This was on UK TV yesterday. Quite interesting in a round about sort of way, but no real conclusions, apart from the fact that you can make people very uncomfortable when naked. Even dedicated nudists would feel a little uneasy with some of the things they asked them to do.
(I did record the digital stream directly, but even encoded as DivX it's nearly 500MB. So suggestions as to how to share it are welcome.) SCIENTIFIC DOCUMENTARY: Horizon On: BBC 2 London (102) Date: Tuesday 3rd March 2009 Time: 21:00 to 22:00 (1 hour long)
What's the Problem with Nudity?. Why are people embarrassed about their bodies? Horizon takes a group of volunteers and subjects them to a series of psychological and physical tests to challenge attitudes to the naked human form. Humans are the only creatures that can be 'naked' - but why, how and when did humans lose their fur? The answers may be found in unexpected places: the chest hair of Finnish students, the genetic history of lice, the sweat of an unusual monkey - and may hold the key to the success of the human species.
I encoded it to a 200mb XviD to make easier for sharing - not as good quality as my source DVB recording or even my 700mb XviD alternative, but about the same quality you'd expect of a streaming video file.
It was an interesting documentary. Here you had 8 people who were total strangers and asked to participate in a 2 day study where they would be asked to be nude in front of people that they never met.
Some of the theories in terms of why humans have developed as they have were also interesting.
I think the most interesting part was when they were asked to go outside the building after having spent 2 days in various experiments. Only 6 out of the 8 felt comfortable enough to go outside completely nude.
