Secret Russian River spots -
I have discovered several spots to nude around the river with a minimal chance of discovery. Not just the "cruising" areas either! I would like to compare notes with others.
Odd Fellows bridge, Steelhead, Wohler and beyond.

UPDATE MAY 2013>>
It seems SanFranciso Bay Guardian has seen fit to use (plagerize??) my research here to write there article for their Nude beach Guide, and get some serious facts very wrong. I feel I need to set the record straight.
Concerning Oddfellows Bridge Rd,
Back in 2005 I reported I found what appeared to be an abandoned meadow to sun in. I was wrong , as on this very forum the long term owner corrected me, and I retracted my recommendation, and stated such.
There is no "dispute", regardless of what the SFBG may wish to imply. I hope they actually do the same research I have, that is to actually travel to these places to VERIFY your information, or more bluntly, do your job, Mr. Journalist.
That being said I have discovered, and groomed some new amazing spots in a area regularly used by the public, on county land, with easy access and seclusion. Good sand, good swimming, shade if needed.
I will not give any more info about my new discoveries directly on this forum, but members can contact me, we'll discuss and arrange a meeting, and I will personally meet and guide you in. No, I won't blindfold you, or force you to swear a crazy oath, I just want these beautiful places respected.

I used to camp in the area as a teen from '92 to '95 and always saw scattered pockets of nudists or an occasional topless chick while canoeing from River Bend to Johnson Beach. I've recently been able to return to the area a couple of times in the last year and my curiosity of nude spots in the area has resparked, my first Google search brought up this forum and I'm surprised there's nothing official. Anyway, when I have a vehicle again and am able to get to the area from Oakland I'll be keeping an eye out for logistical C/O spots. |

Oddfellows Bridge Update:
R.I.P. Oddfellows Bridge,
the beach has washed away, the willows taken over whats left. Ufortunately, it seems a group of homeless folk have moved in at the beach on the East side. next to the river. Feces, trash, and a disgusting smell permeates the area. I have reported the camp to the Sheriff's.
Wohler is still viable, depending on the day, but summer is here, so expect a lot of weekend canoe traffic, and choose your spot accordingly!
I am also exploring some area's much further upstream, looks promising.

You can always go to not-too-far away Harbin Hot Springs, if the atmosphere is to your liking. No tell-tale people to do deal with. I don't know what makes Sonoma county so uptight.
Neighboring Marin county is, in part, fine with nudity. But, each county has the right to have their own laws. I know, move to Marin county, if one does not mind the fog there. Do google's street view of State Route 1, near the beach in Marin county. You can barely see the fogged-in road. Sorry about the use of the word, "Barely." I had a 12 hour day, today, and things slip through like that.

Happy Spring to all!
Got a chance to groom Oddfellows Bridge and Wohler before this late rain. Oddfellows downstream is almost completely grown over, and the beach is washed away, but the small upstream section is good, very sandy, Lets hope thespots I groomed don't get overgrown before summer. It will still be a good place to nude until the bridge is in. Wohler is in it's best shape I have seen in years, the water district have cut a trail and done some clearing for the spring classes, and not too many canoes yet either. I am sure that will all change as this rain passes and we get into summer.
I do hope to get further upstream and explore this years changes.>> Redbeard |

Hope you are right Redbeard! And I hope that there will still be some good places to be naked. If I find them I'll post here, hope you do the same.

Well, it is good to have the rains back, and the river is high. lets hope it gives it a good scrubbing, and leaves many sandy spots to bare in. |

I went to Wohler last weekend, 7/10. the water is low , but the downstream beach is ok, I pruned and cleaned up a bit. There are more , gravel beaches this year upstream, between river park and Wohler, bring something soft to lay on. |

I went to Sunset Beach last week, it is now a very nice County Park with a parking lot, picnic tables and a portable toilet. I went down to the beach, walked a bit down river from Sunset. Didn't see any nudists, I have a feeling that now that the parking lot and signs are there, it will become more used than ever before. It appears Sunset Beach, at best, will be clothing optional only in the cooler spring months, once June comes around too many clothed visitors and families. Is there anywhere else in Sonoma County where one can sunbath, swim nude ? This county is like Utah !! Kinda pathetic if you ask me. |

Yes, That is correct, that is private property, please respect it.
The beach I endorse is to the west, downstream side.It has been eroding and shifting, we will seewhat comes of it after this winters changes. - RB |

Last weekend I went to Oddfellows Bridge to check the above mentioned spot, unfortunately the trail is now posted with a no trespassing sign. One less nude spot on the river. |

Thought that I was the last nudist left on the Russian River, glad to see there are several more.
I'm not sure which beach that rrbeach is taking about, is it the one upstream from the Oddfellows Bridge on the River Road side of the river. |

Wohler update/08
Well, I got a chance to get out to Wohler Bridge. It seems the water district has cut a trail connecting the main beach, nearest the pumptower, to the beach at the meadow. This area is used during the week by students, until June. But the weekends are great for sunning, and nude hikes.
There is also a new beach forming at the meadow, just upstream. Worth checking out, it gets good sun throughout the day, yet is very secluded.
The downside is that while the winter always changes things,the pumphouse beach has been hacked and ravaged by fishermen, much of the willows have been cut, removing much of the natural cover from kayakers. Also, they have made firepits in the best part of the beach., scattering burnt wood, and garbage.
It baffles me that the same people who deem nudity offensive, also have no respect for the river, or nature.
I plan on cleaning this beach up, after the end of may, and the parking lot closes. Any one want to help?
