Posted - 03/04/2008 : 11:16:29 PM Im in a strange (to me anyway) position. I need to tell my family I am a nudist and been thinking of ways to do it. my mom is one i am not sure how she will take it, grandmother may try to turn it around on me somehow, one uncle wont care either way the other would most likely join me and then theres the others who are extremely judgemental. My thoughts are to tell my uncle who will most likely join me and have him help explain. any other ideas?

Posted - 05/15/2008 : 12:57:58 AM Meaning no disrespect but trying to find a smile here, Can we do something along the lines of "50 ways to leave your lover..."
"Fifty ways to show you're a nudist..."
Just drop the pants, Hans Lose the tan lines, Heinz There are 50 ways to show you're a nudist
Pull out the AANR card, Bart Suggest a skinny dip, Rip There must be 50 ways to show that you're a nudist
Read an issue of "N", Sten Lose the shorts, Mort There must be 50 ways to show that you're a nudist...
Ditch the bikini, Mimi Forget the trunks, Monk There must be 50 ways to show that you're a nudist
Sleep in the buff, Ruff Entertain bare, Blair There are 50 ways to show that you're a nudist
You must be better at this than I am...please contribute...;-)

I would love to see this guy try to put on a swim suit ontop of a regular suit before taking off the regular suit without removing the swimsuit.
how would you go to the bathroom with out droping your pants enough to qualify for partial nude?

fireprof, it is really more his personal preference than anything. i mean unless there is some teaching aganst non sexual nudity that im not aware of.
The key here is the term "non-sexual nudity" Many people, both Mormons and non-Mormons, will interpret ALL nudity to be sexual. I used to work for a guy who was a Mormon Bishop and he was dead-set against Any kind of nudity. Although he didn't expect his employees to be Mormons, he thought less of those who didn't adhere to Mormon principles. He also gave fellow Mormons preference in hiring. That's what goes on in the real world. |

Posted - 05/12/2008 : 12:39:38 AM Sorry to go a tad off topic but I've got a question...I hope you can try and ask.
What is it in the Mormon teaching, if any, that discourage or disapprove of nudism?
We had a landscaper, who is mormon, do our entire backyard. I tried to be general, in nature, about why we needed lots of landscaping on one side of the yard so we could have complete privacy. He wasn't getting it...so I just told him...my wife and I are nudists, we enjoy our backyard without clothing and do not want to upset or embarrass the neighbors.
We never saw this guy again. He always sent one of his partners to do the talking, negotiating and completion of the job. He'd been here each and every time til I told him about us.
Just curious if was a teaching or just his personal preference not to deal with us nudists! |

Posted - 03/07/2008 : 5:41:39 PM You don't "need" to tell your family. You may WANT to tell them though. My daughter and her partner were togeather 5 YEARS before she told my parents and I. They wanted to have a rather large public ceremony which they wanted us to attend which gave her the NEED to tell us.
Bob Have a nice NUDE day !! |

Posted - 03/07/2008 : 1:54:42 PM Nudistmormon, I don't know if you have seen the mention of it elsewhere on this forum, but there is a web site relating to LDS and skinnydipping http://www.ldssdc.info/. If you haven't checked it out, you might look at it. I only saw the home page, but it looks ok.

Posted - 03/06/2008 : 8:49:02 PM for me the biggest concern is the heart attack factor, im not sure who will be so shocked by seeing it with no warning that they have a heart attack (with my familys hearts its really a possibility.) i think my mom has suspected i am a nudist for a while because when i was a teenager i thought of the human body and nudity different so nudity had no effect on me. Knowing my mom Id be able to tell her and she wouldnt think much of it.

I don't have time to read all the other posts today to see if this has been said in one way or another yet, but here's my feeling on your situation:
Why? I mean, why bother? Everyone doesn't need to know everything about you. It would be nice if more people were open-minded about some things, but most people are not. If you think it would be awkward or worse, don't put yourself through the pain. If it will damage or limit your enjoyment of the practice, don't tell. Some members of my family know, some don't. Some don't have a problem, some think I'm a freak. All say they would or could never do it. There are a billion things that others don't know, don't need to know, and will never know about me.
There's nothing wrong with you having something that you enjoy that they don't know about. As far as I'm concerned, we don't need to "convert" the world to our practice of social nudity. We just need to be left alone to enjoy it unmolested. Our behavior and our good example are the best ways of getting more people comfortable with us and possibly with trying it too. If you fear being accused or ostracized by your family, I feel they're not the people to engage in a confrontation with about it. There's nothing wrong with your enjoyment of being nude. There's no prohibition of nudity in the Bible. If that's what your faith is based upon, don't let "experts" tell you differenty.

Posted - 03/06/2008 : 2:23:06 PM If someone walks in on you nude, there are all sorts of humorous ways to deflect the tension.
- "I haven't got around to deciding what to wear yet -- do you have any suggestions?"
- "Yes, well, my new girlfriend took my clothes to sew up all the torn parts."
- "The judge told me I can be nude at home."
- "Some friends want to go skinny-dipping this weekend, so I'm a just practicing."
- "The whole apartment complex just went clothing-optional, so I'm trying to fit in."
- "Mom refuses to come over to do my laundry" or if it's your mom who walks in "Whew! You've finally come to do my laundry!"
Overall, like all things with family, it is always more traumatic worrying about stuff than afterwards when you find out that everyone adjusts. As noted by others, there is no particular reason for a "public confession" but rather just to continue to be normal, nonchalant, cheerful and non-defensive when they ask or find out. It can also be useful to have few "reasons why" handy -- you've probably seen The Naturist Society's "205 Reasons". |
