I've been to a club that officially didn't allow clothing in and around the pool and hot tub. If a lady is menstrating or knows she's getting close and chooses to wear shorts, "just in case", do most places look the other way knowing without asking and allow her to enjoy the company?

Dave, For the most part yes. There are some nudist nazi-like folk out there though. If your friend is expecting her period, she can always wear a tampon (with string cut short - that's what I did) and no one will know. If she doesn't wear tampons, shorts or bathing suit bottom would be appropriate. If some insensitive jerk asks why, she can always say it's a medical condition if she prefers not to announce it.
Hugs, Cheri

She's very head strong and if someone confronts her on it, she might tell him in "VERY GREAT DETAIL" why and ask if he'd like to confirm. She doesn't use tampons. Still a virgin. She's saving herself for marriage.

I think most people at a nudist resort make the assumption that if you're a woman wearing shorts or a swimsuit bottom that you are menstruating. I can't imagine someone bothering to ask about this. If they do, they deserve to hear in very great detail about it!
BTW- using a tampon doesn't take away your virginity, from what I understand. It often doesn't even break the hymen. Other activities such as horsebackriding may break the hymen if it's that fragile.

Good for you Melissa, I consider this topic personnal. I better not get any questions about if I am mesntruating or not. Like Cheri I use tampons, with the string neatly tucked away. Its my business and no one elses. I notice a lot of women wear bottoms during their time, I can not imagine some one as to be so rude as to make rules against women like that.

There are various reasons why for some women, a tampon is not always desirable, comfortable, effective, or even medically desirable. I think it should be one of those "don't ask, don't tell" issues.
There is a minority (mostly men), who want to enforce A/N rules in these situations (e.g. http://groups.msn.com/TheGrandLidoVisitorsHangout/ancodiscussion.msnw), even suggesting women should "go to the other side" of a mixed resort at their time of month. Strangely enough, these seem to be the same people who have no problem wearing hats, sunglasses and sandals to preserve their own comfort!
Cheers!

Though I am not a woman...and have no experience with this subject personally, I am married to a woman and get her side about this subject from time to time.
My wife would rather stay away from the beach or resorts during this time. She would rather be completely nude than to wear a bottom during this time and focus attention to her. I tried to change her mind, but she's pretty hardline on this one. I guess I can live with her not wanting to venture out to nudist places for those first few days. When it is possible to wear a tampon, she does and will visit the beach or resort.
Can't and shouldn't complain...she goes with me and enjoys nudism and that's what's important.

My little one ( 16) wants to know what happens to the tampon in the water. Does it not swell up? I do not know what to tell her as I have know idea. I would think that it would be fine in the pool or lake. Oh yea if I am saying it wrong. I am talking about the one that goes inside with the string.

I know for a fact that it will swell up and clog up sewage systems. Try this, unwrap one and put it in a big pot of water. Leave it there and see what happens. You'd be shocked by what happens to a maxipad if left in water. Ladies, please! Don't flush either product down the toilet!!!

Hillbilly,
My little one (15) had the same question. From what we read and from what I though, it just conforms to your contors (Well, if your a woman, HER contors if your not :). But since I have never worn one and she hasnt gone swiming with one in we dont know for sure if its still Comfortable.
Ladies?

I can recommend that women don't go swimming with the old fashion sanitary napkins. They do disintegrate. Some of the new ones like Always brand don't disintegrate that way. Tampons generally will swell just to the contours of the female's body (right one papabare). I seem to remember that I needed to change tampons as soon as I got out of the water, that it swelled a bit more than would have normally. The water pressure generally prevents any or very much flow.
If you're on a septic system (such as I am), I can recommend not throwing anything other than bodily excretions and TP & tissues into the bowl. If you're on a city sewer system, they are generally accepting of tampons, but not the plastic applicators, only the cardboard ones.
Hugs, Cheri

I'll speak here, though this one is a kind of touchy subject. I have worn tampons swimming and it's no big deal. If it's a heavier day I need to change to a fresh one immediately after getting out of the water but on lighter days all is well. For me, I tend not to swim much on the heavier days anyway. How's THAT for too much information???

Well Melissa, me being a single father of a teenage with no active mother in the picture I definitely don't think it was TMI. The more info the better (Well, ok I can see where there CAN be too much info :)
Thanks for the info ladies, much obliged

Cheri, I work in an 11 floor hospital. More than 50% of the employees are women. More than 50% of our clogged toilet calls involve either tampons or maxipads. One doctor's office we take care of totally clogged the entire building's sewage system with such products. It's best just to throw such things in the garbage. Seem to remember someone on this board is a plumber by trade. He could probably attest to this as well.

Melissa your right, I always change tampons after a swim, and I do not have a problem with them while swimming either.
