Lake Como advertises itself as clothing optional. We're interested in visiting, but it's a 1500 mile round trip for me and I don't want to make that trip unless I know for sure that most guests will be nude most of the time. Does anyone have any insight into the nude vs. clothed ratios, in the resort overall and at dinners and dances?

I totally understand what it is you're looking for and what you want in a club/resort but ... we try and not let what others do, dictate what we want to do. On our first visit to Club Orient, it was the first time we had ever danced nude together in public. Dancing nude at home almost always led to sex and we were concerned about the arousal aspect and it happening at Papagayo. Well ... it didn't happen and it was great to have that freedom.
Many of those at Papagayo that night were wearing sarongs, short and long, but we had left ours on the chairs and then more and more people began returning to the dance floor naked until everyone there was naked and dancing. I think you just have to do what it is you want to do and not let other set the tone for what it is you feel like doing. A nude or clothing optional club/resort is just that and there is NO set rules for visitors/guests/residents to wear something sometime and wear nothing only on certain times or in certain places.
I do understand how you and your wife might feel being only two of several people naked in certain areas of a nude/clothing optional resort but if that's what you both prefer ... remind yourselves that those clothed at a nude resort are the ones that are out of touch and over dressed ... you are never "underdressed."
Loves being naked. Plays well with others!

I think the days of walking into a nudist resort - and being around only nude people from the front gate to the back of the pool area (sometimes because it was actually mandated)- belong to a bygone era. These days, except for a few rustic/old school resorts that encourage everyone to be nude (my personal choice), C/O is widely accepted as the norm - although its actual practice will still vary from resort to resort.
I've never been but I've read some good reports on Lake Como. It seems nudity is widely practiced there; at least within the pool and lake areas. But I've also seen pictures of Lake Como events where there were clothed and sarong'd people. I would expect to see that at a large venue like Lake Como.
I'm with Fireprof's philosophy on this. You can't control other people's "nude attitude." But you can control your own. I developed my "nude attitude" in my family resort days, by simply locking all my clothes in the car and leaving them behind, literally and figuratively. At that point it didn't matter who was covered, wearing a sarong or a t-shirt in or around the resort. My fam and I were nude anyway. Nothing and nowhere to hide. When you have that approach, it does take the pressure off not knowing who else around is going to be nude or not. But if you do find yourself annoyed or discomforted by a textile/covered presence, you can always distance yourself from them and congregate with other people who also prefer being nude. There's nothing wrong with practicing your preference either.

All you can do is just set an example yourself at any given resort. Our family is completely nude all the time whatever resort we are at. During the day, at night, all the time. No wraps, t shirts , or the like. After a lifetime of attending many different nudist resorts it still BOGGLES MY MIND ..how many people are in some state of dress! There are however different resorts that tend to skew more towards people who like to "actually be naked" vs. the weird "half dressed, semi-nudist crowd" Depends where you are looking. US or other?

Jenn,
Aside from our trip to Club Orient, we're new to nude resorts. We truly enjoyed the 24/7 nude attitude at CO and have been searching for the true nudist resort online. Other than White Tail in VA, all resorts have some exception for dining, dancing or special events. I like the example you're setting and hope to follow in your footsteps.

In my experience the "rustic" resort tends to be more pro-nudity. As I mentioned in my previous post, I developed my "nude attitude" early into my resort-going days. At a rustic resort. When I found out that nudity was allowed everywhere on the resort grounds and beyond the front gate at BA, I naturally just opted to leave all my clothes in the car in the parking lot. I wasn't trying to be a show off or demonstrate "superior nudism"; I felt I was just being a practical nudist. I was lucky enough at the time to have a wife who felt the same way; so we always checked in the front office already nude - and stayed that way the entire day. When we visited other resorts/clubs, we always carried that same attitude - sometimes even disrobing before checking in for the first time (if it was allowed). No reason to be covered at any point - weather permitting.
I try not to pass judgment on the covered if I don't know why they are covered. Me...I'm just gonna be naked regardless. Hopefully, in some small way, I can pass my "nude attitude" on to someone else.

We have been to nudist resorts like White Tail Resort, Cedar Creek, Serendipity, Sunny Sands where everyone or nearly everyone was nude all the time. There are additional resorts where total nudity is also the norm. A few people might wear a sarong in cooler evening weather. What we have seen is that most people can hardly wait to shed their clothing once inside the gate, and whine about getting dressed when it is time to leave. It is our same procedure at home. Unless it is too cold to be comfortable we strip as soon as we get home as a matter of comfort. Hope you can find a nudist resort without having to travel 1500 miles. Most likely you can.

