Naturists Association Thailand (NAT) has had a busy year. We have had nearly 12 events and with many attendees, one of our most successful was our first International Naturist Conference held in Thailand. We had 30 attendees from 11 different countries.
A month ago Oriental Village Resort in Chiang Mai contacted us about expanding to becoming a naturist resort. We were excited about the possibilities, as we did not have a member resort in northern Thailand.
There were two NAT members who were respected and long time naturists, visiting Chan Resort the naturist resort in Pattaya, and when they heard of the possible resort in Chiang Mai they wanted to go. We arranged that they would scout out the northern resort and report back. Everything went very well. They had a good time and found the resort clean and acceptable for naturism.
We had further discussions with the resort and an NAT event was scheduled and announced to the members. In planning the details of the NAT event, a visit to the local hot springs was mentioned by the resort, and it was decided absolutely we would visit it.
On Friday our members came from different place of Thailand to Oriental Village Resort. Some members came from Bangkok, Pattaya and the rest from Chiang Mai. Some were old friends and some were people that we would soon be new friends with. There were Thai, French, Belarus, Philippine, American, Danish and Australian members and everyone was in a happy mood.
On Saturday after the breakfast some drove their motorcycle and the rest loaded into a Songthew (a Thai country Taxi type bus) and off we went to the hot springs. WE had already decided that we wanted to have one big room for all of at once. There were two big rooms number 6 and 7, both had a toilet, and we decided on number 6. The cost was 300 baht an hour, a very fair price by all concerned. Some NAT members had bought local homemade soap and body scrub at one of the vendors and shared with all. There was a lot of laughing, scrubbing, joking, and splashing had by all. The water temperature and level is adjustable by a big hot or cold faucet.
After the soak in the hot springs some members opted for a foot massage, and some went off to see the geyser and tour the grounds which were park like with many Thai families.
After returning to Oriental Village Resort the remainder of the day was spent around the swimming pool sunning, reading, playing pool games, or getting a Thai massage for only 300 baht. Later some retired to their bungalow for a nap before dinner.
The Thai dinner was served family style with at three dishes and a creative ice cream for dessert. After dinner there was great conversation, sometimes in many languages.
The sunset was beautiful with the nearby mountain as a backdrop. The weather was clear and a bit cool for those of us that lived in southern Thailand, but very comfortable. And the sunrise proved to be just as spectacular, in the crisp morning with the dew clinging to the small plants and flowers.
Sunday was another day at the pool to finish our books, games and for those of us that needed to get rid of our tan lines.
Those of us that were returning to Bangkok planned to go shopping in the Chiang Mai Weekend market, which is full of crafts and art of all kinds. Chiang Mai never disappoints with its selection of goods. The other market not to miss is the famous Night Bazaar.
The Oriental Village thought that the first naturist event in Chiang Mai was so successful they have planned and schedule a second one for 14 December 2012. I am sure there will be more events through next year. Naturism has taken root in Thailand and Southeast Asia and will continue to grow and mature.
