Keep in mind the tan thru suits have some spf. You will not tan as much under the suit, so you will have some tan line. However with some sun under the suit it is easy to even things out when you have the chance. We like the suits for there comfort and quick dry ability. The tan thru is just a bonus.

"Garment Report"
I oredered a coverup from undergear.com (search on 'gauze caftan' at the site) in the ocean blue color shown in the picture. Arrived within about a week of ordering.
Garment is made in India and somewhat more muted in color than shown in the picture. Length is somewhere between a tunic and a nightshirt. Fabric is one-ply. moderaely tight weave and thus generally opaque--you could 'answer the door to greet a textiled visitor' and not have him/her surprised. Texture is a little rough, but no more so than might be expected for a gauze garment. Seams appear to be well sewn. Care instructions are cold water wash and cool tumble dry, 'do not iron'. Garment is 100% cotton. Fit is 'relaxed', meaning order at your size, you need not 'size up' for comfort.
Conclusion: basic coverage at a reasonable price.

I have several tan thru suits and they do work, but as others have said you will end up unevenly tanned. When out camping with friends a year ago, he and his wife were wearing white mesh shorts. When you were close up you could see they were nude under them, but ten feet away you couldn't tell.I asked where they got them and they said Koala Swimwear. The web site shows mens swim suits, if you want to call them that, but they do sell these mesh shorts. I ordered 2 white pair( wife and me) as will as a black pair for myself. The white ones work as I stated. The black ones are a different story. My wife tells me that unless I'm about 25 or 30 feet away I should just be nude, and even then if the lights right they don't leave much to the imagination. We find the white shorts are great if camping or hiking on a weekend where lots of people are around. To date no one has given us a second look. The black ones are best in a more secluded area where people can not get to close. These shorts are very comfortable and as close to nude as anything I've found so far. If your real brave you might even try some of Koalas Swimwear, but I have no idea where you would wear them.

If you or someone near'n'dear are handy with a sewing machine, CoolTan.com also sells their tan-through fabric by the yard. Works great for men's kilts (for jogging or cycling?), native-American-style breechcloth or skirt (for gardening?), or general purpose coverup sarong or pareo. A key advantage of do-it-yourself, especially for guys, is being able to make it all very loose-fitting. The fabric is equal to SPF 6, so to avoid tanlines, you need to adjust tanning creams on exposed/unexposed skin.

Any new updates on these tan thru suits? Thinking of getting one but some of the posts have indicated that they are good at a distance but close up people could see through them. Are they better now? I was thinking the looser fit style would be better. Going on a cruise in Feb. and thinking this is the way to go to get started on my summer tan but I'll be sitting in a chair by the pool right next to family members. I might still get one as it would still be good when I go for a run or working around the house. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks...Rob

Hi Rob, I have a couple of tan-thru suits and they work fine. I've asked for a 'see-thru' check and have been told that nothing is visible, so you're safe in any situation. When friends want me to go to a textile beach with them, that's what I wear - no problem. I highly suggest them for those 'textile moments'. Have a great nude day.
P.S. It is true that you have to remember to move the seams once-in-a-while to avoid tanlines.

I have a few suits from Cool Tan and they not only pass the test for textile beaches I even bought a few for areas around the house where cover is needed. They dry fast, are very lightweight and are comfortable as textile goes. When I ordered they said on the website that if you order larger size then they would look like the dreaded board shorts. The web site also had a clearance area with some great deals at that time. I haven't had the need to visit the site lately but do get a catalogue every year.

Thanks nudewalker. That was the site I was looking at. I didn't see the clearance area when I was last there, but I will look when I go on the site to order.

Yes free2be, I was impressed with their promptness also. I noticed that the clearance area was no longer on the website but I did get e-mails from time to time. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine, the light weight fabric is great in the heat when one has to be covered.

I've already dropped the hint to my wife about a tan thru t-shirt for my birthday. I didn't need one for the cruise as I would be around the pool without a shirt.
