Yep, was there last month for the first time and it was great. Get there early, like 7-8 am because the parking lot (13) fills quickly.

One of the reasons I've been hesitating to go to one of the nude beaches (Apollo & Playalinda) is the lack of parking. If lot 13 is full, where else can you park within a reasonable distance of the beach. It would be upsetting to me to drive 2 hours to the beach, just to have to turn around and go home. I understand that at Apollo, the parking situation is worse.
My family and I went to Ormond beach, where you can drive right on the beach. Parking is almost unlimited, and there are a few restaurants and public bathroom facilities. If Ormond beach went nude, I'd be there all the time.
Has anyone gone to either Apollo or Playalinda and had to leave because of the parking problem?

We were at Playalinda in June. Got there Friday at 10 and lot 13 was nearly full. Got there on Saturday at 9:30 and 13 was full. I left my wife and stuff out at 13 and parked in 12 which was almost full. The walk back to 13 is not bad at all, but if you had to park at lot 11 that might be pretty far (1/3 mile?). One of the parking lots was closed at that time - not sure which one.

You are right - 1/3 mile is not much but I forgot how bloody hot Florida is in the summer. I'm from up north - not used to that heat!

Hi all,
1/3 of a mile comes to 1760 feet, or, a little over 3 city blocks. Not only do you have to walk in the heat, and walk with your clothes on like Diger said, you must consider all the things you like to bring with you: a bag for books to read or a C.D. player; a cooler for drinks and food; towels and lawn chairs to sit on; or an umbrella.
I'm getting exhausted just thinking about it.
Not to mention we're not as young as we used to be.

The nude beach at Lake Mead isn't what it used to be. Lake levels have dropped taking with it much of the sand and small rocks along the waters edge.....got to find a new place.

My girlfriend and I just visited Playalinda on Wednesday, May 19 2010. We were both nude beach first-timers (n00bs) and it was a great first experience! It was great to be able to be out in the open rather than in the confines of a backyard pool.
I'm writing to thank everyone for their info on this forum and to give an update: We arrived around noon and stayed until 4:30 or so. Parking lot was not full but was surprisingly packed for a Wednesday. I'd say there were a few dozen people on the beach at all times. We are in our early 20s (22 and 20) and saw a few other young nudists there. Everyone was very pleasant and mainly stayed to themselves (polite smiles, etc). Bringing a $16 beach umbrella from Wal-Mart was a great decision and complimented the breeze coming off the ocean. Make sure to bring snacks and anything else you need; it is a good ways to get back into town.
A ranger did stroll through to check on things but was very friendly. Waving/nodding to everyone and even stopping and chatting with some of the locals. We were slightly apprehensive driving into the Cape Canaveral area and seeing the "no nudity" signs but were put at ease once on the beach and even more so when the ranger passed without a word to us.
To all first-timers, this was a great beach to start on. No gawkers, no hotels around to make you feel uncomfortable. AND it is a beautiful beach with beautiful dunes. Hope others enjoy it. We'll be trying to make our way back soon. :)
Thanks to everyone who has fought for this CO beach.

Playalinda is beautiful, visited 7/7, Wed, at end of day. The rangers appear to shut the gates at 7 PM. Arrived about 6:30 PM, all the lots except Lot 13, had no or only one car. Only about 5 nude beachgoers there that late. My wife is very shy about public nudity, however with a 5 minute walk, we had the beach to ourselves and she felt free to frolic in the waves. We only spent 45 minutes, but it was very refreshing, water was perfect.
Watch the undertoe, very strong, weak swimmers should be especially cautious.

we need more nude beaches like canaveral national seashore in each state,it like a step back in time when you leave all the motels, shopping plazas and restaurants behind as you pass though the gate and see palms, dunes and sand...
