Looking to branch out a little this year and maybe head north to Lighthouse beach instead of south to Gunnison for a change of pace. It's roughly the same amount of travel time for me either way. I'm still searching online, but haven't found proof that it is still an official CO beach. Can anyone let me know it's status?

Hi everyone. This is our first post on the forum. We have enjoyed the nudist lifestyle since 2003. We just wanted to join the discussion and offer our observations and opinions. During the week, Lighthouse can be very relaxing. On the weekends, you can barely have room to move as people are crowded quite close. If you walk east, past the Lighthouse itself which is an area for textiles only; there is another area where you can be nude. That beach is Kismet and it is less crowded and more couple-oriented. Smith Point is also a great beach especially to walk naked. We were told that on weekdays you can walk past the clothing-optional sign travelling west without a problem. We love both beaches during the summer months as we both love to beach naked. Parking is easier at Smith Point no matter what time of the day it is, but Lighhouse parking early any day of the week is your best bet.

I never thought that Columbus Day 2012 would the last day I was able to spend time with friends au-naturally at Lighthouse beach. I'm sorry to share this sad news. First the place gets totally trashed by Super Storm Sandy, and now the NPS has discontinued clothing optional use of Fire Island National Seashore.

The news regarding Lighthouse as well as the nude beach west of Smith Point County Park is not encouraging. The hot topic is is that there will no longer be any nude use at Lighthouse, Kismet, or west of Smith Point. According to some published reports, it is because of Sandy and the destruction to the dunes, the rowdiness of certian people that congregate on weekends, lack of law enforcement, damage to the ecological environment by people and by lack facilities (toilets)people peeing in the water or at the waters edge, as well as pressure from town councils opposed to nudity. Supposedly NAC and AANR ar sitting down and trying to hash things out. Let's hope they get it done before beach season.

That is just so sad! Here's hoping things will change and an agreement can be reached to bring naturism back to Lighthouse, Smith Point, and Kismet.
