Sorry for the late report, but my wife and I had a great time at Club Orient. Except for a few trips off site we were able to be naked 24 hours a day. The unit that we has was half of a duplex and it had everything that we needed. Some people cook all of there meals in there units. We only made breakfast and som e lunches. We ate dinner most nights at Papagayo's and two nights we went into Orient Bay and had dinner at Le Piment. All of our dinners were top shelf! The 2 minute walk to the Boutique made it easy to get the fresh French pastries in the morning. You had to be there a 8 AM when the door opened as there was already a line and if you were 7th or 8th online there wasn't much of a choice left.

Ahhh yes, the line for fresh pastries at L'Orientique! I thought they had an order sheet you could fill out and thus, have exactly what you wanted the next day? They did in 2009, our last time there. By the third day, one of the young ladies already had it filled out for us each morning We just walked over and picked it up after the rush! She remembered us because we were the ones with all the kids! LOL

"Leaving the compound," as a friend usually says, is difficult to do. When you are used to being naked for hours and hours, or even days at a time, putting on clothes is difficult to do. The Prof wore sundresses and flip flops and I wore lightweight shorts, flip flops and t shirts or Hawaiian print shirts. Nothing under either of our coverings to still feel ... Free! But we loved eating in Grand Case and in Marigot. We always accompanied our other friends to new places they'd find and we've eaten at some pretty outstanding restaurants. The Prof loves the crowds and Open Air Market in Marigot and shopping in Phillipsburg. I can always find a nice boardwalk bar to sit and have a beverage and people watch while she and her friends shop.

Studio units are great as long as you have good "slab mates". We were always lucky to have quiet neighbors. Some of our friends stated that they had some "slab mates" that were inconsiderate and noisy at all hours of the day and night. One of the reasons we didn't care for TV's in the rooms. We never used ours in all the times we visited. #22 was/is our favorite. Sitting on the front patio, you've got a nice view of the beach and water and a path to the beach between two Beach Chalets.

Loves being naked. Plays well with others!

I didn't know about placing orders in advance until almost our last day. We didn't eat pastries everyday.
You bring up a point about "slab mates". The walls between units were very thin and for our last 4 days a young
couple came and they slammed every cabinet door and made most of their noise during the night.
There was also the problem with the front doors. They stuck, and so I had to put my shoulder to it to get it opened and then slam it to close it. This apparently was a problem with many units.
It would have been nice to have some friends there with us, but we actually don't have any nudist friends --- yet.

There was a couple that visited every year when we were there. They usually arrived before us by a couple of days. We never realized that they would always go to the front desk and ask if we were visiting at that time and if we were, if the front desk could put us in the Studio unit next to theirs. After three years, we got to talking and they confessed that they'd asked for us to be slab mates because we were so quiet. hahaha

Problem was that the unit they always picked was way in the back and we wanted to be closer to the water so we requested a move, # 21 or 22. They were not thrilled that they would get some pretty noisy neighbors from then on but they always liked the furthest unit away from everyone and seemed to end up with less than desirable neighbors.

Club O is always even more fun with friends. We were fortunate to make many during our visits. It's our hope that our group of nudist friends will want to visit Club O in 2018. A return trip this year would be difficult. We have a few big trips planned this year already.

Loves being naked. Plays well with others!

As you know, Club Orient has been closed since St. Martin was devastated by Hurricane Irma last year. This announcement appeared on the Club O Facebook page today.

Dear Friends,

For those of you who have been following our postings online or read the emails we have previously sent, what we’re about to say should not come as a total shock. But, please read it carefully and understand the following only affects Orient Beach Club (OBC), which employs all of the staff and operates the resort. The Copropriété (Copro) which owns the land on which Club Orient is built and is similar to an HOA is responsible for the vast majority of structues.

OBC received its insurance money in full on October 31, 2017, which included business interruption insurance. It has now been over a year that OBC has been waiting for the Copro to receive its money, so the rebuilding can begin.

OBC has had to pay “chomage partiel”, which is similar to unemployment in some countries, but different in that the company must pay out 85% of an employee’s actual wages and is reimbursed at only a percentage of minimum wage rates. This form of unemployment has been a very expensive proposition.

We were comfortable doing this as the Copro believed we would have at least some of our units ready for the high season starting in November/December. This prognostication, unfortunately, has proven not to be the case.

Even if the Copro was to receive their money in October or November, they could not complete any of the necessary rebuildings and repair until Summer or even longer. OBC cannot afford to continue to operate while missing two full high seasons, last year and this coming year.

OBC expects to be legally closing its doors over the next thirty days with the assistance of a government liquidator. We have just about completed contacting all the people who still had advance deposits on hold for a future stay. To all of you who were kind enough to donate them or delay asking for their return, you are a big reason why we have been able to continue to survive this long. Thank you very much for your help.

Now, does this mean Club Orient is finished? NO. It merely means the management company OBC, which is the employer and operator of the revenue-producing areas is closing.

Once the Copro receives its funds and the re-building commences, a new management company would have to emerge to operate Club Orient. Hopefully, most of the same staff will still be available and return.

Once again, the only reason OBC must close is they have no resort to manage and no way to continue to pay the staff without revenue being generated.

So, this is a very sad time for all of us, many of us have given years and often decades of our lives to Club Orient as employees. Most of us have never felt like employees, but more like being a part of an extended worldwide family.
We cannot predict what will happen next, as we will not be involved. We know the Copropriété is continuing in its efforts to re-build Club Orient and has contracts in place, once the legal and insurance issues are resolved.

Our website and Facebook page will remain up for at least the next few months, and we have listed an email address to be able to contact a representative of Club Orient who is on the island.

Thanks to all of you for your support over the years and we have missed seeing you this last year. We are heartbroken this mess has not yet been rectified and hope that the Copro will be able to rebuild very soon, so we can once again welcome all of you back to paradise.

Au Revoir...

Makes you be grateful for what nudist resorts we have. One or two of them might be gone in minutes. Club Orient joins with Harbin Hot Springs in the terrible realm of sudden destruction.

Rebuilding will be quite naturally slow and cumbersome. If only ... these places could be rebuilt as quickly as they were destroyed.

Reading other folks' reports over the years about increased 'vigilance' by the police, I wonder if 'the authorities' will use the destruction and delay rebuilding as an excuse to prevent re-use as a naturist resort? I hope not, OB has been on my bucket list for a long time. I don't want to kick the bucket before OB re-opens!
