Subject: Grand Opening Promotion at Eden Bay Resort
Dear Naturist Friend:
As many of you know, over the years I have been sending out periodic updates on the status of Eden Bay Resort in the Dominican Republic and the efforts of its homeowners to restore and reopen the resort.
I'm happy to announce that as we approach our Grand Opening date of August 15, 2003, we are still on track to be successful in our endeavors. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the support you have given us by your continued interest in our progress and your e-mails and letters encouraging us to forge forward.
In appreciation of this, we have striven to develop one of the most attractive accommodation packages for the Grand Opening period from August 15, 2003, through December 31, 2003. Details of this package can be viewed at: www.edenbay.com/promotions/GrandOpeningSpecial.doc or at our website at: www.edenbay.com
I hope you and/or your club will consider helping us by spreading the word of our success and by considering individual or group trips to vacation with us and enjoy what we have fought so hard for against almost insurmountable odds.
I also hope our success will show nudists the world over that the persevering drive of our homeowners has won out against those who would otherwise consider our lifestyle a joke and us as pawns in their game of life.
Again thanks for your continued interest and I know our homeowners will welcome you all with open arms when you come to help us celebrate.
Naturally Yours,
Tom Fernstrom

I posted a trip report on this resort elsewhere in the forum, but it seems that a reply here would be good too. My wife and I have stayed here and had a wonderful time. It was my wife's first experience with social nudity. The facilities are very well kept. Food was great. I highly recommend this resort.
Every day above ground is a good day.

The web site for Eden Bay says that - - is the new facility operator. Has anyone been there since the new arrangements? If so, how was it? I did notice that prices are considerably higher than they had been.

I've sent an email to an acquaintance of mine who lives there.

We recently returned from a week in Eden Bay. We caught them at a slow time, with fewer than 20 guests, mostly middle-aged Americans. While we enjoyed ourselves very much, I must say that Eden Bay is a work in progress, albeit one with great potential. The problem is that the resort has blosed and re-opened with new owners/management several times, and has suffered considerable neglect and decay during the times it was closed. Roughly half of the apartments and villas are currently uninhabitable. Nor are the rental units equipped with air conditioning, which was a serious drawback given the heat and humidity. On the positive side, the pools, hot tubs, and bars were all very nice indeed. The shoreline is mostly quite rocky, with a small area of sandy beach. Snorkelling in the cove is interesting but not spectacular. The food was generally good, sometimes very good. The staff members were very friendly and considerate, more so, IMHO, than their Jamaican counterparts.
It will be intresting to see the changes coming to Eden Bay as - - begins what promises to be an extensive make-over. (I understand that air conditioning is a high priority item. A/C may not matter much in January or February, but it surely would have been welcome this September! I have two worries regarding the upgrade. I'm afraid that the improvements will lead to a price increase - hopefully not an excessive one. Also, if the resort gets popular and fills up, I wonder if the rather smallish beach will be overwhelmed by the larger number of guests.
EB is in the process of evolving. It could potentially end up rivalling the best of the Caribbean nudist resorts. Stay tuned!

Looking forward to more recent evaluations of Eden Bay. Thanks to Doc and others for all of the candid remarks.
I know from my first cousin who was a real estate attorney for Caribbean properties that "tropic rot" sets in very quickly when a property is neglected for a period of time.
