 10 dollars to park there now.

Yup.........$10 dollars! We used to buy an annual pass but don't go as much as we'd like so it wasn't worth it for us anymore. I think an annual pass is $160 dollars!!?
Hopefully our lives will slow down a bit and we can get there more often.

If you go a lot in the summer the pass is worth it. When we go we usually bring RV and make a camping trip out of it. Our 16 yr old goes surfing with her bf there,at least twice a week. My husband will surf there early mornings before work. As a family we get down there about 1 time a month. So the pass is VERY worth it to us.

We just might have to revisit the annual pass thing and maybe it'll force us to go more often!!
Lord knows we can use the exercise going up and down that road!!

I've taken my boogie board several times. That was a real pain in the butt. Ended up letting some kids we know use it. I never got on it, too busy talking to their parents. Can't imagine carting a long board down there under your arm!
We've talked about a BBQ so we could Q up some dinner and watch the sunset. Then I start thinking about carting all that stuff.
I've seen some carts that people take their stuff down with but I think we may buy a wagon in the near future so if we do decide to take all that stuff, it'll be easier!

When we go with the whole family,we always bring the bbq down to the beach. Its a small portable one and not too heavy. My husband carries a HUGE duffle bag up on his shoulder that has blankets, towels, umbrella and all the other stuff we need. I usually carry our cooler..which is canvas and has a shoulder strap. Its a lot to carry,but we are happy when we are cooking steaks right on the beach. A lot of folks use those wagons with those big wheels, we might buy one too, but our current system seems to be ok for now.

Baker Beach is a lot better now. The park rangers patrol regularly on their ATV's, and the knuckleheads are at a real minimum now.
