I like a nude stroll on the beach as much as the next person. However ...

"He said they found the 20-month-old child sunburnt and covered in mosquito bites, two miles from a Ford Explorer that was left running.
Johnson said the parents were found hours later and several miles from where the child was sitting."

"said they believe drugs were involved in the incident" Ya think. Lucky the child is alive.

"...they believe drugs were involved." Great detective work. Interesting that this makes the pages of USA Today, but not the burned corpses found in Texas.

"The parents were arrested and charged with child desertion and obscenity, KATC-TV reported."

I agree entirely with the child desertion charge. But the obscenity charge? Who were they being obscene to if there was no one else on the beach?

Agreed ... complete and total idiots for what they did to that child. But simply being naked and with no one else around ... "obscene?" ... hardly.

Loves being naked. Plays well with others!

I wonder if nudism will take a hit because of this. If these "parents" were found jogging while clothed, it might appear differently. Perhaps I'm being hyper-sensitive to bad publicity for nudity.

The word, "obscene" or "obscenity" was used by the clever constables. That depends on who is doing the viewing. We would not see nudity as obscene, but the textile-obsessed Americans do.

Whatever the case, the parents will deserve what they get handed to them by a jury and judge. They took their drugs with a sober mind, knowing that they were going to a beach with their baby, thus they did what they did with aforethought. They disgust me thoroughly, and for obvious reasons. Let's hope the jury and judge think the same way.

“I rise early almost every morning and sit in my chamber, without any clothes whatever, half an hour or an hour, according to the season, either reading or writing.”
Ben Franklin

some people just don't needd to be parents. the other day walking into wally world they had a sign post " don't leave children unattended in car " i thought - they need a sign for common sense ? these people are perfect examples as why the sign is needed.
