After our visit to Cypress Cove later this month, my wife and I have the opportunity to visit a Tampa/Land O' Lakes area resort. Of the several in the area, which would you recommend and why? Definitely a family oriented experience required.

I can recommend Lake Como, especially since you posted your question under the Family Nudist Resort topics. It's much less commercial than its neighbors, more G-rated.

We just visited and joined - -, I would not say it is as much as a family oriented only because over the weekend we only saw 1 child. It is now under new ownership, that is what we were told and the pool area is where we spend most of our time, the food is great and we are meeting new people and having fun playing water volly ball. They seem to have a lot of activities going to suit everyones needs.

I agree with Cheri's recommendation of Lake Como. I've visited there several times. It's most definitely more "family" oriented. - - is for the younger "party" crowd, as is - -. Lake Como is an older resort, not anything like the upscale - -, but in my opinion, for the Tampa area, it's better suited for families. My guess is that you'll find that Cypress Cove will be hard to beat!! Welcome to Florida John

Naturally since we own properties at - - Resort I'm extremely partial to recommending the place which we live part-time. But selecting a resort is so individual I'd be hesitant to say one place is superior to another. Cheri likes the family atmosphere at Lake Como which may not translate to a young couple seeking nightclub activities at - -.
As you may know our resort neighbors to the south have been sold to a new owner who promises some major upgrades and changes to - -. We heard of plans to build vertically on the clubhouse so a high-end restaurant and possibly a nightclub will be situated on the second floor (didn't we hear this at - - - ?) These and other changes cost mucho money. So far John Forier has sent somebody down to the local Sherwin-Williams paint store and now a Phase I condo has been transformed from a Cape Cod white/blue to the warm Sienna hues of Portofino, Italy. I believe they're going to do something with plumbing and grass next...stay tuned.
Forgive my digression, but with resorts undergoing continuous changes in ownership and management, the only way somebody can discover which one fits their niche in life is to make the bold step of visiting them on your own.
We're friendly; give us all a look.

Since I have been to only one of the Pasco county clubs I can't make a comparison, but for me Gulf Coast Resort in Hudson would be very hard to beat. It suits my needs perfectly. It is very "laid back", the staff does everything it can to provide for your needs, they are definitely family-oriented, the rates are quite reasonable, they have a great outdoor hot tub, and they are pet-friendly. My dog and I spent several weeks there last winter and we'll be returning for a four month stay this winter. We both look forward to renewing the friendships we made last winter.

Having been to all of the resorts/clubs in the Pasco County area (including the Island Group) I would say that I'd have to agree with Cheri. For a family atmosphere, Lake Como is hard to beat. Gulf Coast Resort is very nice, but a little off the beaten path. - - is absolutely beautiful, and is a must see for a day trip, but is very upscale (read EXPENSIVE) and - - is....well....it's - -, no more need be said. If you go to Lake Como, have fun and say hi to Elf.

Lake Como was really nice... an atmosphere that is rustic in feel, or should I say a less commercially developed resort, but extensive grounds, some avid tennis fans playing on quality hard courts, a relaxed, more mature ambiance. Folks there genuinely enjoy the way they are living their lives and are not reluctant to befriend newcomers.
We got rained out of our Cypress Cove weekend, but plan to visit soon ...

We are flying into Tampa heading for haulover in a couple of weeks. Most of the resorts I see and many of you recommend are north of Tampa. Any good resorts south or southeast of Tampa? Would anyone recommend Cliente for first time resorters even though it's in the wrong direction. Looking for ideas! Thanks

My personal preference in the area (19 miles or so) north of Tampa is Lake Como. I would definitely NOT recommend - - for a first timer nor - - even with their new owner. Haulover is one heck of a ride from Tampa. You might be better off flying into Ft. Lauderdale and visiting - - a little bit west.

I know I am resurrecting this thread but I didn't see a need to start a new one for the same purpose.
I live in riverview, just south of tampa along I75. I have been an in home nudist all of my adult life and I have wanted to go to a resort/beach for years. I have been doing some web surfing on the clubs/resorts in the tampa area and have pretty much narrowed it down to Lake como, The island group, and the riverboat nudist club (still keeping an eye out for Terra sol). This is based just on their websites and the things I have heard about the atmosphere at the neighboring resorts.....which don't seem to fit my personality. I would eventually like to convince my wife to go but I am afraid that I may be on my own, at least until my daughter is a year or 2 older (she is 2 now, and I have another on the way). My daughter seems to be a natural nudist, as kids tend to be, so hopefully she will embrace the open mindedness and self comfort that will allow her to be a lifetime nudist.
Obviously I am looking for a family oriented environment that would fit well for an early thirties couple/married-single-dad with 2 daughters. Something with a mix of relaxation, some activities, socializing with others around the same age group, and other kids to play with so my daughters don't feel out of place.
Thanks for the help.

Are you a first-timer visiting Metro Tampa Bay?
Cheri, as noted above, is right: Visit Lake Como. Why? Because, at Lake Como, you get to experience "Naturism" the way it was meant to be.
The grounds are older. In fact, Lake Como is the oldest nudist resort in the USA to my knowledge; hence, it has an old-time history and atmosphere. It's RELAXED! First-timers need that kind of atmosphere.
The members own the resort; hence, it is NOT owned by a businessman or real estate investor trying to hustle money off of a niche lifestyle in the leisure industry. Lake Como is very reasonably priced and will not "bust the bank" when you visit it.
Finally, you can bring either your parents and/or kids to Lake Como without worrying about "an adult atmosphere." The truth be told, under their current ownerships, - - and especially - - are catering to "the adult crowd." Why? Much bigger bucks in doing so. - - and - - are owned, first and foremost, by INVESTORS and not true nudists. These guys are out to make a buck ... and a BIG buck at that. Hence, they are targeting "the adult crowd" which, demographically-speaking, is "where the money is." Sad, but oh so true.
However, both - - AND - - are okay for just about anybody from about 10:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. The "adult stuff" does not crank up until later on. Hence, - - and - - are great during the daytime hours.
Price-wise:
Lake Como is very reasonable ...
- - is semi-expensive ...
- - is expensive.
They're all worth what you pay for. Just be aware of the pricing points.
Finally, it's all an individual proposition: You may LOVE either - - or - - as a first-timer!
However, the first time is enough of a head trip for anyone, so Lake Como would be your best bet as a first-timer, BECAUSE it's so non-commercial, rustic and relaxed.
Cheri is right: First time? Go with Lake Como in the Tampa Area or with Cypress Cove (Hi, Dean Hadley!) in the Orlando Area.
Whatever you do, GET STARTED! Try it! You'll LIKE it!
Happy New Year ... and Peace.

Cheri and Lance are certainly entitled to their opinions about how "naturism was meant to be" but, IMO, neither has the right to claim that their personal opinion is anything more than a personal opinion.
IMO, posters should use "IMO" more often.
For anyone who might not be familiar with IMO, it's the abbreviation for "In My Opinion."

To VLM34:
You are absolutely right, and I agree with you wholeheartedly ...
Yes, I should have said, "... in my opinion!"
Hereinafter, you may assume that any of my comments are "... in my opinion."
I consider myself A Traiditonal Nudist rather than A Lifestyle Nudist. However, I know and like many Lifestyle Nudists. I talk to them often and enjoy their company.
When nighttime rolls around, I go home. They do their thing. Fine with me. It's their resort too. Live and let live. I don't interfere with them, and they don't interfere with me.
To each their own ... IMO!
Thanks for your comment!
Peace.
