Here is a discussion to explore what might be included in "the nudist ethic".

Of course, not everyone is expected to agree on every point. But as this thread develops, I'll add the best points to this opening post.

Here is our current best- a list of points regarding the nudist ethic.
  • A nudist is one who prefers to be nude whenever possible while socializing.

  • A nudist is one whose behavior doesn't change simply because people are nude.

  • A nudist is one who has respect for others, and doesn't practice nudism in inappropriate situations.

  • A nudist is one who has respect for others, and doesn't stare, stalk, or otherwise behave in a manner that would cause discomfort.

  • A nudist is one who refrains from using nudism as a sexual opportunity.

  • A nudist is one who shows no overt interest or fixation on body parts.

  • A nudist is one who understands the effect bad behavior can have on everyone's freedom to enjoy social nudism.

A nudist is one who appreciates the freedom from the masquerade of costumes; the pleasure of just being him or herself.

A nudist is one who wears the uninhibited equality of God's clothing.

Nude unto others as you would have others nude unto you. ;)

  • A nudist is someone treats no-clothing as a valid casual fashion choice.
  • A nudist is someone whose first thought, seeing someone else nude outdoors, is that it is indeed a lovely warm day.
  • A nudist is someone whose first thought, seeing someone else nude indoors, is a continuation of what they were thinking about just before.

Some of those little sayings are handy, but I was looking for the actual rules that would identify a bona fide nudist from, for example, an exhibitionist or a sexual thrill seeker.

There are many reasons people like to get nude, many of which have nothing to do with nudism. How would you define what makes one a nudist, as opposed to those other nude people?

How would you describe these characteristics to someone who really wanted to sort it out?

Great idea Admin, have a series of criteron to diffentiate nudists, exhibitionists, etc, so that people know WHY they like to go nude; and it would help people determine whether or not this and other sites are for them.

A nudist is one who is just more comfortable nude, we also love the feel of the sun, the air and the water on our whole body. We are not wanting to show off but through our love and pursuit of the nude life we have met other like minded friends. We are a very accepting bunch and if I may say so a lot of fun.

I think many nudists are those who are just more comfortable without clothes. And the longer you have enjoyed the nudist lifestyle the less comfortable you are when you need to get dressed to "enter the real world" For many who have "discovered nudism" later in life it is not as big of a deal, but imagine for some like my three daughters who were raised in this lifestyle from day one. Never "taught to wear clothes" so to speak...it was just as difficult for them to "adapt" the other way...as it is for anybody to adapt to not wearing clothes..if that makes sense.

Jenn

To this day every member of our family finds it uncomfortable, every single time we have to put clothes on..every time.It is my husbands and my dream to live somewhere...where we would never have to wear clothes again. However other than maybe Cap d'age..(which would be fun to visit, but a little to seedy to live) I do not believe there is such a place.

Hope you all have a great Labor Day naked and safe:)

[This post originated in another thread called Nudism & so called conflicting lifestyles where I was describing the essential difference between swingers and true nudists. For the completeness of this thread it should be included here, so please forgive the double post.]

discretion means knowing how to avoid embarrassment or distress.

discreet means prudent; discrete means separate.

The definition of "nudist" that we tend to support is someone that prefers to be nude in social settings, but balances that with a healthy sense of discretion and etiquette. Therefore, an exhibitionist who exposes themselves to others not expecting it cannot be a nudist. If a swinger has sex in open view at a nudist resort, they have abandoned discretion and can never be considered a nudist. Neither is a swinger who just happens to be nude while swinging where social nudity is the smaller part of the agenda.

They might be a nude person, but not a nudist.

We're not willing to promote the idea that anyone taking their clothes off and behaving sexually is by definition a nudist.

If someone were both a nudist and a swinger, they would have to be interested to keep the two separate, or they would not be a nudist at all. Both nudism and the swinger lifestyle have philosophies of behavior, and each would arguably exclude those who don't practice good discretion and respect for others.

One can be both a swinger and a nudist, but the test would be that you'd never know they were swingers even though you've been nude with them a hundred times. Those that are compelled to share their sexual agenda with everyone who is attractive at the nudist resort are not nudists. They are swingers that enjoy nudity.

Since many define a nudist as a person who at all times keeps social nudity and sexual agendas separate, failure to do so disqualifies one as a nudist in our view. It is the key concept of being a nudist.

ethics of being naked,by the time you have followed 'the rules' you will not be enjoying your freedom of being in your natural state, were does all this bunkum come from? nudists=people in the nude,so what! it's a pity not as many rules are applied to when we are dressed. if you have to follow rules as such, dont go to camps/resorts as such, vote with your naked being, dont go,seek elsewhere! i prefer secluded places, tranquil calm, birds, bees, sea, sand and me! and erm, well 'book 'n' wine!