Interesting that blavan includes Cedar Creek visitors as being nude most of the time, but their website doesn't even mention nudity. If it wasn't listed here and I ran across it by accident I wouldn't have even thought it was a nudist park. White Tail site is very specific about nudity and Serendipity site indicates that nudity is required except for dinning and dancing. Thanks, blavan, for your contribution to this post. I now have three on my bucket list!

I went to WTP and liked it. Actually it was my first resort experience so I have fond memories.
But Cedar Creek really impressed me. I went there with a couple of friends who were members there. When we pulled up in the parking lot our friends disrobed and told us we needn't worry about checking in dressed. So we disrobed as well and followed them into the front office.
And we walked in and found that everyone in there was also nude - including the owners! The wife greeted us; we chatted while filling the paperwork, and I could tell my wife was very comfortable - even reassured - with the nude introduction/interaction; which was a huge plus. We then walked out to the pool area; everyone we encountered that day, from the pool area to the residential area, was nude. We just had an awesome time there as everyone was really friendly; and the completely clothesfree experience just made it that much more awesome.
I heard Serendipity is an even more awesome place - from people who swear that it's just the best resort ever. But I was told by a friend that it's also C/O; and that the kids there often remained covered. It was mostly because I didn't want my daughter to be the only "nude kid on the block" that I never went. I just didn't want her to feel out of place or uncomfortable about her nudity.
But there you go; between all those options, you can't really lose!

On a side note and speaking of "nude greeting"; my wife and I just got back from LOTW. The resort is a co-op, and the people at the front desk rotate. Some women work the front desk in a sarong; others do it naked. The lady at the desk yesterday was one of the "naked ones." When we arrived she recognized my wife and started chatting with her; and that "personal touch" is one of the reasons LOTW is my wife's favorite resort. The interaction made her immediately comfortable and put her in a "naked mood." Sometimes she will wait to get to "a good spot" to undress; but yesterday she opted to undress right away when we returned to the car, and walk to "our spot" naked.
To get back to the original topic; "nudity begets nudity." My wife and I were not the only ones who elected to be nude right away - and be nude everywhere on the resort. As other people arrived, interacted with the nude greeter, and saw that everyone else was also naked; they all stripped off pretty quickly. As a result, and even though the resort is technically C/O; 99% of the people there were nude. There was one small exception: one lady that was sitting next to us and would occasionally wear a shirt - clearly only for protection. When the sun started "hiding behind the trees", she also chose to stay nude.
LOTW is one of those resorts that is "technically C/O"; but in reality most attendees are naked "all the time everywhere." How much did the "naked lady behind the desk" have to do with the prevalence of nudity at the resort yesterday? It's hard to quantify or qualify. But "first impressions" will play a lot into how nude a resort is.

im not sure i've been to a nudist resort that everyone is nude all the time even if they advertise it's a nudist resort not clothing optional as weather , woman's issues heck maybe guys issues but the ones that are true nudist resorts - camps encourage you to be nude and im ok with that. when i arrive at camp i get nude at my vehicle and leave my clothes there as that's why im there to be nude if its cold out i probably won't be there even though a few times i've gone to soak in the hot tub and yes clothes left in car as the hot tub will warm me up.

I am not saying you can't wear a wrap or something at certain times for certain reasons. What I am saying is we are not CO. So you have to be nude with us if you want come here.

One of the down sides of living in Alaska is the lack of nudist resorts! Guess I will have to be happy living on my own little 'resort' and a friend that is of the nudist mind set!

Correction to my previous post: I was mistaken. LOTW is actually a "nude mandatory" resort. It wasn't until I went to the website FAQ that I saw it mentioned. I never realized it because I never heard or saw it "enforced." And I've been to C/O resorts where everyone was naked "everywhere and all the time"; so sometimes it actually makes very little difference. Obviously, I couldn't tell the difference either.
Either way, "unenforced nude mandatory" works out well for us. When my wife walks through the resort to the check-in, and sees that everyone is naked; she feels more confident and comfortable getting naked right away when we get back to the car. But then again she is at a "stage" where she is ok staying naked "the entire time and everywhere." She certainly did not feel that way at the beginning; and so she had to "work up to it." So it's obviously not the best option for reluctant spouses/shy first-timers.
But personally I love it.
