I have a chance to get down to Charleston later this month.
I've looked around the forums and couldn't find anything recent. Does anyone have any useful info about the area?
Thanks!

TallTim, Charleston is a neat place to visit with many historic homes and Ft. Sumter. I know not of any nearby nudist venues. Cedar Creek RV Park near Pelion, SC is about 100 miles away. Try using www.nudistparksusa.net.
Happy Nuding.

TallTim: Years ago I visited Charleston and toured the historic homes and Ft. Sumnter as jbscnc suggested. If you can, look for the walking "haint" tour. "Haints" are what that area calls ghosts. My guide led a small group of 12 or so around the city and pointed out places that are supposed to be haunted. It was a fun tour that introduced some interesting historical places along with the handed-down folk lore. You'll love it.
To gain confidence I always heard: "Imagine the person sitting in his underwear." Funny, I had nothing on at all.

Charleston is full of history! Lots of neat architecture, good bars and Ft. Sumter. Not much if any nude spots unless you can find a quiet place south of Charleston at one of the beaches or islands; but I doubt it. You'll have a great time.

OK, this topic seems pretty dead but let me throw in come CPR on it.
There IS a couple of areas in Charleston for nudity. Go out to Folly beach. drive down center street to the only traffic light and turn left. Follow that all the way out to the dead end and a steel gate blocking access to an extension of the paved rd.
The road on the other side of that gate leads to the old coast guard station that Hugo took out on 1989. Follow this paved road out (you will see other people biking and walking down this road)
Continue on this road until it becomes sand and walk over the crest of the dune. You will be able to see the top of the Morris Island Lighthouse. Step out to the beach and turn left. Follow the beach around to a large cement structure. Walk around this structure and around the bend in the beach. You will see a looooong stretch of beach, about a 1/2 mile, long that you may have all to yourself! There may be a couple of other people out there but chances are they too may be nude.
I have been using this stretch of beach for nude sunbathing AND walking around since 2003 and have NEVER had an issue!!
The other end of Folly down at the beach park end is also pretty good but you are closer to people unless you can get down and around the end of the beach from them. Both ends of the island, you may encounter beach strollers, or people jogging or walking for exercise but they usually wont stay long.

Welcome to the site SC! That's something I will have to check out next time I am in Charleston...which will be in July. I hope I have the time to explore it. Rob

Yes free2be,
If you have the time I would definitely suggest checking out the lighthouse in the Folly Beach because you will absolutely love it.
The nice thing is you will have plenty of time to cover up if you see someone heading your direction but I can tell you that the only motorized vehicle that will come down towards you is the Folly Beach Public Safety and they are in a four wheel drive golf cart. They will only take the time to come down there if they've had a report of some kind and need to look into it.
The only other suggestion I make is just use your own judgement when walking up and down the beach in the nude because the SandBar around the lighthouse in off the end of Morris (which is across the inlet) tends to shift throughout the year and there were some years that we went down where the Sand Bar at low tide was a little close to this stretch of beach on Folly. Which means it low tide there will be lots of boats anchoring on The Sandbar and spending the day out there, so just use good judgement if you want to walk around naked. Just try to get further down the beach so that put you a little further away from all the boats.
Another bit of advice is to take plenty of water with you. That way you're not dehydrated on the way back to your vehicle. The earlier you get out to the the turnaround at the gate leading to the old Coast Guard Station the better chance of parking will have. Plus the later you wait to go out to Folly Beach the longer the traffic line is going to be just trying to get on the island so I would suggest trying to get out there by 7:30 or 8 o'clock in the morning.
The we've done pretty much anything we have wanted while sunbathing out on this stretch of Beach and that includes inappropriate adult activities.
