Desert Shadows in Palm Springs, California, announced that it will undergo an extensive re-modeling and upgrade to its property starting in mid-2007. The 22 room Chapparral Lodge along with the original 11 room Bed and Breakfast and adjacent swimming pools will be torn down along with the original gift shop, check-in and restaurant areas. In their place will be a spectacular clubhouse with a large upscale restaurant on the second floor with panorama windows overlooking the San Jacinto mountains. New condominiums and recreational facilities will also be built.

For many of us who recall Steve and Linda Payne's original small nudist B&B in the early nineties, this expansion news comes with a little nostalgic sadness as well as excitement and expectation of the future. Such grandiose building cannot be done overnight and - - - will stay open for business while the tear down and re-building is in progress.

My wife's first nudist resort experience was in one of the old original rooms at DSI. Much as we enjoyed it, I don't dispute that those rooms definitely need updating. Nice to see various resorts spending the money to expand or upgrade. Business must be good!
