Hey everybody! I tan indoors naked and when the summer rolls around obviously I'm naked poolside. Even though I have a great tan all over my body I've noticed my genitals get super dark. Anybody know why this happens?

Melanin?
My genitals (and shaft in particular) have always been darker than most of my skin, even when I was not a nudist...probably before that skin had had more than a few minutes of exposure to the sun in my whole life. It's just a concentration of melanin in that skin and not at all uncommon. Now that I'm a nudist, I'm grateful for it, as it means less chance of sunburn or, god forbid, skin cancer.

I am reasonably fair skinned but the skin on my genitals is darker and more tanned than the rest of me after being in the sun. Over winter this obviously fades but its always a little bit darker.
A friend of mine who is also fair skinned has quite a dark penis, even in winter. He has a number of nicknames in the change rooms as a result.
Question for the doctor, why would there be a concentration of melanin in this area and if not a concentration, why does this happen?

My penis tans much darker than the rest of me. I not a medical person, but could it be that penile skin tends to be a bit thinner than skin in other areas and there is extra skin to allow for "expansion" ??

Mine has been darker down there too even before I was nude outdoors where I could get some sun.

I generally tan very easily and yes my genitals do go several shades darker.
Also because if the angle of dangle ones penis does tend to get exposed more on the top and one side. So you have to be careful that it doesn't end up with a bizarre two-tone tan.

There are certain parts of the body that have darker skin. Genitals, lips, nipples, etc... this is because the skin in these areas are designed for more sensitivity. They are actually a different type of skin designed for being more receptive to touch. The distinguishing feature of this skin is, it is darker. It is also less likely to burn and is usually a little tougher.

The skin is tougher but there are more nerves there to aid in their functions, However the skin is genetically tougher because it is in high use areas. Lips, nipples and genitals are high use areas.

MJ had a disease that turned his skin white. I'm not an MJ fan by any means but I will give him that one. I've got a couple of fiends that have the some problem.
